I'm rating this as a three star only because this island is very boring. The lighthouse and museum are beautiful if you are a lighthouse lover but the island itself is very bleak. There is only two main attractions on this island. The lighthouse and John Travolta's house. The island feels very empty for such a large island. Eleven miles of nothing. There are shops around the island. One gift shop, an ice cream shop and maybe a couple others but everything is spread out around the eleven miles. John Travolta's house is very hidden on several back roads. You can drive up to his gate and take some really nice photos. Just google his address and it pops up. He dosent keep it secret. There's also tons of beaches around the island and thankfully you can bring your car on the ferry for an additional cost. If you want to go to any of the places they actually do have on the island make sure to go during the summer so they are open. When you get off the ferry there is a hot dog stand, which is really good quality and a smart business move having it directly next to the ferry. The lighthouse and museum is directly at the ferry, you won't miss it. While the island itself is boring its still a beautiful island and the lighthouse is stunning. The museum is fun when they are open, you can learn a lot about the lighthouse.Others may enjoy this island. It's very secluded but just too big of an island for me with little to do. The lighthouse and museum I definitely recommend. There are air bnb's on the island but no hotels. There is only one restaurant on the island other than the hot dog stand, the restaurant is called loonys luscious foods, it's probably a few miles away from the dock.Overall, 3 stars. <3

Highly recommend!!! It's a lighthouse you can go into. Great for pictures and learning about local history. Favorite lighthouse in the area.

Took the ferry over and got to climb up to the top of this little lighthouse. Wonderfully friendly lady on hand operating the museum.

this would be the very place(the lighthouse itself) that my great great grandfather was the light keeper and also once the landowner of land the lighthouse was built on. his name was Francis Stuart Grindle. i think he was the second keeper that was given the responsibilty.said to be seen to still roam the insides of its walls as if to still be performing his duty.one day i will visit this beautiful spot and possibly conjure up a little family reunion. i gave it 5 stars because any where in my home state only deserves the best no matter where you go.

This is the only thing you can explore within walking distance of the Islesboro ferry. Hit up the Sand Castle for drinks and food after. The tiny museum is worth your time. It's sleepy, quaint, and preserves that feeling of coastal Maine I see now only in paintings at the Farnsworth. It has a haunted feel, especially in the passage to the tower. Once up in the tower, the view of Penobscot Bay is worth enduring the ghosts! Bit of a tricky climb for some folks, so be careful. Please go, and don't forget to make a donation!!!

Always a nice boat ride from Belfast. Nice little snack shack, and climbing the lighthouse and visiting the museum well worth the visit.

Absolutely not worth the trip of $40 for a car and passenger to find the museum closed and NOTHING on this island. Tourist trap
