Stayed for two nights at the apt style rooms with a back deck. We stayed at this property four years ago and it was in much, much better shape. Something must've happened to management to make it into its current condition. The positive is the staff was great, attentive and accommodating. The canoes and kayaks were well maintained. Breakfast was also good. They fixed the mini-golf and bikes were in good working condition. Now, for the bad things. I looks like the rooms were half-way complete and they had to make it look usable for the 2023 summer season. The room we had contain unfished doors and were unevenly mounted that is would not close correctly. Windows shades were not installed correctly or not working. Drywalls were left unfinished and some places had water damage because of it. Simply, it was just not a fit-and-polished room for the price point and "resort" type of place.

Pleasantly surprised with our 4 night stay. Staff were amazing. Room very clean though did have an odor. Room 224 has a great view but needs drapes rehung so you can see it from bed. Mini golf in great shape. Hot tub broken but pool was fun - though a bit chilly. Recommend a few more shade umbrellas. Breakfast was great and offerred a few hot items with usual cold items. Nice patio to eat on if didn’t want to eat indoors. Tennis courts need tennis balls. Kayaks and paddle boards in great shape and used by lots of guests. while not fancy it was much nicer than prior reviews led me to believe and we wouldn’t hesitate to return. Didn’t offer housekeeping on 4 night stay but did replenish anything we asked for.

This place is extremely dated. The room had a musty smell and looked like it needed to be renovated. There was no central air and the air conditioning unit and wall heater were both very noisy. The heater made the room too hot and we had to use both at the same time to get to the desired temperature. The sink did not get hot water unless we used the shower first. The Internet connection was too slow for the smart TV to load the menu. But somehow we managed to get Netflix to work.Only good thing about this place is the location and other amenities like kayaks, tennis courts etc.Overall I found this place overpriced for the quality of room that was provided.

Stayed here for two nights. Our room was a bit dated, and walls were thin. We could here our neighbors tv and talking till very late at night. I did like how the beds were very comfortable and the view was amazing. We stayed in room 225. The entry way could have used some TLC and a quick vacuum. The place reminded me of an old school kids summer camp, where you had water sports ( kayak, canoes, paddle boards) a nice little pool and mini golf. We even played a few rounds of ping pong. Guests enjoyed fire pits, bikes, and tennis. The complimentary breakfast was great! Staff were super friendly as well. Not sure if I’d return, because it’s a little more rustic then I would like for a vacation.

My Bride and I were celebrating our 36th anniversary by traveling around the New England area. Stumbled upon this place In which to lay our head. What such a beautiful and wonderful place. Awaken by the sound of waves lapping up on the shore. To see crabbers heading out and local birds whistling. They had a splendid breakfast in their dining hall and then toured their grounds. Dreaming how cool it would be to have all our grandkids here enjoying all this. Rooms were clean and beds very comfortable. I highly recommend this place from a Texan!

My husband and I just spent the weekend at Ocean Gate for our first wedding anniversary and we LOVED it. The location can not be beat, just a short drive into Boothbay Harbor. And Southport itself is quintessential Maine-- the view from our cabin was unmatched. It honestly blew us away.I emailed the resort ahead of time about our anniversary and they left flowers & a card in our cabin for our arrival. It made the stay even more special! We stayed in the one bedroom cottage. It was incredibly clean, had everything we needed, and the porch with the view...WOW.I read previous reviews noting poor cleanliness/dated rooms. I assume that people who are complaining about the cleanliness and amenities are not familiar with a camp type of resort. This was not our experience at all, we had everything we needed and more! So if you book here, I highly recommend the one bedroom cabin. It was a great price as well-- I'm not sure where else you'll be able to find this deal. The breakfast bar was yummy and the staff were very friendly. We enjoyed playing tennis, going out on the kayaks and relaxing by the pool. Overall, a great stay. We will absolutely be back!

We were pleasantly surprised by our room and the resort! We had a wonderful view of the ocean the only Thing that was disappointing was the hot tub was out of service and we were looking forward to that probably the most. The breakfast shocked us! It was absolutely phenomenal! There were so many choices and everything tasted delicious!

Good news: it served our needs and the amenities were nice.Bad news: some aspects were a little shocking. Rooms were dingy, bed uncomfortable, bathroom small. What could have helped was at least coming back to a clean room\housekeeping.With this said, the amenities like the pool, mini golf, fire pits, and dock helped make up for some things. The breakfast was hot but basic. Glad they had name brand yogurt. Unfortunately we found ourselves waking up sore, tired, and feeling a bit sick. Didn't feel worth what we paid.

Just returned from a 3 night stay. We stayed in the 1 bedroom 2 bath waterfront suite. It smelled musty and bathrooms covered in mold. The pull out bed was filthy. It's upsetting because the pictures are deceiving and I was taking my mom on her first trip to Maine. Although the grounds were nice with a lot of amenities, the rooms, at least ours, could use a major upgrade. The size was nice and it could be so nice. Just very disappointed. The mold is definitely a heath issue and I wish I had taken my family from there when we arrived. We won't be going back.

I would highly recommend you don't leave anything in your room. Check and double check because the people who clean the room don't turn stuff into lost and found. I left my phone charger plugged into the wall. I realized I left it on my drive home. Called after the room was cleaned and nothing was turned in. Called again to double check the next week. It was obvious house cleaning kept it.The place is falling apart and needs renovations. Dirty towel was left hanging over the shower curtain when we got there. For the cost the accomodations should be better.Rooms: Need updating

Low key resort with lots of activities. Breakfast included but you're on your own to find lunch and dinner. There's no other food available here. Rooms and facilities are a little dated and need an upgrade--they will be getting a renovation at the end of the 2023 season. Great location--a short drive to Boothbay Harbor which has lots of restaurants and shopping.

The rooms were nice, and the beds were comfortable. The views were outstanding. Breakfast was the same every morning, and was fine, but the eggs were powdered, so that was a strike for me. Location was excellent, 10 minutes from Boothbay harbor on good roads. Resorts like this were big in the 60s and 70s, but truly, all the amenities were in great condition, and easy to access and use. The staff were another highlight. Super nice, helpful, and easy going. For us, this place was perfect and I would certainly stay there again!

I think of this place as a way of camping without the work. I really enjoyed it. Nestled amongst the tree, tucked in beside the harbor, it was spacious and relaxing and a really nice way to end vacation. Town was a quick drive away - it was very, very busy in town in August. I never heard of this place before happening onto it on the internet, but it seems that everyone else knows it! Parking can be hard to find but nice town to walk around (but pricey). The picture included is from the balcony of my room. Really enjoyed sitting out there in the evening. Perfect perfect. The vibe of the resort is very chill. All the amenities are available and ready for use whenever you decide to partake. Everyone -staff and visitors- were great. The heated pool didn't necessarily feel heated, but felt good when the sun was out.A lot of variety for breakfast foods. Blueberry pancakes every morning - no complaints here - loved it 🥞 Great family spot. I just went with my partner and we both really loved the serenity of the location.

This place is definitely a place I would recommend to all my family and friends. The rooms were clean, and the decor was inviting. There was a balcony from our room overlooking the water. Every morning there was an enjoyable all you can eat breakfast buffet. The staff at the resort was very friendly and accommodating. Location was close to all the little shops and restaurants. I will defiantly stay here again.

My girlfriend and I feel like victims of false advertising, as the online photos and descriptions are wildly inaccurate and misleading. This is no way a resort, but rather a summer camp. The buildings were far from modernized, and the amenities were third-rate, like, for instance, the neglected basketball/tennis courts with weeds protruding through the cracks. It was certainly not worth the exorbitant fees. I now know why they wanted half of the balance long before our stay. I would not recommend this camp to anyone.

The photos online are extremely deceiving. The rooms smell of mold, are dirty. It’s sad to see the cleaners not have a proper set up to a better job cleaning as we saw one with just a tiny milk crate of supplies. We will not be attending again. It was not worth the stay at all. We almost considered driving home because we were so disappointed in the rooms.Even though the rooms are older, there is no excuse for the uncleanliness of the room.

I chose this place after looking on site at the pictures. Don’t be fooled! It’s dirty and run down. Our room was filthy, bare and the next step up from camping at a kids camp. Spiders, webs, filthy floors. Every amenity is run down and beat, I could not wait to go home. So sad, so much money spent. Bathroom baseboards were filthy and covered with rust. There were a few good things I can say, our view was great and the staff( all kids) were friendly. Very poorly run place with so much potential

What a quaint wonderful surprise. The rooms are a bit dated, yet what does one expect? The rooms are comfortable and the view as seen in the photo is amazing. The breakfast was very nice and the blue berry pancakes were amazing!! The staff Mike and Tony are extremely friendly and personable. I would highly recommend Ocean Gate to anyone and will return again.

This is not a resort and more like a summer camp stay. The hotel was deep in the woods and was difficult to travel to and from Boothbay Harbor attractions and restaurants, especially at night. The rooms were dated, the bathroom had three spiders in the shower, the screen door to the balcony was broken, and the TV remote broken. The hot tub was not operational. The pool area did not have an adequate number of pool chairs or towels, and had no lighting for an late evening swim. The room was pet friendly and did not smell like "dog". The full breakfast and the view from our balcony were the only good things. The full breakfast was served and included fresh eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, etc.... Unfortunately not worth the money!! Will not stay here again.

Would not recommend. Several issues. I will only name a few. Upon entering floors weren't clean. We had flies, moths, and tons of spiders. A huge web was right over the bed. Phone in room did not work and could not call because office closed at 8pm. Bathroom sink did not drain. Toilet clogged on second day and had to call and leave voice-mail for someone to fix. Bed sheets and bags became damp due to moisture. It was like living in a basement. Patio could not use. Mold and algae found on chairs, AC, and curtains. Shower ran cold. Had to keep it running for several minutes and start to use toilet and sink in order to get warm water. This place was not worth over 300 bucks a night.

Wow! What an incredible place to experience Maine for these Kentuckians! Plenty to do on-site. The putt-putt course is surprisingly entertaining, but we highly recommend the kayaks, especially in the evening. The sunsets are incredible, I wish I could bring them home. The rooms are fairly simple, but that's not why we chose to stay there. We will never forget Ocean Gate Resort!

Great views, great staff, great breakfast. Lots of wildlife nearby on the water and in the woods. Pool and hot tub. Kayaks and bikes to take out. My buddy and I paddled near Harbor Porpoises nearby.Rooms: Both times I went I had a private deck with a great view. Modern luxurious bed and bathroom.Nearby activities: Kayaking and biking.Safety: Helmets for bikes and pfds for watercraft.Walkability: Most of the resort is walkable.Food & drinks: They serve free breakfast buffet that is quite good.Noteworthy details: Want to try renting their cabins with some friends.

The hotel double charged me after I cancelled within the time frame. And they deny it. I'm fighting to get it back. My bank clearly has proof of an unauthorized charge, and the will not return my money. Fraud has been committed here. I am pursuing charges, Do not provide your credit card ever, they deny the transactions.Safety: They committed an unauthorized charge on my card. My safety is now under investigation

I can say I travel more then 3500 miles a month in maine. That's alot of hotels motels and resorts. This is hands down a hidden gem. I can only say one bad thing about my time there and that was there wasn't enough time there. FYI the manager of the establishment is a genuine human being with compassion and integrity that makes you wanna smile you can just feel the joy and happiness here. OCEAN GATE YOUR A TEN STAR IN MY BOOK. In closing there are certain places in maine you must visit and people THIS IS ONE.Nearby activities: Mini golf on site freeeeeeee.Walkability: Open beautiful walkways with wooden bridges that offer a amazing experience.Noteworthy details: The staff here. 10 out of 10 super friendly super helpful just all around Great staff and environment. And my breakfast people. There breakfast was the best I have had in a very long time

We visited during the memorial weekend holiday. The view and location is amazing. But the service is terrible. They were supper slow. The pool didn’t have towel and needed to ask 3 different people to finally bring some after half an hour. During the breakfast they were constantly ran out of everything, and needed to keep asking for some basics like coffee, sugar, cream, bread, cream cheese,… once called the room service to ask for fresh towels and they didn’t bring any for the next few hours. There are some life jackets available on site but they are so dirty and disgusting.

Update summer 2022 -A little disappointed at the lack of maintenance evident this stay vs last year.Rooms were clearly deficient in some areas of maintenance. Neither patio door lock worked. Missing light bulbs. Counter not secured. Rooms not properly cleaned.Breakfast was not quite as good as last year though still tasty. Outside tables are rusty and a bit nasty. Pavilion is surprisingly still standing. Vines and weeds growing into access stairs. Stairs are not well maintained in general.Staff were friendly and we certainly enjoyed our stay. But it fell a little short of last year's experience with issues that should never have been present.Summer 2021 - Really a wonderful option to the crammed hotels or bars in town. Comfortable rooms, wonderful views. Quiet, tranquil. Worth the short drive to town.Wonderful breakfast is included and certainly worth the effort.Only complaint - plumbing is surprisingly noisy between rooms.
