Beautiful rustic campground. Price ($24/person) was a bit high, but they do have available (free) canoes, kayaks, kid bikes, TV room, kid game room that would make this an exceptionally reasonable price in warmer weather. My husband fished right from our site #19 and we loved the view and quiet! Hosts are very nice and helpful, even gave my husband some bait worms!Nearby activities: Penobscot outdoor trails has a site a few miles away. Free use of bikes and great gravel trails.

Had a decent stay this past week. The river access was very peaceful and quiet and enjoyed kayaking and fishing. Store was very nice, bathrooms were quite dated. My kids enjoyed the game room but it was very disorganized, previous kids had trashed the place, and a squirrel was living inside it. The water smelled very strongly of sulphur and unpleasant to drink. The dump station had a communal tube you had to use, very gross.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Pine Grove campground and I must say it exceeded all my expectations.I stayed in the North Trail RV rental with my two 16 year old boys. This trailer was extremely clean and had plenty of space for all of us. The RV was stocked with everything we needed, including the best coffee I have had anywhere I’ve ever stayed. Outside the RV is a large outdoor space set back far enough from the other campsites that it felt very private. The campground amenities were top-notch, including very clean restroom facilities, a playground and a small camp store with essentials and some fun Maine themed gifts. It was evident that the campground staff took great pride in keeping everything in excellent condition. The highlight of my stay was the incredible natural scenery that surrounded me. The campground was a perfect escape from everyday life. Each morning, I woke up to birds singing, and sat by the river enjoying my coffee. The evenings were peaceful and illuminated by stars. The campground remained quiet to enjoy marshmallows by the fire with my family. It was an incredible experience. For outdoor enthusiasts, the activities available at Pine Grove Campground were plentiful. The campground is on the river and there are kayaks and canoes available. Hiking trails, biking routes, and fishing spots were all either right there or a short drive away. Whether I wanted an adventure or to simply unwind by the river there was something for everyone. If you stay here I highly recommend floating down the river on a tube!I also commend the campground staff for their exceptional hospitality and attentiveness. The owners and camp hosts were friendly. The owners clearly love this area of Maine and can recommend places nearby for whatever you are interested in doing. Their dedication to ensuring a memorable camping experience was evident. As an extra bonus, several days I stayed at the campground the owner shared homemade cinnamon rolls in the tv lounge.Overall, my time at Pine Grove was nothing short of extraordinary. I left feeling relaxed, connected to nature, and grateful for the memories I made. If you're seeking a perfect camping getaway, I recommend this campground. I am looking forward to coming back next summer.

We only write reviews when campgrounds are either exceptional or deficient in some way. Unfortunately this place did not meet our expectations. Overall this campground is average in our opinion. Nice location next to a river under large pine trees, and our power / water / sewer worked as advertised. Met the owners who were nice, In fact, when I asked if it would be alright to wash our small TOAD, he agreed, which is unusual in campgrounds. Facilities were average with a nice touch of a TV room with DVD's and even a coffee machine inside. While advertised as rustic, we felt the potholes in the main driveway were a bit too deep, especially when we saw a pile of gravel that had been sitting for awhile and could have easily been spread with the owners tractor in minutes. The campground wasn't extremely well kept with a few items just laying around in various campsites. Even though listed as "rustic", it could easily have been cleaned up somewhat. Having camped for 10 years and traveling tens of thousands of miles, we base our rating on our experience at other campgrounds. Two things people should be aware of are that the pine trees were dropping sap when we were there, and there were a lot of small bugs which occasionally drove us inside when the breeze stopped. These do not affect our rating, but are only listed so others are aware. Sadly, the reason for our low rating is because of our neighbor. We were located in middle of the campground next to the camp host. When we checked in the host told us we would be camping next to them and my reply was that she won't have any worries with us as "we are very quiet and you won't even know we're there". Without missing a beat, her immediate response was "well, we're not"! We pulled into our spot with her husband and his rock and roll music going. He shut it off within minutes and all was well. Unfortunately a day or so later it came back and lasted all afternoon and into the evening. As campers know, music is a gray area where we all have different opinions of what is tolerable and what is not. In this case, his speaker was appx. 15 from him and his noise level was such that he would only turn it down when his wife approached their site on her cell phone. Maybe that gives an idea of how loud it was. No, it didn't fill the campground, but none the less, it was loud enough to reach around to several sites. He would turn it up louder during parts of songs he presumably would like, then turn it back down to where it was just loud the rest of the time. The reason for giving this campground 2 stars is that both campground owners were walking back and forth during this time and should have had the wherewithal to tell him to either take his music inside, or turn it down. Some campers say if you can hear any music from anyone, it's too loud. We do not agree with that and have camped next to several throughout our years who have their music directly next to them where it can be heard, but is not offensive to others. This music was too loud! To the owners defense, we did not ask the host nor the owners to turn the music down. Had we done either, I am certain both would have apologized and had it turned down immediately. It was our last day, so we dealt with it and were gone early the next morning. Non the less, the owners need to be aware that as campers, we all share the same airspace and need to be considerate of others.

i stayed here for a few nights with my friend and her family, and it was a freaking blast! the river has a fast current, so it was a little tricky swimming but it was still fun lol. my friends parents rented an on site RV and my friend and i got a campsite. i think this was perfect bc we had lots of place to put things in the RV and hang out when it was raining. the on site places were great, there was a cute camp shop, with some t-shirt's, some supplies, and some gifts. there is also a small common room open 24 hours with a tv and coffee station and it's lovely. we went rafting one day, and that was good fun. there was a tiny bit of white water along with the fast current so it was quite fast :).i felt very safe and peaceful when i was there and it was overall an amazing few day, and i would go back in a heartbeat and do it again!!!Nearby activities: raftingWalkability: small campsite ofc it's walkableFood & drinks: store with food and drinks on site

Terribly slow satellite wi-fi. Disappointing, since I had hoped to get a little remote work done, but it was impossible to connect to a VPN, so no go. Verizon service is virtually non-existent (1 bar if you were lucky), so couldn't create a hotspot either. I heard from one camper that his AT&T cell was working fine though.Other than that, campground was lovely. Nice mix of retirees and some families. We paddled our boards a little way upstream - strong current, but nice. They have some canoes and kayaks to borrow and a small "beach" area (basically not super deep rocky area). Staff was friendly, and although bathroom had some plumbing issues, they addressed them promptly. They could stand to haul in some gravel to fill the giant holes/puddles in the camp road down by the water sites. It did rain a lot before we arrived, and some while we were here, so made it a bit muddy, but mostly one can walk around it.There is a TV room, but the internet is still terrible there. Couple of couches, some chairs, table, coffee pot, games, etc. Used it a couple times just to check emails and make a phone call or two (barely possible to make a phone call even service was so poor). Baxter SP is about 40 min drive from here, which was nice.

We have spent a week each summer for 3 or 4 years on a river front site at Pine Grove. The owners are wonderful, hardworking and very accommodating people. We especially enjoy that it is a peaceful and relaxing campground with swimming, fishing snd kayaking on the river. The bathrooms and showers are cleaned everyday. We have never had any complaints about anything.

Our hosts were amazing. Over-the-top accommodating. It was pretty rainy so I didn’t get to enjoy much of their outdoor space, but our two bedroom cabin was perfect for what we needed. The beds were super comfy. Plenty of space for two people. The location was perfect for anywhere we wanted to go. I especially enjoyed the beers in the lobby ;) 100% recommend this place.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay in the Mt. Kineo cottage. We were there for two nights, but wish we had planned to stay longer! The place is really well maintained. You can tell Katie and Jeff really care about the campground, and their guests. Katie brought a wheelbarrow of firewood right to our campsite when we arrived. There's lots to do in the campground. There's a beach area, kayaks and canoes, they have a TV lounge with movies and books you can use, and of course relaxing around a campfire. We had a great trip, and can't wait to come back!

Very peaceful and relaxing campground. Well maintained. I stayed in tent site 101 (w/electrical hookup) and it was very comfortable, peaceful, and serene. Great location for all sorts of outdoor activities. Campground has very comfy TV lounge open 24/7 with a large screen TV, couches, books and maps, and two coffee makers including a Keurig machine. Internet does not come in well -- wifi/phone data -- but probably adds to the peacefulness and full outdoor experience. Katie (one of the owners) was super nice, friendly, and hospitable.

Nice clean campground. Host is very accommodating. Clean bathrooms. Just as advertised. This is not wilderness camping, so you can hear lots of people, but everyone was respectful of 10pm quiet time. Affordable and a very nice place to rest between long hikes and bike rides. Definitely, I would recommend.

We were very tired and wanting to move on, but this campsite gave us the energy to stay a little longer. Water everywhere for us and the dogs to play in. Owners were very nice and close. Lots of options for campers, not crowded. Great showers and bathroom. Nice place to wash dishes. Awesome campground. Definitely recommend.

What a great gem nestled in the woods of Maine!! The owners, Katie and Jeff, are wonderful hosts and the accommodations were perfect! Our friends stayed in one of the cottages and we had a campsite on the river. Absolutely lovely! They even provide kayaks and canoes for free! What is even more amazing, they took time out of their busy schedule to prepare us a New England meal with lobsters!! Yum yum!! Thanks for the superb camping experience! We can’t wait to return!

Beautiful campsites (and cottages) on the river! The view was great, along with the eagles flying by daily, the crystal clear night sky, and the amount of smallmouth bass we caught!! Clean laundry and restroom facilities. We visited Baxter State Park, picked wild strawberries, seen 4 moose, and did the scenic drive...Route 11 I believe! I can't say enough about this place!! Maine at it's finest.

I happened upon this campground last week and stayed overnight with my kids. What a neat spot, really calm and peaceful. We went tubing the next day, and made it about an hour down the river before I punctured my tube (one I bought online for about $12) but it was fun while it lasted. Tent sites are mainly by the river and many of the other people had rv's - there was plenty of space between the sites though, not like some campgrounds we have been to in the southern part of the state. Would definitely recommend.

What a beautiful campground. The owners are so very nice and helpful. The little store has necessities and a few souvenir items along with local made souvenirs. Canoes and kayaks are provided for our enjoyment. We are really enjoying our view of the river. A perfect place for fun or relaxing.

Too many rules. No Wifi unless you're close to the main office. Cabins have carpets in them, and they allow pets, however there was a lot of dust in the cabins. Shower house floor and shower were not clean, they were dirty and there was a lot of hair around the drains. Owners had a well drilling operation begin on our second day of our stay. It was very loud all day. Had the owners had the courtesy of telling us this was going to take place, we would have picked a different place to stay. We took time off from work to take our family camping, and couldn't even enjoy one day of it.

We stayed for a weekend. The staff are new owners and working very hard to make this a nice place to stay. The CG is older, so the spots can be on the small side, so be aware of this when making your reservation. The river flows right beside the CG, so canoeing and floating is fantastic. The WiFi worked okay for satellite. We got 1 bar of Verizon 1G connectivity, occasionally, so understand that you're in the country. Nice tall trees too, so satellite might be hard to get, we didn't try. No broadcast TV reception. You come here to get away, not get wired. Even with the weekend crowd it wasn't loud. We'd stay here again for peace and quiet.

We stayed in this campground for a week. Wanted a location relatively close to the Togue Pond entrance to Baxter and to Katahdin Woods and Waters. Our first time camping in the area. Pine Grove Campground was attractive to us because it was smaller than several other campgrounds in the area. We chose a site next to the pond. The campground has electrical and water and a dump station. We discovered early on that we should have chosen a site at the campground on the Penobscot River as they tended to be a bit further apart and not so suited to large RVs and 5th wheels. The sites next to the pond tend to attract these large rigs - we are a small 15 foot teardrop camper and use a side tent. The camp sites are quite close together by the pond with no screening between so we ended up being "walled in" by much larger campers. The campground staff are friendly and the bath house is clean. There is only one shower for women and one for men though so timing is everything.

We absolutely love this campground. This is our 2nd year as a seasonal at this campground. Such a freindly quiet atmosphere. Love meeting new people that come and go into the campground. The river is beautiful and love to watch the eagles as they cruise the river hunting for food. The river is great for swimming, fishing, floating, kayaking and canoeing. The bathouse and all facilities are very clean. I would highly reccommend this campground the next time you are in the Maine Northwoods. The owners are very friendly and try in every way to accomodate people. It is our home away from home in the spring, summer and fall. We look forward to coming back next year.

We had a wonderful stay at Pine Grove Campground and Cottages. We had reservations to stay on a weekend in July. I actually had to change the reservations at the last minute from Thursday and Friday to Friday and Saturday. The owners were so accommodating. In addition, I did not have a good cell signal, so the owners allowed me to use the office phone to make a phone call. We had a great stay at this beautiful campground.

Katie and Jeff we can't thank you enough for your accommodation in letting us check into your campgrounds earlier then our planned dates, you both took a bad start to our vacation and turned it around to be completely positive, we both love the campgrounds and how peaceful and quite it is, we apologize for Nanook getting free and run around for a short time, thank God it ended positive. We only say wonderful things about our camping trips to your campgrounds. It's truly God's country and watching the eagles fly by we can't wait to come back and stay again. Your both very, very professional on how you run your business and how you treat your guest.Thank you bothRon and Polly HarveyTitan, Nanook

The owners are on site and are working to bring an old campground back to life. They were helpful and gave us a great campsite. The shower/bathroom facility was rustic and unheated but it got the job done. Wi-Fi worked some of the time at the campsite and most of the time if I walked to the office. The owners are gracious hosts and they plan on more improvements to the campground. I would stay here again. The price was fair for the location and amenities.

This the 3rd year we have spent at Pinegrove Campground. The last 2 years have been spent as a seasonal camper. We absolutely love this place. Quite camping on a gorgeous piece of the Penobscot River. Fishing, swimming, tubing, kayaking or canoeing. Potluck dinners with live music once a month. Oh, did I mention that Katie & Jeff are best host we have ever encountered at a campground. Come check out the Kathadin and Southern area. Adventures Await!

Great campground. Under new management that has done lots of sprucing up and repairs. Right on the river so you can swim or use a boat. Camp sites are roomy with lots of trees for shade. Hosts were friendly and helpful. Town with grocery store close by if you forgot something.

This is a picture postcard campground! Two adults, 27 ft travel trailer, and the owner gave us a choice of available sites. We chose a beautiful site on the East Penobscot river, with water and electric. Water, electric and sewer are available in equally pretty sites off the river, and there is a dump station. The bathouse was squeaky clean, with hot water. We used the laundry, too. Wifi is available in the cozy tv room, where there are comfy chairs and a large tv. The owners gave helpful advice about hiking, grocery and biking in the area. We stayed 4 nights, and didn't want to leave. Great hosts, thank you for making a great memory for us!
