Most of the days I go to Save-a-Lot for groceries are pretty pleasant. The staff are kind and lovely people who are very efficient at making the line go as fast as they can, so I appreciate what they do. I don't particularly mind bagging my own groceries, so no problems there. The produce varies from being a bargain to being a bit on the pricier side sometimes though, so it's a gamble whether you're saving money on some trips. Overall, if you're looking to pick up something quick at a convenient, walkable location, it's an alright place to go.

Not only do you have to provide your own bags AND bag your own groceries, you ALSO have to check your bags you’re going to use with the RUDE SECURITY GUARD at the door!Even though it’s the neighborhood grocery store and convenient, I’ll shop where your not tested like a criminal.I think it’s called profiling!RIDICULOUS!!!

The store is very clean. I have rarely found the beef meats that are on sale. The cashier was very courteous. The security guard was too busy on his phone to greet customers.

Smelly, The cashiers and manager ( female ) are representative of the neighborhood. The conversations are foul and leaves a lot left to be desired.Whatever the hours, the manager closes the doors 20 minutes before so they can. get out by the closing time. listed on website. Just Ghetto

Having to check your bag at a grocery store is a new one. If being profiled sounds like fun, you should def shop here.

Rotting produce, fruit fly infestations and an aggressive bag check policy makes the trek here hellish and dilemmna-producing. Should I go even though I know security is going to follow me after they try to tackle me for carrying a book bag in a city where plastic bags are banned? Even though the store is scheduled to close at 9 will it be open when I arrive at 8:30 for bananas? Will I have to swat fruit flies to get to the bananas, onions, tomatoes or potatoes? Does Save A-Lot profit from poverty and misery by adding tobacco and lottery shops inside the locations? Will the “machine” work? Will the cashier ever say hello? Will there never not be a line? How many other people got sick after buying produce from here? Is my apple rotting though I just bought the bag? Why is the peanut butter bland? How long has this spinach been sitting here. If i did not live in a food desert I would have been stopped patronizing this grocery store. All i can positively say is thanks for being open throughout the peak of the pandemic. The best thing about this Save A Lot was the Amazon lockers and cheap eggs- both long gone. This location is a lifeline to students, seniors and families but that line appears increasingly mangled.

My current favorite place to shop is next to my house and it is one of the cheapest places, but if it is possible to provide halal chicken next time, I would buy a quantity of halal ready-made meat, but we need chicken now.

Their posted hours mean nothing.I got there at 8:45pm wanting to get some citrus. (They close at 9pm). Security would not let anyone in. There were 3 people wanting to get a few items. It seems as if they might need new management that does not shut down early.Changing staff is never a bad idea if it keeps a business properly running. They're lucky that they are the only larger-ish grocery store in Bolton Hill.

I have made two trips here on the way home from work. Both were OK. Some prices are really high.... like $6 for a can of spam. But others are really good. (Like $5 for a 5 lb. pork roast, and a package of restaurant quality strip steaks for $15) Some of the checkers are really sweet, some are really rude. Overall, it isn't a bad store, but not great either.Update: I have found that if you pay attention to the ads online, you can find some really good deals.

This is our neighborhood market. Most days it has what we need, especially the essentials. It is well lit and maintained and the staff is friendly. I often have nice conversations with other shoppers in the store or on the check out line.

During this time of Covid -19 it's often disconcerting to shop there at times, due to the staff and management not enforcing adherence to PPE guidelines. Many customers have masks either not covering their noses or simply have masks under their chins. Even some of the security guards do this too. If you can get the security guards to stop browsing their smart phones or flirting with female cashiers, how about having them enforce the PPE guidelines, if staff are uncomfortable doing it, after all it is a health security issue

Save a lot has a pretty good variety of food and it’s nice to have a grocery store close to MICA. the parking lot is usually a little sketchy so I usually go with my roommates and a few other people but the cashiers and security guards are always nice.

Any grocery store where you have to check your shopping bag with a security guard at the front is a red flag, I refuse to go here. Go anywhere else but here.. and to add there’s always sketchy drug addicts and homeless people always outside the store.

This Store was one of the best stores when it came to pricing. Was!!!!!! The key word. The GREED BUG, Has everyone squeezing whatever extra change they can get. The mix 5 deal. Tell me why it says 5 on the bag. But now are 6.99 a bag. Their food prices tripled. But they like most have gotten away with price gauging. Us the residents. Can barely keep food in the house. Can't afford it. Who had 29.99 for 1 bag of wings? Sad. Greed has destroyed everything..

Save a lot is one of the few grocery stores in the area that will have most of what you need. Average sized store , with average quality food. Not too many name brands here but they certainly exist . Like there's no Ballpark Hotdogs, only Nathan's or some other off brand . Usually only 1 register open but it's not often packed . Staff is local as well but extremely friendly and always willing to help .

I had got some chicken salad from there and it's way outdated you need to go around and update your food to make sure everything is all right

Hot and ghetto mess of a store...first they had raw fish laying out on top of the packaging, and the lazy girl at register 1 ringing up her homegirl and tell me she's closed and sent me to register 4, then let someone else get rung up after I left.

I just went to the store this morning and was approached by a rude Security guard asking me to leave my bag in the front. I did not feel comfortable with the way I was spoken to, so I decided to speak with the manager , after he had me wait , I called him, I was actually standing right outside and after many rings someone finally answered I was put on hold and when he finally answered I was appalled by the outright and blatant gender discrimination he said was the store policy. He explained that Women carry purses so they are not asked to check their bags, however, I saw many ladies with bags and their purses. I tend to keep my personal things in my bookbag, so why must I empty it and put money, etc in my pockets?? To add insult to injury I guess nobody ever put stuff in their purses before, right??

Great neighborhood store for basics. I feel lucky to live around the corner. Seriously the best prices on pantry staples I have ever seen. Has a great little Hispanic food section too.Like all discount markets, selection of non-basic items changes, so if you see something you want, buy it. It might not be there tomorrow.

* Edit/update 1/9/22: I would also add - they need to clean the shopping carts they put your food in. A lot of dirt on themWhen I went here before it was good & the prices are good but they had security take away my backpack today, and wouldn't let me put my groceries in my reusable shopping bag that i brought with me. I don't know if it was profiling or they decided to start doing this to everyone but I don't appreciate being treated like a criminal while I'm shopping. The store would probably make more money if they paid multiple cashiers to work at the same time instead of paying someone to bother customers.

I just moved into the neighborhood and stopped in only to see what their selection was like. I started browsing, but was asked to check my bag. That was when I immediately left, and I haven't been able to convince myself to go back. I've decided to pay for delivery from Whole Foods instead.

Horrible customer service , they never have anything on the shelves , the cashiers would rather talk on the phone and brush you off and make u wait until they finish talking. I rather hunt for my own meats and grown my own veggies than step foot in this disgraceful dirty joke of a grocery store. They need a complete overhaul fire everyone especially the cashiers and the mall cop.

Wish there is a half staff. This place is terrible. It needs to close down immediately. The cashiers are ghetto and rude. There is never nutrious food on the shelves. Only chips, soda, cookies and frozen food. They switch prices from shelves to check out. Produce is wilted. Check out kines are super long. I only go this save a lot when I desperately forget something I have forgotten topic up somewhere else. SHUT IT DOWN IMMEDIATELY!!!

Tl;dr NEVER SHOP HERE. Save-a-Lot is my neighborhood grocery store and I've been shopping there for six years. Tonight, when I entered the store, the security guard yelled at me to leave my empty reuseable bags on a shelf by the exit. Other people were shopping in the store carrying their reusable bags, but they were not yelled at for it like I was. The security guard continued to yell and scream at me when I asked why I was the only one who had to follow the "rule". He got up in my face and violently threatened me when I pointed out that the security guard is rarely watching the bag shelf and that I was concerned about my bags being stolen. The security guard then went after a young couple that had bags - he forced them to take everything out of their bags and put it in a cart before they could get in the checkout line. This kind of inhuman treatment of regular paying customers is unbelievable. What are the new owners of this store thinking??? I am shocked that the owners of this store choose to run their business like thugs, having their employees literally scream and yell and threaten paying customers with violence. I have the final several minutes of this disgusting scene on video. I would appreciate a prompt apology from the store owner and an immediate correction of this dehumanizing policy that will likely end in a bloodbath one day soon.
