A great coffee roaster and shop. Stopped by to grab a coffee on my way out of Portland and for my drive back to NYC. They had a large selection of different roasts and I grabbed a bag that fit a flavor profile I was looking for. With the purchase came a free coffee and I tried their brewed light roast. It was delicious and hit the spot. The service was good and the space was big enough for people to gather and enjoy coffee too.

This is a very spacious Coffee by Design. If you've been in Portland for a long time, you'll know that most of the coffee by designs have been small, cozy spots. This is more of a cozy large spacious one! Definitely not intimate in the main room but there is a separate seating area that I believe used to be for staff only which now they have opened up for customers. That's a nice spot if you prefer more quiet. Anyway, the coffee's always great as it is at every Coffee by Design. The customer service is always pretty good. They have lots of different types of seating , for example, you can sit at the bar where the baristas make their magic, or you can sit at a two top table, or you can sit and lounge at one of the tables that has leather cushion seats. They also have large glass windows into the roasting room (is that what it's called?) that can look through.It's my favorite coffee shop in Portland. And if you want to celebrate true Portland local business, go there.PS I am so so sad that I'm not able to bring my pup in with me anymore. I've always been appreciative of coffee by design, allowing well-behaved dogs to accompany their owners. I think it's because now they have some food items. I said bring back the dogs and the dog treat jar and get rid of the bagels lol. 😃Dietary restrictions: They offer vegan milksParking: There are a few spaces in front of the building and also across the street which is shared with other businesses.

Coffee By Design in Portland boasts exceptional customer service, with consistently friendly and polite staff. The coffee quality is unparalleled, arguably the best in Southern Maine. The only downside is the wait time, attributed to the shop's perpetual popularity. Despite the minor inconvenience, the overall experience is worth the brief delay for a sip of their outstanding brew.

Cool local coffee joint serving homemade goodies along with awesome coffee. Nice decor. Friendly staff. Free wifi. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in the Portland area. The raspberry tart was the perfect accompaniment to the over coffee I ordered there yesterday morning.

We have been buying coffee from CBD for 15+ years via mail order, and today we stopped in at their store on Diamond Street in Portland. The coffee here (we always buy decaf) is the best, the service was top notch and very friendly, and the store is neat and clean. I highly recommend giving their coffee a try - you will fall in love with it as we did.

milk burnt. calling this a cortado? more like... ROTTEN TOMATO!!!!! coffee shouldn’t curdle this much even *if* it is a light roast! the coffee is too hot and the milk is too cold. barista fax 101. might be the best roasters but definitely not the best baristas.Great seating , spacious, nice place. coffee made me sad </3

Love the beans here. Their 1994 blend is great. 16 - 20 dollars for a bag. Larger bags here than most other places (16oz vs 12oz)Good espresso. Pleasantly complex. Strong.

It’s a cute shop and has kind people working there, however, I’m not sure if it was my coffee, or maybe the milk that was put in it. However the drink tasted so sour that I couldn’t finish it. I’m not sure if it was just make wrong. Overall if the coffee was a better, it feels like a great place to hang out, have some conversations or to work on your computer. Also they did have a GREAT collection of coffee related accessories, such as drips.

Espresso drinks were not barista-quality and the flavor was off in our vegan beverages. We could appreciate the creative vibe in a space that overlays some fairly original flourishes over a generic warehouse and garage door setting.

I got several calls from my community regarding this coffee shop. The community is upset with the support this shop is giving to a local nonprofit named Gateway despite the fact that this nonprofit was found scheming and conspiracy. We believe Ellen Linderman is the concern and should be removed.

Coffee by Design is truly passionate about coffee. This location is where the coffee is roasted and it offers an all-glass wall so that visitors can observe the operation. The smell is incredible, as are the stories of the farms the beans are sourced from. It's a fantastic meeting spot.

Great coffee and great atmosphere. I enjoy all specialty coffee and making my own espresso at home. When I'm traveling it's great to find a place that understands coffee and can truly make a great cup that feels like home. The employees were extra helpful as they came over to help pick out beans and my fiance who accidentally ordered the wrong drink they said they would change it without hesitation. Highly recommend checking this place out if you enjoy coffee or if you're a coffee enthusiast (they roast there own beans!!)

So many coffee flavors to pick from! Used a gift card to purchase my bag of coffee, which came w/a free(!) small coffee! The dark chocolate sea salt donut was delicious. Sat outside for a pleasant, relaxing breakfast. Wait staff friendly, clean space, lots of tables inside.

CBD serves up some of the best espresso I’ve ever had. This location in particular is modern and comfortable and has ample. I was so impressed with the lattes I had in the shop that I bought a bag of their main espresso blend to use in my machine at home, it’s also excellent, great flavor and crema. All in all clearly a place that cares deeply about the quality of their coffee.
