We love this place. When you make your reservation you need to choose between the two daily offerings (check the website for the weekly line up). We've all got our favorites and have never been disappointed but the pot roast is off-the-chart outstanding.

Our family ate a delicious generously portioned breakfast in their restaurant before heading out on Moosehead with one of Maynard's rental boats. We cruised for 6+ problem free hours and focused on enjoying our day. We will definitely be back for breakfast next time we are in the area.

Our first time in the area and needed a place to stay last minute. We happened upon Maynard's by chance and luckily they had a cabin available. Wonderful rustic cabin with a porch overlooking the Moose River. We ended up staying two nights we enjoyed it so much. The breakfast and dinners were fantastic with generous portions. We will definitely be back!

The Schemeley family has been going there since before I was even born and I'm 44. If you want a great atmosphere with great owners..this is the place to be. They take great care of you and thier establishment. I can't wait to come and bring my children there as my parents did and there parents before them.

Friday night old school prime rib dinner was the best I have had in a long time! Quantity was more than anyone needs and service was very attentive. BYOB in case you want to try it for yourself! I waddled out, but I will go back anytime!!!

This is always a great place to eat. The food is great tasting and we'll worth the price. Let me also add they have an open view of the water and mountain sides. Now, because of Covid-19, phone reservations are required to allow for appropriate spacing in seating patrons. In addition, at this time masks are required unless being seated. My wife, daughter-law, and I had shallots while my son had pot roast. Baked potato or mashed potatoes were one of the sides with each meal and green beans and rolls. Soup was included and we had coffee/water with our meal. The desserts were especially delicious: vanilla ice cream with strawberry toppings, carrot cake, cheesecakes, and chocolate torte. We each tried a different one, so we can affirm the excellent taste of them all. BTW, the servings are good size as well. Again, I strongly recommend experiencing this third-generation run family restaurant.

I love Maynard's. When you go there you are transported back in time and everything is right with the world. However remember that when you eat the food as well. I had the shrimp scampi and my husband had the baked stuffed shrimp ( Wednesday's menu) I had never had shrimp scampi over rice but it was an option so I though what the heck. I am pretty sure there was at least a whole stick of butter in my rice and shrimp...maybe more. Same with my husband's dish as well. But hey we were on vacation and had a bottle of red wine which goes very well with a pound of butter. I loved it all, it was a great date night and of course we made new friends with people dining next to us and the service was fantastic. Thank you Maynard's for another great memory!

A must if you are in Rockwood. Breakfast is always fresh and the view of the Moose River wonderful. Dinner is reasonable but clearly not their strong point but the desserts are worth coming for. Its BYOB.

This is family operated old style Maine sporting lodge on the Moose river near it's outlet into Moosehead lake. Lodging with or without American plan, breakfast and dinner. Also has old style cabins. We usually go there for breakfast or dinner when in the area. Dinner usually requires reservations with two meal choices. Had ribs last time, excellent. Check out there website.

The food was amazing the new chef is wonderful the service when calling is the most cold and rude we had just had reservations two weeks prior and was told no way no how I had the time slot I did they close at 9 and yet will not make a 730 reservation but we have always made them for this time and just had them for this time two weeks prior who knows where the problem came from here but hopefully it is not a common occurrence

Open all year round, Maynard’s in Maine has become a staple of inland Maine by providing wonderful cabin rentals along with a fantastic family style restaurant. Nestled in Rockwood, sitting along the Moose River, Maynard’s is in the perfect placement for anyone who wants to experience Moosehead Lake, the mountains, and the wilderness, or simply look for moose. While Maine is ravaged by tough winters every year, Maynard’s remains open, with hunting, boating, hiking, and other outdoor opportunities right there or conveniently close by. They even have their own personal docks and boats that can be rented, too; AND they will fry up your catch of the day, upon request. How cool is that?!Maynard’s in Maine has a variety of private cabins in all shapes and sizes, with some units that come with kitchens, though, there’s little need of cooking considering how good their restaurant is. Each cabin has a rustic charm with a simplistic comfort that I found to be a lovely change from the hustling and bustling corporate hotel approach. The cabins may not have TVs in most of them, or WIFI (but it is available in the main building and restaurant), but to me, being technologically connected person in all other aspects of my life, I found the respite to be exactly what I needed. To get out and away is the best remedy for the stresses and anxieties of the modern world, and Maynard’s provides that for its visitors and friends. Maynard’s in Maine has 13 cabins, eight that are available with meals provided and five that offer daily housekeeping only.I had the pleasure of staying for two nights in the Birch cabin, which had a nice view of the river with a mountain behind behind it, and a flying osprey friend who flew back and forth along the river, occasionally diving for fish. The Birch cabin has a queen bed, a bathroom, a wood burner, and a perfect porch for lounging, relaxing and simply enjoying the simple art of being alive in a beautiful place. Maynard’s provided firewood which was hugely appreciated for when the nights got a little cool, which helped to set the mood our trip all the more. Our stay was relaxing, comfy, romantic, and just what Leah and I needed for our honeymoon.Maynard’s offers what is called the American Plan, which is awesome, because it includes three meals a day (breakfast, a packed lunch and a fine dinner), with housekeeping everyday. That plan really cuts the cost of a trip, because at the moment of writing this, it’s only $90 a night, per person, no matter what size cabin. Otherwise, it’s $50 per person, without meals. Leah and I enjoyed the roast pork loin, which was dynamite, and then the next night we had baked and breaded scallops, which were to die for. Seriously, the food is so good! Maynard’s in Maine may not fit into the preset 5-star mold of amenities, but I can say truthfully that Leah and I had a 5-star experience at Maynard’s. We loved it so much so that we’re already talking about returning in the future.
