I called on a Tuesday to see if they had walk-in availability for a nail trim/buffing, and they booked me a couple hours later. First time with my 3yo rescue, and it went great. Setting was calm and quiet. Kirsten and her colleague were friendly and professional--thanks for making this a great experience for my Pongo!

Scheduled a full bath and brush for a Sunday morning before the store was open. There's a separate exterior door for grooming which I didn't realize at first. I walked up to that door and saw a woman standing inside with 2 small dogs, so I picked my dog up in my arms and opened the door. A Petco employee put out her arm like she was trying to stiff-arm a defender and shouted "can you just wait outside please?!" I guess I'll never know if they're any good.

I will say I was a little bit skeptical of bringing my dog to Petco but my mother-in-law said that they did a really good job with her dog. First time I brought my one year-old 17 pound dog in here. I got a call five minutes later to come, pick him up that he was biting the tools and the technician. He has never bitten anybody or any dogs (he’s the love of all our neighbors dogs) and I will say I had an uneasy feeling in my stomach when I left the way that the technician grabbed at his face. They gave this dog no time to adjust to his environment and went right in hacking away at him. Now I have a dog that’s half cut up and have to figure out how to find someone last minute. The most unprofessional that I’ve seen and a couple other places we’ve gone. The only reason we didn’t go back to the other places as they were booked far out. Clearly a reason why we could get an appointment here.

Since on your website there is NO option for just a nail trim I called to confirm that it is a walk-in service as your website implies. I was told I need to call to schedule an appt. There seems to be a great deal of inconsistency between your website and the store for this type of service.

I do the self wash for my malamute here every few weeks. It is super convenient. I am told to leave it a mess when I am done. The shampoo and conditioner comes out of the shower head and the smell from it lasts for weeks. Easiest way to clean your pupper yourself.

If your pup is older than 7 they do not want to provide services because of what they told me is the trauma involved and standing for 3-4 hours. What?? She's 11 pounds and has been groomed every 6 weeks since age 6 months. Once I found out they make them stand 3-4 hours while they work on other dogs I was thankful for the conversation. I would never subject my dog to that.

We have a sweet, submissive, easily frightened little chihuahua that we adopted from our shelter a little over a year ago. Callie's nails had never been properly cared for and so we wanted a professional groomer for her. We were very lucky to find Janelle at Petco. She does a wonderful job of keeping Callie's nailbeds under control and her nails nice and short, the way they should be. Janelle is a very nice young woman and she always makes sure that Callie is not frightened. That's very important to us. I know how she handles her because I always stay and watch her do her delicate work on Callie's nails. She's wonderful and I highly recommend her.

I’ve pondered whether or not to leave this for awhile but after another good grooming experience elsewhere… I have to. TLDR: this Petco grooming location will not take the energy to care for your dog’s needs if they fall outside the perfect dog behavior during grooming.I got my nervous little dog in Seattle in March 2020. Being a new dog owner, I banded with his siblings’ families to help our dogs grow up together and we all went to Petco by the University and worked with JP. She was so nice and sweet and could tell I was a new pup parent and didn’t know how to care for dog. She taught me how to clip his nails, brush his teeth, and play with his paws so he would be a less nervous little patient. When I left, she told me that he was the sweetest little boy and if any groomer ever said he was hard to groom, I should know they aren’t doing their job right.I moved to Maine and found this Petco, hoping for a similar experience. I tried to make sure he was at least groomed by the same person but never seemed to get the same groomer. They kept him for 3 hours - sure he’s a long haired dog but he’s 11 lbs. They never quite kept the same trim despite trying to keep notes from session to session. After three sessions at this Petco after, I was informed that Bode was too ill behaved to come back. I was upset and angry and frustrated. I brought my cowering dog back home and hugged him close. Over the next few days, I found scabs on his ears, chest, and stomach. The poor dog had been completely shaved after they said his hair was too hard to work with.Since then, we have been to Rebel Pet and the Fairy Dog Groomer - both have said he is a sweet boy who is nervous and a little wiggly but nothing compared to what this Petco complained of. I told both he had been asked to not come back and both told me he’s a sweet boy who justs a little love comfort. One even said she had no problem with trimming his paws, something Petco said they were not able to do because he was fighting them so hard.Look, maybe it was a bad day or a new groomer, but my dog was not treated well here. There are amazing Petco groomers and this is not one of them.

The ladies in the grooming facility were polite, professional, and top-notch. Made my pup feel comfortable, and were incredibly informative regarding different ways that I can help my dog who has some allergies/redness of skin. Will continue bringing Marley here, thanks gals!

Excellent service as always. Janelle cut and groomed all three of our Shih Tsu dogs. She is always very caring and friendly with them. She does an excellent job every time in a very timely manner. Love her and so do my my dogs!

Very impressed with Piper’s haircut! I ask for a pretty unusual cut for a Yorkie and it was perfect! I felt comfortable leaving her with the staff. The lady who cut pipers hair mentioned that she was going to take extra time and care since piper was now considered a “senior”. Piper clearly enjoyed the extra time, care and pampering cause she didn’t want to leave!

I absolutely love going in here all the employees are so knowledgeable & if they don't know something they find someone that dose. They have a employees in there name Shane & hes so helpful, knowledgeable, and extremely friendly. Were always greeted at the door & they take amazing care of the pets in Store. They always have a great selection of pet food, pet supplies, pets, and clearance items. I highly recommend this Petco over the other pet stores around

The ladies at the South Portland Petco always do a fabulous job with my dogs nails! I like to keep them short and they are the only ones that I have found that can get them short enough and have never had any injury to the quick!

Brought my dog in for a walk in service (quick nail trim) and was turned away even though other Petco locations gladly accept walk ins. Attempted multiple times to call and make an appointment (kind of ridiculous to make an appointment for a two minute service....) but nobody answers.
