Great system to get through, even when it is very busy. Happy with everything I ordered here. They have a huge variety of bagels and pastries, and the coffee is very good. The only thing I would recommend is having more spots to sit outside for customers that want to enjoy their baked goods right away. Other than that, it is a fantastic place!

Be careful, Scratch is a market-style shop and all of their delicious treats are on full display as you walk in the entrance and follow the flow of traffic around to the check out - it's a feat not to leave with one or 10 of everything (and it's all just as delicious as it looks!)Staff is so friendly and kind. Scratch is a true gem.

Fantastic bakery. Did not disappoint. The ordering process moves the line quickly. When we got there the line was put the door and across the cross walk. We got through in about 10 minutes. The bagals have great flavor the Montreal spice was my favorite . The cookies are huge and paked with flavor. And of course I tried Nance's blueberry muffin.

Amazing bagels, breads, and staff! Pretzel chicken salad sandwich, and the super fudge brownie are sleeper hits. Huge part of our morning routine. We love you Scratch!Wheelchair accessibility: ADA access

The sea salt bagel is delicious, the sourdough in it has soft texture and the outside is slightly crisp. The scones are soft and buttery 😋😋

Enjoyed some outstanding house made bagels, cookies, and coffee. Line was long but was well organized and moved quickly! Service was very friendly and well appreciated!! Only wish I had a bit more time to gaze through all the incredible eats and treats…

The Maine sea salt bagel is world class, I’m not sure it can be beat. People laugh when I say the best bagels are in Portland but I never hear them talking after picking up a dozen on the way north. Only noms..

This place makes amazing baked goods! I really wanted to give 5 stars, But only 3 stars because i had a severe allergy reaction due to cross-contamination and i was very careful and asked for all the ingredients for everything i bought. They need to be more allergy friendly! Love the food but grow up a little and fix the cross-contamination and dirty kitchen when baking. I think you have outgrown your kitchenspace.

Most unique, soft and flavorful bagels I’ve ever had. The sea salt bagel is perfectly coated in a light crust of salt. We also tried the hot pepper, ham and chive scone and the ham and gruyere croissant. We are up visiting family in the area and when we return, we’ll be here for breakfast everyday! Everything looks scrumptious.

Best bagels in the area. Only downside is a bit of a wait if you want sea salt bagels. Also the cream cheese is incredible, especially the herb one. Other than the bagels there is an excellent selection of baked goods including, fantastic cookies, bread, cinnamon buns, and really good blueberry muffins. The space itself is quaint and the staff is friendly.

Great selection of bagels, breads, baked goods, and other pastry treats! I highly recommend the cheddar jalapeno bagels (only on Thursday) and the cinnamon raisin--they have the best flavor and texture (everything bagel is a bit weak in the everything seasoning). Their peanut butter cookie is made with real peanut chunks and was huge! Their fudgy brownie was very dense and good; I recommend warming it up and serving with ice cream. I appreciate the great traffic flow they have set up, where you enter and work through the counters in one-way direction and then pay for all your goodies at the end. Other stores should take note of this setup! I hope to be back again!

One of my favorite places for lunch or sweets. Great array of delicious sweets here! And, they make a mean Cuban. Some sandwiches and alternating soups. Amazing salads with fresh veggies!

Such a gem that we picked at random from Google Maps for breakfast and pastries on the way to Portland Head Light after arriving at the airport. Amazing sourdough bagels — some of the best we’ve ever had even coming from NYC — and delicious coffee too. Really cute local spot.

Bagels are some of the best I’ve had. Sweets, less so, but ok. Breakfast items had sold out by mid-morning on a Tuesday, but a steady stream of fresh items seemed to be making an appearance, perhaps in preparation for the lunch rush. Clientele was a fair mix of neighborhood folks and tourists, lots of families, people on their way to be nearby beach, all ages. Counter service was friendly and efficient. Not much seating apart from a bench and a couple picnic tables out front - everything’s ‘take-out’. No bathroom.

Stumbled upon this place and haven’t stopped talking about it.Soooo good!!Lots of tasty pastries, refrigerated offerings (chicken salad, coleslaw, etc) and artisan breads, BUT it’s the bagels that are to. die. for. Great chew, decadent, and crunchy on the outside. YUM! Nestled in the cutest little residential neighborhood, this bakery is affordable, yet worth a drive. We live in Massachusetts (1.5 hours away) but are already planning a return Autumn visit. You are doing EVERYTHING right!!

It was my first time going into scratch in a long time. No one was behind me in line. I get called to put in my order, I had my order ready to go. ‘Two everything bagels with cream cheese’ to which I’m BARKED back at ‘Name?!’, I’m shocked so I bark my name back at her; she then asks for my order! This employee was only responsible for taking my name and putting untoasted, spreadless bagels into a bag. Not much to bark and have an attitude about.Unless you’re local, don’t waste your time here. They will not prep your bagel to go to the beach or park, but they will ruin your morning and make you despise the brand. Garbage.

Always great bagels and pastries one thing I would say is that in the summer, mornings can be very busy and slightly annoying as a local with many tourists visiting, but it's really not a huge deal in comparison to how good the bagels are.

If you want the best bagel in New England (or probably the entire eastern seaboard), look no further than Scratch’s sea salt bagel. Soft, yet chewy, this sourdough bagel has just enough salt to push it over the edge. It’s incredible. The other baked goods and pastries are delicious as well, and the sandwiches are tasty too. I love the vegan jerk chick’n sandwich from the picture!

We lived in Portland Maine 10 years ago. We're coming from Mobile Alabama. And we dreamt of having bagels at this place. It's an institution in the places you must go. I love the salt and black sesame bagel and the everything bagel. Their pastry is outstanding. Thanks for the wonderful time. We enjoyed ourselves.

Far and away the best bakery anywhere. Excellent sandwiches, coffee, wine, beer...but the baked goods are so good. No corners cut, top notch ingredients, attention to detail. I can't say enough about how good this place is. I particularly like their coconut cake, almond horns, and macaroons, but EVERYTHING is delicious.
