We booked this motel to stay up at OOB with family. It was one of the cheapest motels in town so we took the risk. Our expectations were pretty low as we just needed a place to sleep, and this place still disappointed. The office is difficult to get in contact with. It took multiple calls over a few “business” hours to talk with anyone. The room descriptions are very deceiving. We booked a double room. At any other hotel this means two beds and once we arrived we were booked into a single bed room for 3 people. They were not willing to accommodate our situation and the rooms are so small, we had to rearrange furniture just to create space on the floor for an air mattress. Our bed had sand in the sheets when we got there and old soap wrappers from previous tenants in the shower. The beach is somewhat in walking distance, but advertised to be closer than it really is. Overall, we spent as little time here as possible as it is non refundable and lacking simple comforts. If you are looking for a budget friendly stay I would recommend staying somewhere else that costs a little more, even if you are just looking for basic amenities

This place is subpar. I ended up leaving by 10:30 pm and drove home because the bed was so horrible. It was on wheels, moved around and was SO loud with every movement. The website says the cottage is "soundproof", I assure you it isn't. All I could hear was others in and out of their rooms, talking, car doors. I would not recommend and I'm disappointed I paid for a night and didn't even stay which also means I didn't enjoy the beach the next morning.

My room was disgusting times ten. Mold,dirt and stains. The stench was unbelievable. We left after 15 minutes. We went as a family group and rented three different rooms. We have photos supporting the filth and rooms were non refundable. I’m so sorry the owner passed away but this place needs to be shut down. Broken furniture,extension cords running from outside and a smoke detector in a nightstand drawer. Safety hazard.Feces under the sink and they left the keys in the door. Anyone could have been in there before we got in. Thank goodness we found a wonderful hotel on the ocean that the four of us moved into. Zero stars given!!!

We absolutely loved the cottage that we rented for the weekend in the beginning of August. It was clean, beautifully decorated, and had many amenities one would require. The privacy in the back of the cottage was stellar, and the hot tub was wonderful for soothing sore muscles after walking and swimming at the beach all day, only a few blocks away. The pool out front was great for a quick swim to cool off. We would recommend anyone that visits Old Orchid Beach to stay at Marvin Gardens, you will not be disappointed!

Just stayed at the end of the season. It’s a complete ripoff. The room is tiny and cramped. The cleaning was very questionable. No curtain on my window so anyone can peek in. There is never anybody at the front to help you and even if you call them with the number provided there’s only a 40% chance they actually answer.The worst part was you have to walk 10 min down the road to a gas station to use a microwave. I wanted to heat up a meal and I went to one of the front desk people asking for a microwave. I won’t say his name but he started freaking out when I asked him to heat up my meal. He said “it’s again state law to have microwaves in tiny rooms.”Conclusion: just go down the road to the oceanic inn. I stayed there after it’s cheaper, closer to the beach, nice friendly staff.

Not the place to stay. The rooms were very dirty and not nice at all. Had an extremely small and loud bed which woke me up every time I turned. The air conditioner was old and loud and also woke me up through the night. There was mold in our mini fridge. The sink was not attached to the counter. The parking was very tight. Tiny towels. Pool was dirty and not in a good location. More like a random room than hotel. Over priced for getting literally nothing. The only good things about this place is the location, the shower had two shower heads but was dirty, and the guy in the office was nice. Went to check out and no one was available. Wouldn’t recommend here.

Our room had no window blinds. So naturally, at five am, the sun was pouring in our room and we couldn’t sleep. There was no garbage bin in our room, nor our bathroom. Might sound a bit picky but women need to throw certain feminine hygiene products in the trash. There was a left over open soap bar in our shower along with someone else’s hair hanging off the shower head. The bathroom was full of what appeared to be fruit flies. And very little hot water in the shower. Felt like we were staying in a third world country. Can’t wait to go home!

The website is very misleading. There was no hot water in the shower when we sent a message to the manager she said she woul come in the morning. Very noisy had coffee but not cup sugar or creamer no shades on the windows we had to use our towels to cover the window. Ceiling fan light didn’t work. Bed most uncomfortable and the linen was very cheap.Stay away, from this place if at all possible

What a clean, well cared for place. We just wanted beds and a small fridge and our own bathroom! I was pleased to find everything clean to my standards.The owner was there every day that we stayed. Whether he was cleaning the pool or at the desk.You can tell he wants his guests to be happy and goes the extra mile for them.He also let me bring my small dog with us for the stay.We were close to the beach, we brought our own bikes so it was a quick jaunt there and back. A lovely stroll if we were so inclined as well.Thank you Miles!!

The small cabin was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Not enough outlets and when I used the toaster the fire alarm went off. Also our cabin, number 1 leans so bad that the sink doesn't drain properly. And when you sit on the toilet you lean back. Other than that we had a great stay.

Bad service!.. They allow pets for extra per night but they quickly call and smother you if your dog barks while you go out for dinner. Decided it wasn’t worth the hassle and had my parents bring the pup home with them. We were told we’d get the extra back per night since he went home... never got the refund! Sad thing is, this is where we got engaged.. visited same spot every year since 2014.. Then 2018 was awful and will never stay again! New management or something gone wrong! Not wroth the $$$$

The pool was amazing. The room was a bit overcrowded with 2 full size beds oddly placed in it, but was cozy and clean.A bit steep in price, but that's due to the dates we went. Would I stay there again? Absolutely!👍🏼⭐⭐⭐⭐

Not the best location, can be noisy, pricey during peak times. Staff was friendly and helpful. Close to beach and convenience store. Lots of shopping and restaurants near by. Pool close to some rooms and table with grill. Free WIFI but horrible service, Direct TV available but no service during thunderstorm. Small beds, was able to upgrade room after seeing the first tiny room that was booked, for more money of course. Pet was allowed for a fee per night. Not my first choice and using a third party booking site made for a difficult booking experience. Always call ahead to confirm your reservation!!! Ask questions before you go there!

.our room was VERY small but it was perfect for myself and my young daughter. really a room is just a place to rest up before you go out on your next adventure anyways right?also avput a 10 min walk from the beach/peir which is great as you can avoid the $15 + parking!!clean too. and the guy checking us in wad amazingly friendly.

Modest accommodations but very clean and quiet. Owner was friendly, helpful, and responsive to our needs. Off season rates seem to be a great value. King sized bed was scrupulously clean and very firm; too much so for my wife but I loved it.

The staff, from check-in to check-out, were very friendly, warm, and professional. The deluxe cottage that we booked was adorable. New jacuzzi, new amenities, clean, and cuter than the pictures online. It was a very relaxing and pleasant experience. We will be back!

The staff was nice and the room was fairly clean. 3 reasons why only a 3 star. For one there was a couple bugs kept making their way in. 2 the clicker for the tv worked when it wanted to. But my biggest issue was the water pressure in the shower. The thing barely spit out any water me being a man i usually shower in 2 mins there it took 15 so that really needs to get fixed!

We had a little cabin with an outside hot tub-it was clean and comfortable, great value for the price. The young man that checked us in was very nice, friendly and patient with us, we will stay here again, if we return to the area in the future.

Overall great place but really should have checked the sheets sooner. Pulled them down to discover a wrinkled pillow with 2 noticeable hairs on it as well as a few smaller curly hairs in the bed itself. I ended up sleeping on my towel with a second towel as a blanket :( friendly staff. Not sure if the maid service is actully changing out the bedding .

We had a great time ! The room was small but very clean. The owner very friendly and takes pride in keeping up with the maintenance of the motel. We will be back and plan on using the grill that is available.

So, we had booked this place online a few weeks back. We go there only to find out We had been overbooked; however , the hotel's owner went well above and beyond and not booked us at another place right next to the beach, but gave me back the difference in prices. He drove us to the place and handed us off to the owner of the new hotel himself.I've never seen someone go that out of their way to make sure their customers were happy. Kudos to this guy. Couldn't thank him enough.

I was scheduled to stay at this hotel during the upcoming weekend- hurricane Matthew decided to interrupt my stay. When sharing that my flight was cancelled due to a level 4 hurricane, owner offered two options: 1) stay in their hotel in the future (not a bad offer, but I have no connection to this area beyond business), or 2) pay $20. They actually are charging me for a hurricane taking place?

Great place. House keeping was on top of their game and the main people are amazing. Didn't give us a hard time at chk in or chk out. They had no one checking in when we chked out so they offered us to stay for the rest of the day so we could go to the ocean with the kids once more before leaving. When we return next year for vacation we will be staying here. Very pleasant.
