We were lucky to snatch a stay at Acadia Cottages during the peak season at Acadia National Park. A bit of a drive to the park itself, but very close to the Bass Harbor lighthouse, Wonderland trail and Ship Harbor trail (our favorite). Also a short walk to some good restaurants. The owner, Laurie, was the sweetest, and we got to meet the deer on our first day! The cottages have almost everything you may need, including all types of cookware - the only thing I would add is just a bottle of cooking oil, but totally understand why it may not be the preference. You can also borrow a charcoal grill from the office (charcoal itself not provided), and there is a bonfire in the evenings. Laurie shared some great recommendations during check-in, and there was a binder in the cottage with some helpful details about the restaurants and hiking trails in the area. Overall, we had a great stay - quiet, cozy and peaceful. We would absolutely recommend staying here when coming to Acadia.

We had a wonderful stay at Acadia Cottages! Laurie and John were lovely, and everything exceeded expectations. The location was also great, close to so many trails and nature, which was much quieter and a nice relief from the hecticness of Bar Harbor. Also, coming from the city, it was really nice to see deer on the property and actually be able to see the stars at night. We would definitely pick Acadia Cottages again, the next time we visited Maine (which we have to do!).Nearby activities: Close to many hiking trails and nature activitiesWalkability: In walking distance to many restaurants and shops!

We just returned from a great stay at Acadia Cottages. It is in a great location on the quiet side of the island with easy access to the town of Southwest Harbor and Acadia National Park. It's walking distance to town yet feels quiet and secluded. Laurie and John were fantastic hosts and our cottage was immaculate, quiet and comfortable. We can't wait to visit again!

What a lovely place to stay! We thoroughly enjoyed our week there. The cottage was quite new, very well equipped (full kitchen, kitchenware, etc.) and with a super comfy bed. The owners were very friendly, too, and Southwest Harbor is a very charming place to stay, within 30 minutes of anywhere on Mt Desert Island.Walkability: Easy walk to shops and restaurants in SW Harbor

Staying here was perfect! The owners were incredibly helpful and our experience was smooth sailing. Our cottage was clean and had everything we needed. Bar harbor was not too far of a drive and it was great being close to other less popular parts of Acadia. Southwest harbor was a nice break from the crowds in Bar Harbor but still had everything you needed (restaurants, grocery store, gas, shopping). If I ever get the chance to return I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely cottages in a forested setting right in Southwest Harbor. We had the last 2 cottages towards the back of the property, which were extremely quiet and peaceful. We could hear the tree frogs vocalize at night. Our teenage daughter loved having her own cabin next to ours… cabins were super clean and efficient with a little kitchenette right there. The warm and friendly hosts made a campfire every night, which made for lovely visits with the other guests. We hope to be back!Nearby activities: We were able to walk across the street down to Sail Acadia for a cruise on a historic wooden sailboat around the islands… highly recommended.

Our 2nd stay with John and Laurie. As always the cabin was spotless and well organized. The hosts were over the top friendly, accommodating and just truly special people who instantly become friends. They constantly go over and above to make your stay a great experience. We are blessed to spend time with these kind and caring couple.

My wife and I had a great time! The cottage and grounds were well kept, quiet and close to everything we wanted to do. The owners, John and Laurie, were amazing! They were so friendly and helpful. We stayed in cottage 1, which was perfect for just my wife and I. It had everything we needed. Our stay was 1 week and we were able to stay in some nights and cook instead of going out to eat every night. We had easy access to everything, a short walk into town and a quick drive to Acadia National Park. We were able to start our day as early or as late as we wanted. John and Laurie have a fire pit and sitting area as well which is very peaceful. Deer were frequently walking around and it was just nice and cozy overall. We will definitely be booking here again on our next trip back to Acadia!

Acadia Cottages was better than we could have imagined! Within walking distance of Southwest Harbor downtown and plenty of amazing restaurants that we didn’t expect to be SO good! Cabin 15 was so cozy! It was well equipped with everything we could have needed for easy vacation dinners and homemade breakfasts. Plenty of hooks and drawers to stash items away. Plenty of room to spread out, and very very clean. The king size bed was SO comfortable, I’ve never slept so well on vacation! Owners John & Laurie are amazing hosts - they’re so welcoming and a pleasure to chat with if you catch them around the grounds. We especially enjoyed gathering around the fire John builds each nice weather evening for whomever would like to start it, and chatting with other guests. We’re already dreaming about our next stay at Acadia Cottages. Do not hesitate to book your stay here on the quiet side of MDI!

Everything you could want or need, and clean clean clean! The cottages are in a wonderful location. You can walk to town easily.Every day we saw deer and their fawns wandering through the grounds. This is our second year staying here. A tradition has started. We'll be back!Highly recommend!

What a wonderful place to stay on MDI. John and Laurie were truly wonderful hosts. It’s clear they’ve put a lot of love and effort into the property and that they love hosting their guests. The studio cottage was perfect for our honeymoon in Acadia, with a kitchenette and full bathroom. The bed was comfortable and I kid you not I want to know where they got the sheets so I can buy some for my house! The property and cottage were immaculately clean, and we loved the environmentally friendly efforts included. Located on the quiet side of the island, Acadia Cottages was within walking distance to all necessary amenities, but close enough to the park that we spent everyday hiking and biking. Not to mention, there are some hidden gems to see on the quiet side that we found while exploring. Next time we are on MDI, we will definitely be back to stay here!

We had a great cottage and owners are wonderful. They want the guests to enjoy their trip. Linens are very nice - super nice towels. WIFI was very good in Cottage 9. We have Consumer Cellular cell phones. Unfortunately, we had no cell service. We were able to go 7 miles down the road and use our phones. Coverage for us was off and on all over the Acadia area for us. Others might have better service. Lack of cell service has nothing to do with Acadia Cottages. We would definitely stay here again. This was actually our second time. Lots of kayaking, hiking, and biking in this area. Some locations have small parking lots so go early for your activity.

Just fantastic! Clean & cozy, great location, friendly owners....did we mention clean and cozy?We knew we would be out and about all day at Acadia NP and just needed something clean, cozy, and reliable to welcome us back at the end of the day. We weren’t looking for anything fancy. This place did not disappoint! The bed was firm and comfortable. The area lends itself to privacy. A welcome packet in your room explaining all the environmentally friendly products they use or have left for you to enjoy.Again, nothing is high end—but they definitely take pride in cleanliness and making sure you have all the necessities.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here! One week, and it was the best week! Acadia Cottages is hospitable, cozy, very clean, and close to all the sights to see, without the hustle and bustle of a city. We hope to go back!

We had a wonderful stay at Acadia Cottages. Laurie and John were very welcoming when we arrived and were proactively helpful in ensuring that we had all that we needed to make our brief stay near Acadia as smooth as possible. The cottages are simple, clean, and have all the necessities. They're walking distance to a few good restaurants and only a few minutes drive from some great hikes on the "quiet side" of Acadia while still being close enough for easy access to the more touristed side and Bar Harbor. We only wish we could have stayed longer!

These cottages were outstanding! Tucked away, just off the main road in Southwest Harbor, they're quiet, relaxing atmosphere was the perfect getaway. We were greeted with fresh cookies on the table and a quaint, clean cottage. On certain nights there even have campfires! They're 1/2 hour drive isn't too bad to get to Bar Harbor and there's plenty to do and see that's even closer than that. If you're early or late in the season, be prepared to have to drive to Bar Harbor if you want to eat out- we found a few restaurants Southwest Harbor that were not open when though they said they would be. Luckily these great cottages have their own small kitchens! I would definitely recommend staying here!

My wife and I rented a small cottage at Acadia Cottages for 10 nights from late May into early June. We had a wonderful time! First, we liked being in Southwest Harbor, ME. It was quiet compared to the northeast side and Bar Harbor. This is what we wanted. The cottages are spaced apart. All cottages have decks - we used ours for reading. There are lots of trees so little direct sunlight except in the common area. The owners and our hosts, John and Laurie, were friendly and quite accomodating. In the evenings around 7pm, John had a fire going in the common area where guests could sit in lounge chairs, relax, and visit. Our cottage (#9) was a one-room with a bathroom. Even though small, it was very well organized. The small kitchen had a refrigerator, sink, and 2-burner flat top grill. No stove. No microwave. It wasn't a problem with us. All utensils, pots, pans, and coffee maker were there to use. There are some larger 2 room cottages that are available. All cottages have cable TV and wifi. There is an IGA store about 1.5 miles down the road to get groceries. There is a laundromat next to the IGA store. We highly recommend Acadea Cottages.

These cabins were adorable and just wat we needed on our long vacation. The owners were very helpful on local things to do and very dedicated to the environment. We had just a two person cabin and it was the cutest most comfortable place we stayed. I highly recommend the quiet side of the island and Acadia Cottages.

Friendly hosts and a nice quiet place to stay. The cabin was clean and cozy, nested in a little piece of the woods. Even though there are several cabins on the property, it still felt very private and peaceful. Close to the small town and to Acadia National Park. We will stay here again for sure.

Great location! Well equipped and a little quirky. Shower was almost useless. Remember phone booths. They are big compared to the shower. WiFi was very slow. Floor slopes. Has a VHS tape player. But away from Bar Harbor Zoo. I could get to top of Cadillac Mountain in 30 minutes to see sunrise or sunset. (Hint. If you are going for sunrise, plan on getting there 30 minutes early if you want to park!)

A hidden gem on the quiet side of MDI. The cabins are incredibly well-thought out - there’s a hook everywhere you can think it needs to be! Immaculate, & nice firm beds with a peaceful view in the woods. The owners are there if you need them but in no way hover, & they are so lovely. It really is a haven.

This place is immaculate. They treat you like family and the cabins are spotless. There is everything you need and more. The community firepit is great because my littles wanted a quick smore then off to bed a few nights. It is near a small town but secluded in a wooded piece of heaven. It was very quiet and peaceful. If you are trying to decide whether to book this place, here is your sign. You won't regret it. I was sad to leave to come home. The showers have plenty of room to shower in. Thank you for a wonderful stay. I would suggest a small latch towardd the top of the cabin doors for families with littles that can get out of the cabin even if its locked.
