Maine Wildlife Park is a great, affordable spot for a family day trip or a date. The signage in the park has a nostalgic summer-camp charm, and the gift shop has affordable trinkets for all ages. Seeing animals that would be native to the area is a delightful change from your typical zoo experience. It’s also comforting to know that the animals kept here are not stolen fromtheir natural habitats, they are animals that would otherwise not survive in the wild due to injury etc. I was also pleased to see that the park wasn’t overcrowded even on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Plenty of space for everyone, no need to wait an hour to get a decent view of the exhibits. I highly recommend visiting this place!

Surprisingly nice little place in our little town. Rainy days are the best as the animals are so lively! There is also a list of the animals, their names, age, and why they’re there which I think it’s a unique added aspect. The enclosures are decent sizes except the turtles in the showcases near the bathrooms. Those are not acceptable. The turtles are only there for in season but stay in there day & night. They are surely miserable.. The enclosures are kept natural which is different and I think a great benefit for the animals. A lot of their animals are opportunistic so it’s nice to see them in more natural environments. One of the mountain lions even chased a chipmunk while we were there! (Video attached)There is a large dirt parking lot with ample parking. No pets allowed, of course. They are also cash only and offer veteran discounts. It’s $10 for adult entry and $5 for veteran. I am unsure about kids or other discounts. There is an ATM right outside the entry gate. Inside the park is a bathroom, snack shack with basic snacks like ice cream, chips, granola bars, water bottles, etc. Occasionally they serve basic sandwiches. (PB&J, Turkey & cheese, etc), and a gift shop. Staff is always pleasant. Grounds are always clean and animals always look well fed and engaged. They also released Big Al! Yay!

Me, my husband and mom visited here this past weekend, we had a wonderful time. My main reason was to see the moose since I've never seen one in person before and he was so cute! We went when they opened so it wasn't to busy, by the time we left there was a decent amount of people with kids having parties. Its definitely a nice and cheap place to visit if your in the area. A decent amount of rare animas to see to, very clean property.

Wow, this exceeded expectations. We visited in the rain and it was so much fun! Everything is outside with the exception of a few exhibits. The park is very clean and well kept. There are picnic tables and a small store with treats. The staff was very friendly and able to answer questions. Bathrooms were also very clean. The enclosures we very nice and clean. We even had a deer walk right up to the fence to say hi and the Moose was very close. Friendly place to visit for all ages, especially little kids. This is the best facility we’ve visited. Can’t wait to go back during our next visit to ME!

We went here because we wanted to see a moose. Byron the Moose did not disappoint... except for the fact he wouldn't stand up ..just preferred to sit and sleep. Bears, cats and birds were cool. The staff was very friendly, especially the woman at the ticket booth. Be sure to bring cash. They have an ATM available. They don't take credit cards. An enjoyable walk through the grounds looking at animals.

It's a beautiful park area with nice facilities supporting education and families with small children. However, as of this date, many exhibits are uninhabited. Many trails are cut off for development or reconstruction.I recommend going early when it's cooler for a better chance to see the animals. There is a snack bar, but it's mostly candy and ice cream. Take a picnic instead.

Finally made it here on Juneteenth. As a public holiday in the summer, this meant that the toddler to adult ratio was very high. I could see that if you bring little kids, it could take a while to get through, but for adults it took us less than an hour. But for $10 a ticket, it still seems worthwhile. Also note that during the day at is pretty likely that a lot of animals are sleepy or actually sleeping. Many of the lynx were passed out or sleeping and hiding. It’s cool to be able to see actual Maine wildlife. I was less enthused by the stuffed versions of the animals lingering not terribly far from the live ones, what must they be thinking if they can see their deceased compatriots? I had also imagined that this was kind of a sanctuary, but there are no introductions as to where the animals came from or what their situation is, that would be a nice addition, so to make it feel less zoo-like.

A lot of the cages were unoccupied at the little mammals area. We were starting to think it was being a waste of time when we arrived to the bobcat and linx area and we could start to see real animals. The bald eagle was awesome and we were lucky to see it being fed.Bears were changing fur and it was a hot day, but they had a pond in their place to refresh. The visit was worthy when we saw a magnificent moose really close to us.We finally enjoyed the visit despite we thought we wouldn't at the beginning.

This was amazing thanks for a great day. I grew up in Seattle. Home of famous woodland park zoo. I have high standards for animal care and habitat. This was great and enjoyable to see the happy healthy animals of Maine. Thank you again. Very handicapped friendly. My clients lived it.

This is a great spot for people of all ages. The zoo is easily navigated and has a moose. I've never seen one before and was really excited to finally get to. Some of the smaller enclosures didn't seem to be ideal for the animals, but you have to appreciate the state of Maine caring for animals that would not make it out in the wild. I highly recommend checking this place out.

This unique zoo focuses on Maines inland wildlife, including moose, bears, foxes, flying squirrels and eagles. It’s a beautiful campus not too far from Portland. Most of the animals are shy by nature and many are largely nocturnal, so be prepared for them to be hiding well away from camera lenses. Still worth the visit.

A great place both to visit and in its purpose and practice. Here you will see many wildlife species you might have heard live around New England but might not have actually seen. Bird and mammals are big highlights, but there are many other features of this park that make it a good day trip to familiarize yourself with your local wildlife.

This rescue only wildlife park was beautifully set under beautiful old evergreen trees. The animals seemed to be well fed and relaxing in their habits which was very nice to see. Other visitors and staff were polite and mindful. The breadth of animals represented was impressive for a non-zoo. The gift shop was well thought out and the snack shack and pressed penny machine are a nice touch. Please note it's cash only and gravel trails are best traversed in tennis shoes, but the balance of shade and sun make this a relaxing experience for the outdoors. Byron the moose is impressive to see and we were able to catch some of the other fur beebs at lunch time, which made it a really interesting time! I hope to visit again soon and see what other animals they are able to save! Thanks for all you do!!

We brought three kids 1, 2, and 3 years old. They loved it! The picnic area was really nice. Many of the animals were hiding or sleeping because it was hot. Walking all the way to the fish thing wasn't really worth it just because it's so far just to see a kinda weird bowl of fish.

Great way to kill 2-3 hours, for a fantastic price. Everyone on site was very friendly and helpful. We were here in mid october so a couple of the exhibits were closed due to the season but everyone else showed up! I only had one suggestion to staff, and that is to let you know in the park before the long walk to the bottom of the fish ladder that you need quarters to feed the fish. Our daughter loved this part and we didn't have enough with us. Other than that, bring your quarters and have fun!

Always so much fun! Animals are very well taken care of; always seeing volunteers and employees maintaining the habitats and grounds. The fish were so much fun to feed and watch! Clean restrooms, fun gift shop and plenty of places to break for lunch! Be sure to check out the white deer that is there, very beautiful.

A Thoughtful and Conservation-Focused Experience at Maine Wildlife Park. Our visit to the Maine Wildlife Park left us thoroughly impressed with the park's dedication to animal welfare and conservation. It was a clean and well-organized park that undoubtedly prioritizes the animals' well-being.One aspect that stood out to us was the park's commitment to putting the animals' comfort first. We appreciated the clear signs reminding guests that the animals' needs come before our own. It was evident that the park's mission is not to entertain consumers with captive animals, but rather to provide a safe haven for injured or sick wildlife, ensuring they are rehabilitated and cared for with the utmost compassion.Although some exhibits might have been unoccupied due to this noble approach, we fully support the park's stance on animal conservation. It is essential to prioritize the well-being of these beautiful creatures over mere human entertainment. The admission price of $10 per person was reasonable and well worth it, knowing that our contribution goes towards supporting the park's conservation efforts. It's important to note that the park operates on a cash-only basis, but the presence of an ATM on-site made it convenient for visitors. While the snack shack's offerings were a bit lacking, it did not dampen our overall experience. After all, the primary focus of our visit was to connect with and appreciate the wildlife, not just indulge in snacks. The park's efforts in maintaining a clean and well-groomed environment were commendable. The abundance of garden wildlife that provided a habitat for pollinators not only added to the park's beauty but also showcased its functionality in supporting local ecosystems.Overall, our day at the Maine Wildlife Park was not only enjoyable but also heartening. We left with a sense of fulfillment, knowing that our visit contributed to the well-being and conservation of the animals we encountered. We highly recommend this park to families and individuals who value animal welfare and are eager to support crucial conservation efforts.

On our vacation to Maine, I HAD to see a moose. I knew that it may not be a possibility since we were only going to be staying a short period of time. I settled for coming to the Maine Wildlife Park, and did not quite know what to expect. It was a Tuesday morning, and it was hopping! Parents were wheeling their kids all around the park. I didn't know until later that it was still summer break around Grey. We got there a little past ten, and it seemed like they had recently feed the animals because most of them were exhausted. They just laid around snoozing. It was still a great experience for a tourist getting to see the wildlife around the area. I saw many cute animals -- a beaver, fisher, turtles, dear, black bears, and last but not least a MOOSE! It was a fun experience and really contributed to the overall experience of our vacation. For $10 a person, we were very glad we made this stop before going to shop in the outlets of Freeport!

This place is a tremendous find! We paid $10 each to get in and were up CLOSE to Byron their bull moose and their 2 black bears. They have wolves, beaver, a fisher cat, lynx and big cats, owls, eagles, turtles, deer, snakes, peacocks, and turkeys! You're able to go at your own pace and volunteer docents are available to provide personalized information. It's obvious that everyone there really enjoys what they do, and the wildlife are well kept. I'm sure they would prefer to be outside of cages, but as a sanctuary the animals are primarily rescues that can't safely be let back into the wild, so this is the next best thing. We loved our time there.
