I came here for the eclipse but I am no stranger to Rockwood or Moosehead. usually I go for a cabin in a more secluded area but we wanted a lower price and sacrificed knowing we would be closeby other cabins. The dense living is the only reason I would give 4 stars instead of five. if you know this in advance and accept/do not mind this aspect, you WILL enjoy your stay here. The cabins have everything you need, the scenery is amazing, you have access to everything you would want in the village of Rockwood. it is perfect for the customer wishing to stay in a place more secluded than Greenville but at a good price.

I have been coming with my mom and kids for 10 years now and we absolutely love this place. The owners are incredibly friendly (including entertaining my daughter with their chickens), the housekeeping services are awesome (and the woman who cleans is fantastic)! The location is perfect and the amenities they have for the kids are top notch. We love the paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, tunes, and life jackets available for use. 10/10. I would highly recommend.

The cabin was fine for the price which was low compared to other lodgings in the area. No air conditioning but that is not unusual for Maine, although with climate change they may want to rethink that. Ceiling fan made the temperature bearable. If you like seclusion, this is definitely not the place for you, as other cabins are about an arm's length away and there are people everywhere. Room for 4, but only two adults because the queen bed is in a kind of large closet and the bunk beds are only suitable for children. The owners were civil, which seems to be what passes for friendly and/or welcoming in this part of the state.

So I was prompted by google to leave a review regarding “Gray Ghost Camps” this morning… I could probably write 10,000 words or more to express my full enjoyment of this place, but, I will try to refine that to a few sentences that will convey a reasonable, impression and expectation for you.If I HAD to pick “one word?” It would be: “YES,” lol.. If I was to add to that “yes…” I would add, “this is the place you’ve been looking for…”A family owned and operated business that is packed with thoughtful extras. Set on the beautiful Moose River, they offer an old fashioned escape from the stresses of our modern cities and towns. Quiet, relaxing and peaceful. That river flows 24 hours a day and is the “sentinel of serenity.” Lots of wildlife around to stumble upon. Steve and Amy (and family) have put a lot into considering the experience of their guests. Very generous people.I always shop for “value” when looking for a place to stay in Maine. I always leave Gray Ghost Camps thinking: what a great deal! You might find another cabin elsewhere that has a cheaper number on it. But, I doubt you can find any as nicely maintained as these are! Certainly the best overall value I could recommend! Great experience, and great memories to take home with you…

Gray Ghost Camps is a nice cottage experience. It spans a few hundred feet of waterfront, a couple of boat launches, plenty of slips on several docks. The swimming is great. However, the river current can be a bit overwhelming if you leave the shore and swim for the swimming raft (with slide and diving board). We were there in late July, and the fishing was disappointing. My son probably spent 20+ hours fishing from shore and only caught a few chub and one smallmouth bass (decent, 2-3 lb).Free to use are a variety of decent kayaks, some canoes and a couple of stand up paddle boards, which are in rough shape (one missing fins, both taking on water). Plenty of life jackets of all sizes.Firepits riverside. Nice hardwood mill scrap firewood for sale for reasonable fee. Steve and Amy were always available by text to answer questions.Overall, a great experience.

This is a great place to stay right on the Moosehead River! Beautiful docks to keep your boat, if you one, or decide to rent one. This place is "As Advertised", book your cabin now! Amy & Steve are wonderful people, we loved Joe's Smelt cabin.Rooms: 3 great bedrooms.Noteworthy details: The wildlife, ducks, eagles, cormorans, seagulls, etc. are abundant and alive just outside your windows.

A great stay in beautiful surroundings. The people staffing the cabins were nice and super helpful. There are boats/kayaks free to use if you are staying there. The cabins are clean, comfortable, and have almost all the comforts of home. A fire pit outside and a fireplace inside, gas grill, coffee maker, well situated kitchen... We enjoyed every second. And they allow dogs, which is a must for us.

The cabin we rented, Joe's Smelt, was gorgeous. Plenty of room for our group of 6. We had easy access to the river, it being right out back of the cabin. A nice fire pit to enjoy a night next to the river. The staff were very friendly, answering our myriad of questions. Easy 30 minute drive to a grocery store.Good fishing right off the dock out back. All in all it was a great stay

Always a 5! Awesome setting along the Moose River. Great cabins, newly renovated, with everything you need provided. Perfect place for kids to play and enjoy. Many options available, FREE....for water sports or lawn games...including kayaks, canoes and paddle boards...not to mention GREAT owners who truly love to host and love kids ...which is good since they have 2 handsome boys themselves 😃

Stayed here last year and going back next weekend. This place is spectacular. Clean cabins from the bathroom to the linens. The owners are incredibly nice and invisible if you prefer it that way or easily accessible if you as well. Can't wait for our upcoming week

Actually Cabin #6 is very clean and cozy. Just be aware that there are several trailers right outside your door. Pictures are deceiving. Looks secluded- it’s not! Pretty when looking straight out the front window only. Grill was dirty and burnt our dinner to a crisp. Just apologized - nothing else!

Great, if you can get in. Called to inquire and received a nasally, fake drawl saying the site was being booked for the next month and a half. Never mentioned which cabin I was looking at and thought I'd dialed the wrong location. Website shows available on multiple cabins for the times I wanted. Said they couldn't clean that frequently.. rude, poor service. Been before, won't go again.

If you’re looking for a nice, quiet and fun northern Maine experience, then look no further! Gray Ghost Camps has it all and you won’t be disappointed. From the friendly owners and staff, to the sounds of the Loons, take a fun tube ride down the Moose river, do some fishing, kayak in the early morning fog and star gaze on one of the docks. You can also charter a day of fishing or rent a boat to explore around Moosehead Lake. Oh, and make sure you take a trip to Mt Kineo for some hiking, golfing, cliff jumping or just an leisurely walk. This place is a little piece of heaven!

Nobody maintains a better experience than Amy and Steve. I've been staying there, off and on for 20 years and each stay I'm more impressed with the cabin upgrades. Of course there is no better location for fishing

My son and I have been camping on Moosehead Lake every year since he was 12, he's 32 now. We rent a boat and go up the Lake to remote camp grounds. We have been in many camp grounds, there are no bad ones, at least so far. We have rented and been happy and we have rented very bad equipment and have had troubles. Gray Ghost provided friendly service and a boat and motor well maintained and very serviceable. We are from Boston and have felt resentment from time to time from locals, not so at Grey Ghost. Some day when I am too old to camp I will rent a cottage there. That may be sooner rather than later but for this summer, I am going back to rent there.

Hard to get a hold of them 'I am to busy for phone calls and emails I just text'Not the best at letting you know when issues arise in your camp either, if they are renting your camp out.Their camps are nice and they have a great spot on the river though

Quaint little warm cabins in the river. It's peaceful and self operating. No worries of owners hovering around and annoying you, like others I've been to with ridiculous rules.
