This review is not about Dr. Benson, whom we hear many people love!We were recommended to contact Carrabassett Veterinary Services twice. The first time wasn’t great, but we hoped a second try would be worth it. We were wrong. Most recently we requested an appointment for our dog to be seen because there was something wrong with her paw/toenail that was causing her pain, and when we were finally able to speak with someone about requesting an appointment, the person on the phone was very rude, like we were wasting her time. We were told to wrap her paw if it was bleeding and that was it, no appointment was even offered. We will not be calling them for services again, and we will definitely NOT be recommending them to anyone! It’s truly unfortunate because they are the only vets local to our area, but I’d be willing to drive anywhere that treats us and our dog better than they do. Shame.

The vets at Carrabassett have taken great care of our dogs and cats. Compassionate and highly competent. I recommend this practice highly. We have three-legged English Cream who requires special attention.

I had a very good first-time experience. They helped me get my two dogs’ records from my old vets, which I had been unsuccessful doing, and the staff was warm and knowledgeable. They also advised me on a way to get money back on medications. Good place to bring pets.

They took great care of my 10 year old yellow lab. She had 12 growths removed. Since she was under anesthesia they recommended having her teeth cleaned as well. Even though I have Blue Cross Blue Shield for her the bill was way less than I expected. Very happy with my first time visiting them and Dr. Sean.

Had to call several times (more than 5) to get through. Left multiple messages asking for a call back saying yes they can help or no they can not help. Never called back, and when i did get through the secretary couldn't be bothered.I've heard things I didn't want to believe but they just proved it all.Do. Not. Waste. Your. Time. With this place

This is hands down the BEST veterinary place we have ever taken our dog. We have a 13 year old golden retriever who has been to at least 6 different offices in the course of her life. When she got a deep puncture wound while we were here on vacation they treated her with the latest, most advanced wound therapy treatment and saved her from needing to amputate a toe. Abby, the vet tech came in on her day off for the sole purpose of tending the wound. And this is for an animal that they know won't be around after summer for them to even have as a long term patient. We were astounded at the unbelievably low price they charged for surgery that included anesthesia, bandages and medicine on a WEEKEND. We would have easily had to pay over $1000 for this in New Jersey (honestly probably even more. My neighbor there had a similar situation with her Mastiff and it was $1500!). I won't say what Carrabassett vet charged because I'm sure it varies per procedure for them, but it was dirt cheap and I don't know how they even make any money. Not kidding. And wow is the staff knowlegable! Jenny really knows her meds and impressed us with the wealth of information she had on every med our dog is on. (and at 13 with arthritis, eye problems, skin allergies, etc. it's a LOT.) From supplements to suggestions for better, cheaper products that work better for tick and flea protection, to simple things like the best way to get her to take pills, she was super helpful and we are going to save even more money following her advice. They said they are always looking for ways to cut costs and use generics when possible, but only if they are sure the generic is as good as the brand name. That's important. Dr. Benson was the nicest, most gentle vet with her. What could have turned out to be a horrible experience they managed to save us from, and we are truly grateful and thrilled to have found this practice! I would never hesitate to board my dog there if we had an emergency. It's clean and the care they give is outstanding. You can tell how much they love animals. My dog RAN to Abby even with a bandaged up leg when we took her back for the dressing change. I wish I could give them ten stars!

What a wonderful place to board our precious puppy. Pinot had a great time, was well cared for, and we even got a report card detailing his activities and behavior. Would trust Jen, Claudia, (and Stig) any time with Pinot! Pinot says "arf," which we think means "thank you."

We brought our Dig dog to be euthanized, and Dr Benson was so gentle and calm. He did amazing it was a perfect peaceful experience for Dig and for us. They gave him a very dignified death. All the vet assistants were super friendly as well. If I could give them 10 stars I would. Thank you so so very much. The best vet we've ever been to.Also thank you Terry for clearing up some after thought questions, really made me feel better! Excellent service

I have absolutely loved my experiences with these folks and Dr. Shawn. They are kind and understanding. They had to deal with my big pain in the butt and he did great for his neutering and vaccines..... I love that they have a site where you can order your flea and tick and tick as well as heartworm meds, and not have to drive all the way in, (which is an hour for me) and they sell lupine collars and leashes, and it's a very comfortable atmosphere.... they have beautiful portraits of their pets and clients, and occasionally, you even get to meet those in the portraits!!

I have used both the veterinary services from Dr. Benson and the boarding services run by Jenny, and both have been really wonderful experiences for me and my dog. Dr. Benson is gentle and kind with my dog and always makes it a good experience for him. He explains everything really well and always takes as much time as is necessary to answer my questions. The services are very affordable and appropriate to my pet's needs. Jenny does a fantastic job on the kennel side. My dog has gone for day care and multi night visits. He has serious separation anxiety and Jenny goes above and beyond to spend time with him and monitor his needs. The kennel units are safe and clean, he always has water, and lots of treats! I am so happy knowing that my dog is safe and loved while I am away. Thank you guys so much!!

The folks at Carrabassett Veterinary are the sweetest and most caring team you could ask for. Jennie is incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtful and will give your dogs every bit of the attention they deserve. The vet is the friendliest I know in the whole of the Valley and beyond it. I am thoroughly impressed with the cutting edge techniques and procedures used in this unassuming mountainside clinic. Dr. "B" and his staff are deeply dedicated professionals who make both the pets and the owners comfortable. Their knowledge of medications, supplements, equipment and healing modalities rivals any we have experienced in the 13 years we owned our golden in "the big cities". We have finally found a kennel where we would feel confident leaving our "old lady", knowing how lovingly she will be cared for.

The Dr. and his staff, especially Jenny, have been the greatest. They have earned and deserve our gratitude and patronage when we are here. They accepted our dog whom we were afraid was having a seizure. As it turned out Dr Benson diagnosed his problem (correctly) as entirely something different, a diagnoses that our hometown vet(s) should of caught, but didn't!! And the bill was less than half of our hometown vet. Wish I could take the Dr and his staff back to Florida for at least the winter months!! Without having a set Vet for my dog and with covid making businesses limited I found myself at a loss when a barn cat ended up attacking my dog after she ran after it. (Yes, i never thought this would happen to my larger dog until i saw the cat latched onto her face) she wasn’t herself not eating, crying from pain and a very swollen ear and i could tell it was getting infected. I called over 10 vets and no one would be able to see her for an injury and thankfully Carrabassett Vet made the time. The manager was extremely helpful keeping in contact with me to see if the Dr was able to come in when they were closed, and thank goodness he did. Was able to catch the infection in time before surgery was needed and got the antibiotics and pain meds for her. I cant thank you enough for taking your own time out to help us and how compassionate and heartfelt you were for my girl!

Had an absolutely dreadful experience with this kennel. The kennel was filthy (dog feces not picked up. It stunk), there was no water available for my nearly eleven year old Lab and when I picked him up he had not been fed or watered and his cage had two piles of feces suggesting he had not been out for quite some time. If you like your animal I would urge you to find somewhere else to leave it. This place is horrible and, in my opinion, should be shut down. Luckily I brought a dog bed. They told me they had raised dog beds but they had nothing in my dogs pen when I dropped him. I was told he would put one in but when I picked my dog up that had not been done.I will be making a call to the State of Maine SPCA or animal refuge suggesting an unannounced visit and review. My guess is they will fail miserably.
