A really exceptional local spot with delicious and fresh food. I ordered the Basil Kush pizza which did not disappoint! It was cheesy and full of flavor with a touch of prosciutto. It was one of the better pizzas I’ve had. I also sampled the Halibut and it was incredible. Really truly spectacular! Fresh halibut lightly grilled with ginger and full of flavor. I also enjoyed a lovely Pear Martini that was well balanced and truly tasted of pears. All in all, we had a lovely dinner here and it seems like they rotate items on and off the menu while offering daily specials. Compliments to the house and chef!

Tasty good food by the water. We had oysters, mussels and summer salad with grilled halibut. Small, cost place for a nice meal. Service was great. We paid $4 to park at the lot on the corner; there are few spaces on are not restricted/reserved.Parking: Difficult to find free parking, but there are a few paid lots in the area. I paid $4 to park for 4 hours at the corner.

We sat on the deck overlooking their courtyard-like garden, which was tucked in by teeming foliage and expansive awnings blocking the setting sun. The air was filled with the aroma of ocean spray and the intoxicating wood-fired scents coming from the kitchen. When we sat down at the table, a cold, olive green carafe of water was waiting for us. Salt and pepper sat in oyster shells along the inner edge of the table, waiting to be served with the miniature wooden spoon accompanying them. My husband ordered a bourbon-based cocktail, a Paper Plane, while I ordered a tequila-based smoky cocktail, the Mezcal Mule. The Paper Plane came served with the tiniest paper plane clipped to the glass with the tiniest clothespin. My Mezcal Mule, topped with chili powder and mixed with ginger beer, cucumber, and lime, tasted smoky and spicy met with cool and refreshing. For appetizers we ordered the crab artichoke dip and oysters. The crab was so fresh, and as a native Mainer who is quite seasoned in finding shells in a crab dishes especially, I am delighted to say there were none. It was also an unexpectedly enormous portion, with nearly an entire sliced baguette for dipping, which made my decision to order a salad easier. My husband enjoyed his oysters (I do not like them in general so I didn’t eat any) and helped to finish the crab and artichoke dip when he was done. For our entrees, I ordered the Summer Salad with grilled chicken, and my husband ordered the Seapig pizza. The summer salad came out with pickled blueberries, roasted almond slices, and small wedges of Brie cheese, topped with grilled chicken. It was the perfect complement to the aforementioned rich appetizer. The Seapig pizza— a wood-oven fired scallop and bacon pizza—was truly the most succulent pizza I’ve ever had. And THE CRUST. Oh my. It was so fresh and tender paired with just the right amount of crisp. The entire experience was truly overwhelming in the best way.Kudos to the chef(s) and bartender(s), along with the very busy front of the house staff for accommodating their guests in a timely and efficient manner, even though they had a full house. (Note: we were also 10 minutes late to our reservation, which I feared may have caused us to lose our spot.)In the past few years, many restaurants have lost their ambition to service customers with thoughtfulness and pride. It was so refreshing to have the experience of knowing the chefs cared about the products they turned out, and having a waitstaff that was diligent in ensuring the wholesomeness of their diners’ experiences. While I can’t speak more highly of the food and drinks we were served, having a devoted staff and dining in the most beautiful atmosphere is what made our time at Fin & Fern stand out. Thank you for giving us this experience!!

Amazing location and absolutely delicious food! We enjoyed multiple meals here with friends while vacationing in coastal Maine. The menu is seasonal and you can’t go wrong with any choice, but I highly recommend getting a pizza and another appetizer or two and split with your table in addition to your individual entree. Don’t forget a whoopie pie to go!

We went there as a birthday dinner for my wife. The staff were so supportive and helpfull, the food was amazing, fast and the presentation was great. The staff even brought out a blueberry whoopie pie with a lit candle on it and sang happy birthday. We had local wine and cider which we ended up trading with each other. All together the experince was wonderful and would definently highly recommend this dinning establishment!

The Fin & Fern is a must-visit if you are in Stonington. The food is fresh and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my scallops entree and Blueberry Mojito. Hubby's pasta was homemade and delicious. The atmosphere is fun - we sat outside at a table next to a stone wall upon where we could sit and sip our drinks. When it got cool, the staff brought out blankets for those who wanted them. All around, it was a fine experience. We'll definitely come back when we are in Stonington again!

Delicious fresh oysters alone are worth the stop when on Seabreeze Ave arriving back from Isle au Haut or, in my case, the Puffin Tour. Great looking deserts, good wine selection and a nice garden. I had the special which was spicy linguine w lobster and shrimp, and enjoyed it. Currently open Thursday-Sunday 6-8pm for takeout and dine-in; a bit of a rush formed a queue so be sure to bring your masks for when in common areas to help the staff and keep them safe.

Food was good, some dishes better then others. Definitely recommend mussels and the shrimp and lobster fettuccine. Seafood was very fresh. Only downside was the long wait time to get our food. Took about 1.5 hours. Thankfully the waitress noticed how long it took and offered free dessert.... although id recommend not getting dessert, not very good.

When planning a vacation to Deer Isle/Stonington, The Island Agency highly recommends a visit to Fin & Fern Restaurant! Fin & Fern offers indoor and outdoor dining. The ambience is incredibly warm & welcoming. Their staff is very friendly and knowledgable to the area. Enjoy fresh flowers on the table and a beautiful water view looking out towards the working harbor. Maine Oysters & Lobster is a must! If seafood is not a favorite, try their delicious homemade pasta or ribeye! The dessert case is hard to miss, looking you right in the eye through dinner. Save room for a homemade tarte, creme brûlée, or pie. Make a reservation early to ensure your seating preference is met. The manager & staff look forward to accommodating you here! Fin & Fern is a year round favorite! Photo includes the lazy lobster dinner.

I made a reservation thru google. When we arrived we were told that we had an outdoor table. It was 55 degrees 50 degrees when we got back to the car. There was no protection from the wind. There were no space heaters. They did offer lap blankets, which was not enough. The wine was mee. I got a glass of the house pinot noir, it tasted like the bottle was a couple days old. My wife had tea. There was no individual hot water kettle for my wifes tea beg. I dont think tea is popular in Maine. The lobster was perfectly done. My wifes noodles were sticky and not el dente. The crab cakes were mushy. I understand about covid. No won can get any help and restrictions. So thats why i didnt give 3 stars. It probably was a 3 star experience. My wife was cold. If you go try to make your reservation for inside.

A lovely spot. Beautiful garden and quaint indoor space. A nice menu. I never criticize service because everyone is understaffed and overbooked. No different here and everyone was doing their best. The reason I am bothering to leave a review is that the meal was very disappointing. I read about the chef and checked out the menu and was looking forward to dinner. Unfortunately everything was over-seasoned, over-dressed and over cooked. Again, I get it that in the summer, especially, kitchens get slammed, but with beautiful fresh greens, there’s no need to drown it in dressing. Overcooking fish is not something you expect from a restaurant of this caliber. And the sauces - so heavy-handed. Overall, a negative experience except for how hard the staff were trying and the pretty gardens.

We ate at Fin and Fern’s outdoor lunch spot, Sandbar. Pleasant view away from what little tourist foot traffic there is on a Thursday afternoon. I had the lobster roll cold with a little mayonnaise. We’ll, it was more like mayonnaise soup with lobster, seriously. I am no stranger to what a lobster should be. I’m from Gloucester, Ma, and my husband is a fisherman. Quite a disappointment.

Excellent food and for the island reasonably priced. Friendly attentive staff. Got there an hour early but they still found us a table. Great way to top off the puffin boat tour offered just down the street.Parking: Limited spaces. We parked downtown and walked to the restaurant.

Dinner was a disappointment. I ordered seafood Alfredo with lobster, scallops and shrimp. The pieces of lobster were fresh and tasty. The scallops had no flavor; I suspect they had been stored in the fridge too long. The shrimp were large, and no better than I can get in my local supermarket in Ohio. I was hoping for local Maine shrimp, which are small and usually fresh. The sauce was not what Alfredo should be, with parmesan and cream. It was brown and just OK. In an area where local seafood is readily available, this dinner was subpar. The dining area is small and the tables are crowded together. The service was friendly and competent.

We’re traveling up the coast of Maine and this was the absolute best meal we’ve had the entire trip. We got the Arugula Salad, Oysters, Seafood Alfredo, and Stonington Lazy Lobster. Each dish was absurdly delicious. Staff was incredibly kind and helpful.Note: Google says they’re closed on Wednesdays, but they’re open!! They’ve experienced issues with Google, so it’s also best that you call the restaurant to make a reservation rather than try to make one via Google.

Had an opportunity to dine in here during our Maine road trip. It's conveniently located right across the Isle au Haut boat services so we went there right after we got off the ferry. Didn't have a reservation and we're seated at the bar. The place was packed so a reservation would be good. Our bartender was fairly busy but she took good care of us. They had all types of alcoholic drinks; we had the rose and local bluet blueberry wine which we really liked! The warm beet salad is a must try - super delicious. We're quite satisfied with our main dishes as well: the grilled salmon (it was one of the specials) and halibut. I have to say though, although both salmon and halibut were supposed to be served with mashed potato and vegatables, the vegatables were almost untraceable amount. As a dessert we had the whoopie pie with blueberry lemon cream. It's quite big, definitely sharable. The cream was delicious but the cake part was dry, didn't taste like fresh. The best part of our experience was to meet excellent local people at the bar, have a great chat with them which was a fantastic way to end our trip.

Great pizza, baked halibut, and salad! All very delicious. The service was great. The seating outside was a little uncomfortable since we were on a slanted hill with wobbly chairs but the food was worth it. Highly recommend if you get comfortable seats.

We arrived to Stonington in the evening during off season so we were quickly learning that most places close early. We called Fin & Fern to check if it would even be able to seat us for dinner & they gladly set us up at the bar on the second floor. The restaurant is in a cozy home with lots of outside seating in their garden. The menu has a great variety of options & we were pleasantly surprised by just how delicious everything was! I had the local oysters & local halibut & it was just wonderful.I absolutely would recommend eating here…just try to get a reservation & not rely on them having space.

Had made a reservation but our plans changed and we arrived at opening on a Saturday evening and asked if it possible to wait for a seat and cancel our reservation. They took us right in and seated us on the covered deck. Staff was very friendly and our meals where great! Recommend the crab cakes and the fresh made raviolis were also delicious. Only tough spot is parking is a bit challenging but worth it. Make a reservation and go try this great restaurant.

Best seafood meal we've eaten in years, great staff, fair prices and comfortable atmosphere! We had the seafood pie and halibut and both were incredible, the halibut was the best I've ever had (and I live in Maine).

Ok, I'm torn about this one - "ok" or "good"? The chef seems to be somewhat amateurish. Here's why: the short ribs were under seasoned. The homemade pasta was drowned in a bolognaise that tasted like someone had spilled a jar of oregano into it. But... the crab cakes were delicious. The seafood pasta was great. Key lime pie was wonderful! All their desserts were great. It's a nice business and I hope they keep going, but they do need to work on consistency.
