Store is not very clean, certainly not well maintained. They refuse to staff the registers, self checkout only. Very rude staff! Clearly they don't want my business, just zero customer service.

Store is nice and clean It's conveniently-located. there's plenty of parking. the help is really nice.Prices have gone way up so you are wise to look for sales & buy the store brands.An odd thing that they're doing which I find strange (but a lot of things are strange these days) they don't have bags of ice except one small cooler of medium sized ones that they call extra fresh or pure or similar for $4 bucks a bag for frozen water. No thanks I'll stop by Walmart where it's $1.88, if they aren't empty like they often are.

Disgusting store. The bathroom has mold on the back splash of the hand dryer with no paper towel option. So you have to send forceful air at mold spores to dry your hands. On top of that their is literal feces smeared on tiles and in grout. I can only imagine how unsanitary the rest of the store must be.

It's not surprising that multiple Shaw's stores are going out of business, when it is next to impossible to purchase the food items I want. Shaw's fried chicken is the best around and primarily the main item I look for at Shaw's (beside the lobster rolls), but any time I go (generally once a week for the past 8 months or so) there is NEVER any fried chicken available. I do not go in at weird hours either - I am there either right before lunch (12:30-1), or right before dinner (4:30-5). Many days, the deli is already closed when I get there around 1!?I have even tried calling to order it ahead of time, only to be told that there is no one to cook it, or that they have already turned off the fryer. This week in particular the fried chicken 8 pack is on sale, so I was especially concerned there would not be any. I just called to ask to have some made and was told there is only one bag left, they will not hold it for me, and the fryer is shut off so they can't make any more. Shut off at 2:45 in the afternoon??? Sounds to me like staff who just don't want to be bothered, even for an item that is prominently featured in this week's ad.Well, I guess I can't be bothered to go to Shaw's then - I will take my business to other local grocery stores who actually care about customer service. What a shame.

Shaw's Supermarket is my goto supermarket always has been. I know there's Hannaford, Market Basket & Wal-Mart. I personally do not shop at Hannaford or Market Basket. Once in a while I'll hit Wal-Mart but I only get Staple's there, I never buy meat's, dairy, produce. it's such as dog food, laundry soap,paper goods, cleaning supplies, items along those lines. With that being said about other store's their are many reasons I choose to shoppe at Shaw's it's my go-to store for all of my food items ect. Any Shaw's that I have been to in New Hampshire or Maine they are always clean & neat. All the ladies & gentlemen that work at Shaw's have always been friendly and not just in this particular store but in every Shaw's I've been to. Any associates I have encountered have always been friendly & willing to be helpful the other 3% I chalk it up to that particular person having a bad day probably in a bad mood & doesn't even realize that they had come off a bit rude, I won't hold it against a person when you can tell that most likely that isn't their typical nature. We all have bad days, we are all human.!

Avoid this place. My partner and I live nearby so this place is convenient. Except every time I shop there and use the self check I get watched like I’m going to steal. They completely disregard everyone in front of me and as soon as I step up to the check out they act like they are stocking or out right stand a few feet away and watch me like a hawk. Ive spent a lot of money at this store and im tired of this happening every time. Im literally your neighbor and work hard for my money. Im not interested in stealing from your overpriced store.

Went to buy Distilled water. Left without Distilled water. Went elsewhere to buy Distilled water. But the store was clean and stocked (unless you went there to buy Distilled water).

Congress St, Portland, Maine store. Sunday evening, January 16, 2022. No open cashier and the terribly rude night manager told me that if I didn't want to self-checkout alone that I "should do my shopping earlier in the day". She announced that the new store policy is limited to self checkout only from 9 pm to closing. I should have left my full carriage right then and walked out of the store at that point, but I had just spent half an hour shopping. If this policy had been posted on the front door, when I entered, I would not have not shopped at this store. The manager and an idle cashier holding an open pack of cigarettes and checking her watch stood over me and watched me struggle with a $110 order for 15 minutes and until well AFTER store closing time while I attempted to finish up my order. Another shopper had to wait the entire 15 minutes it took me to self checkout before he could cash himself out, as there was only one checkout station in operation. Despite my repeated pleas for help with the self checkout, the manager and cashier refused to open a register or help me. They could have very easily assisted with my attempt to self checkout instead of watching me struggle and insisting on "teaching" me how to operate the system. This new policy added at least a bonus 20 minutes to each of the 2 employees time cards for the night. I am not going to continue to be scolded by Shaw's store employees who tell me that I "need to learn to self checkout" or to "plan to do my shopping " during different store hours that do not fit my life. I will take my long shopping list to Hannaford where the staff has always been friendly and helpful. Best of luck to you folks with this new "customer service" policy!*************************************************************************Update : (Thursday, January 20, 2022) Just want to update all you shoppers that the cheerful and engaging response to my feedback from "the owner" of Shaw's is written below. TED over in baked goods is constantly digging at his teeth and nose behind the counter and never washes his hands even after using the rest room. Please don't buy from their bakery for your own health. I told another worker and I'm sure nothing will get done. I for one will not be shopping here anymore.

Being a Person of color and shopping here is the worst!! I would not advice anyone who is black, from Africa or from a different background to shop here. We had an incident happen on Sunday august 7 while shopping at this location where we were targeted and asked about our disability when my niece decided to use the scooter cart to shop. Never will I shop here again. Jackie had no right to ask my niece or anyone of color why they needed to use the cart or what their disability/disadvantage was. She further continued to make my niece uncomfortable when I sent them back inside to buy something and when I questioned her she said they were pointing at her and speaking in another language. I never knew that we were not allowed to speak in another language while shopping at Shaw’s. If this is the way immigrants are treating shopping here, I would urge anyone whose forms different background not to shop here!! Worst experience ever!!

My go to location for my Weekly shopping. Relaxed local atmosphere. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The store can get busy during peak hours, but the front end does a excellent job of getting everyone checked out quickly. Would recommend to all people new to town!

The staff are great but so many of their shelves have food past the sell by and best before. Their meats, milk, yogurt and just yesterday their baby food has all had products past their sell by and best before dates. I have mentioned this before to the cashiers and it seems nothing is done.

This location is the fav.of my family ;I can remember doing here as a very young girl with Mom.I like that it hasStayed the same In- terms of set up .I find an unspoken comfort with thisFamiliarity that's remains,as well as from an nostalgic aspect ; My grandchildren accompany me often..There is something special to be said,and found in the very few of places that still remain as they were at inception- with everything changing ,setting goals to be" bigger and better"..At times ,I wonder if we should also think of what stands to be lost ,and find a better balance.This Shaw's is wonderfully staffed with a good crew..The meats have always been very fresh ,and it's set up is easy to negotiate from one section to others.Parking is ample,well-lit,and handicap spaces are very close to entrance.The managers can consistently be seen throughout the store,working,andInteracting with the shoppers.

The Congress St location wins my pick for"Most Improved". Years back it was a mess, but now it's been totally renovated. It's a cozy location. The deli is impressive, and I like how they group organic items near similar items, rather than having an organic section like most Shaw's locations do.

Asked for assistance to find a product (coconut milk) and luckily there was So Delicious in small cartons. I just wished they had larger containers. Unsweetened coconut yogurt too is good to have vs the sweetened flavors

Now that the store has been renovated, it's a pleasure to shop there. Like the rest of Shaw's markets, there are many bargains, deals and BOGO items. The deli dept is wonderful, very nice produce dept and the meat dept has weekly specials, good quality too.

Pricey and the staff isn't overly attentive or helpful. Staff product knowledge could use some work. Produce selection is hit or miss--and the prices at Hannaford's and Trader Joe's are worth the extra distance for me.

The Shaws on Congress St./Westgate is a nice, clean but small store. It's good for a quick stop but for me it doesn't quite offer enough choices to meet the needs of major shopping days. The employees are friendly and helpful. It's also a bit pricey like a typical Shaws store.

I have never had a bad experience at Shaws Westgate. The employees are very helpful, courteous and treat me with respect always. Everyone from John the manager to the people stocking shelves and bagging groceries they always have a smile on their face. You are treated like family there. I have shopped at that Shaws for over 35 years

I usually enjoy shopping here. Plenty of parking. Never busy. The trouble comes when trying to use the Mymixx app. It won't work when you're inside the store according to the woman manager. She told me to go to the parking lot to use it. It wasn't the app it was the website.(website was down). She wouldn't honor the discounts. 1 star for today. 5 star if things would have gone smoothly.

A bit more expensive then Hannaford and other places, but a lot of the deals they always have going on are worth it, and the 50% of racks by the door where they go out back of building, at the back of the store are really great clearance items. Best of all they have my coffee creamers the international delights herseys chocolate caramel coffee creamer which is a big plus to me, cause not m as ny stores have it hook

If you're going to ask your customers to adhere to social distancing guidelines then be consistent. The woman in line ahead of me had her items on the belt and was standing between the red squares before I even got in line. So when it was her turn to pay I went ahead and started unloading my basket only to have the cashier ask me to step back to the red square. Was there something about me that made this cashier feel like she should enforce social distancing protocol, but not for the woman in line in front of me? Made me feel like there might of been... even though I wasn't coughing or sniffling. Plus, my daughter came into the store with me to use the bathroom but was unable to because both toilets in the women's restroom were clogged. Just overall negative experience.

Shaws Westgate has seemingly bounced back from the pandemic - phase of closures,curb-side pick up's ,and all thoseNew ways we learned to conduct our shopping ; it's very clear however,they took a massive hit as most businesses did...with finding / keeping individuals who are willing to work .The store is a little off their game ,so to -speak...But,don't let this deter you ,or have you thinking you'd be better off heading to North gate or Westbrook crossing ... especially ,if you are someone who has frequented this store so ce atleast the 80's if not back further...This store is not redone ...it is not been given the 20th century face lift all the other stores on the eastern sea board have pretty much under- gone.It's been preserved ,and kept in it's original state ...with the exception ofUpdated technical systems , and new floors ...which my generation I believe appreciates .I never want to see 5his particular Shaws join the others ,losing it's appeal that has had Un arguable staying power in its own right ,and when compared to other new and improved versions of Shaws"over yonder" in North Gate .Don't worry ...they will be back up, & fully on their game in no-,time ...so says a little birdie familiar with this establishment.

Went to buy some crab at about 8:15pm on a weekday. Everything was put away at the seafood/deli counter. Was told the seafood counter and deli close at 7pm. The store closes at 10pm. In Portland Maine, the seafood isn't even open to buy past 7pm? This is baffling to me.

Shaws is the only store that carries Dunkin Donuts Color Me Caramel!! They just need to have more than 2 carts for people who need to ride.
