My main commuter bike had been used and abused for many years without any TLC, so I ended up bringing it to the gearhub for a complete overhaul: new shifters, brakes, cables and housing, etc. They were able to get the work done very quickly, and now my bike is running perfectly. They also were able to source used components to bring the cost done. They were also very communicative and transparent about their timeline, costs, etc. Thanks gearhub!

An amazing place to support in the local Portland community. Donate your used bicycles, and they will have trained mechanics thoroughly inspect and repair (or recycle the ones that don't make the cut) each one for resale at fair prices. This is a great charitable way to support your community, and simultaneously help to reuse/recycle older bikes that would have normally been considered as waste. Great people doing great things here!

It was the only place with bikes without waiting months when the pandemic started. I bike 5,000+ miles per year. Over three and a half years I’ve walked up twice and had immediate service with flats and new tires and brakes. I would purchase another bike here, if needed. I’ve sent other people here for service.

I can't recommend Portland Gear Hub enough - they did a complete overhaul of my uncle's road bike for me and it came out better than I could have imagined. This was a multi-part project with disassembly and prep for the paint shop (Paragon Powder Coating in S. Portland), upgrading/swapping out parts, and complete re-assembly. I am so impressed with their professionalism, knowledge, and overall enthusiasm for this project every step of the way. Gear Hub will certainly remain my bike shop for all my future bike needs. Thank you to Brian, Ainsley, Digory, and the rest of the gear hub crew!!

I hadn’t ridden a bike in over 10 years and was a little nervous to start riding again, but the staff at Gear Hub helped me find a great bike, answered all my questions and made me feel safe. Now I’m really enjoying my new bike!

The crew is super nice and genuine here. Really had a great experience. The staff was not "sales" pushy at all and just treated us like people. We ended up dropping off a bike here for donation which aligns with their business model. They take bikes in, refurbish them, sell them to the public and the proceeds both run the shop and help a charitable organization. Their selection is not extensive but they do have gems which I was lucky enough to find. Prices are firm but very reasonable.

Very sweet, quick knowledge and helpful. Repaired/replaced my needed bike part in under an hour. Offered plenty of options as well for how parts could be taken care of

Amazing experience! Got a used Giant bike at a fair price which rides excellent and very well refurbished. Lucky that I got to know about this store just before my tour.

So, I received a new folding bike at home. But in spite of their bike maint. course a couple of yrs. ago, I couldn't recall how to adjust the calipers so they weren't touching the tires. I called, offered to pay someone there to show me how to adjust the calipers, and they refused. She said they don't do that, they could do it for me. I explained that I live on an island, and it would be so helpful if they showed me (3 minutes perhaps!). And that I'd pay them for this. "Nope, we don't do this. We can do it for you." Well, now they've lost a relatively regular customer, for good. Happily there are other bike shops around. Bye, good people.

I dropped of my 1976 Motobocane Grand Touring bike for a complete tune up and overhaul. It needed shifter parts that are not available online. They did a fabulous job! I highly recommend them.

I traveled a hour because everyone gassed them up, the cheapest bike I seen was like 250$ an it was a disaster, the next few bikes I looked at were all over priced including a gt for almost 700$ keep in mind these are all used bikes repaired with miscellaneous parts. Market place is your best bet,or a pawn shop. I settled with a 2015 specialized hardrock sport for 100$ even, they retail between 450-600$ new. Super quality for this line of specialized bikes. Research first I saved myself 250$ this way from what I was planning to spend.

There was a time when you visit a store and you were met with genuine attentive polite staff... remember that? Well this shop is too notch for customer service, knowledge, polite, etc. They care about finding a solution that fits your budget, are so nice and giveback to the community! Great bunch of men and women that are passionate about what they do and enjoy sharing that passion with others.

Gear Hub is a not for profit bicycle (mostly) shop that does basic repairs for very affordable prices. The knowledgeable and friendly staff are always willing to help with anything you might need. I've gotten several small repairs done quickly and easily. They sell used bicycles for great prices. I love their new location and had started going there when they were in their old St John's St location. Always a pleasure stopping by here.

I love my new bike so much! I hunted forever to find the perfect one and landed on a vintage ll bean cruiser. Thanks to the awesome employee helping me, I didn’t get his name but he built me the perfect bike!

Super friendly staff. They always help me find a used part if possible. They're really informative and let me know what's going on with the bike and what the options are. I feel respected there which I can't say about every bike shop I've visited.

I've only ever had good experiences here. They helped me get my tire replaced in a timely fashion, and once when my chain was screwy on my way to work I popped in and they got it straightened at no cost. Thanks Portland Gear Hub! Keep being awesome!

Really excellent place! Extremely helpful and kind staff. Had some oddball stuff I was looking for and they had Newbaums bar wrap, how can one be more satisfied?!!? Defiantly will be supporting such a great part of our community!

Wonderful place. Personally, I'd like to be able to go through the bins of used parts without asking to see them (and asking what the price is). Perhaps that's a covid precaution, though? That said, the employees were perfectly happy to help and friendly!

Excellent array of gently used components, wheels, odds and sods. Staff is genuinely into what they're doing and are very attentive. Incredible selection of ready-to-ride used bikes at equally incredible prices. This is what Portland needs!

Took my bike in to get tuned up. Made an appointment, got an estimate, and they had the bike ready the next day!

Very friendly and about half the price for repairs. I have a Marin Hybrid road bike that’s been in my family for 20 + years, and I took it to one shop saying that I should consider buying a new bike due to the potential cost of the repairs. I took my bike over to the gear hub, and they quoted me at $145, regardless of how extensive the repairs were

Portland Gear Hub is hands down one of my favorite organizations in Portland. I took their bike mechanics class two years ago and it totally transformed my life. I ended up going on a 1500 mile bike tour with my partner, and we were able to handle any problem that came up with our bikes. I now feel confident helping friends with their bikes, and customizing mine to be the perfect fit. Not only is the Gear Hub's bike class INCREDIBLE, but they also have used bike parts, making working on bikes so much more affordable. Thank you Gear Hub!!!

This place is so so I overpriced and for a non profit business to sell bike tubes for a 20 inch fat tire bike for 26.00 is a little outrageous and a fanny pack that says Treets for 45.00 other than expensive prices the staff is friendly but they should defanatley think about prices and make it a little more afor

This place rocks! An ever changing selection of bikes from an eclectic and diverse source means you may find real gems for fair prices that were recently restored by a team of devoted bike-people. While there, a saw an ice cream cart and a Reynolds 853 single speed mountain bike with disc brakes: they were both several hundred less than a site like Craigslist might be asking.

Awesome, super friendly staff. I picked up a bike, helmet, and lock for 300 bucks, and within 30 days you can go in and they'll fix stuff for free. Go to bike shop in Portland.

I've had a few bikes repaired there. Very reasonable price. Also I have one I was planning on selling but will be donating instead 🙃
