I adopted my beautiful girl in 2017. I have volunteered at Seymour's ever since. I have learned so much around proper care, diet, and enrichment. It's a challenge to emulate such a high standard with my own flock, but they are worth it. It is a blessing to have Seymours.

I have volunteered here since 2015.If the owner is stressed occasionally believe me she has her hands full in more ways then you can imagine. Her devotion to these birds to do everything one person can do to keep the doors open and her fierce protection of injured and abused birds is a very good thing in this world.

I'm really disappointed by the negative experience I had with Seymour's Bird Rescue. Upon first impression, the owner was lovely. She spent over a half hour with me over the phone, addressing my many concerns about surrendering the two birds I have been fostering for the past several years. I had a good feeling after speaking with her because surrendering them was a very difficult, emotional decision for me and she took the time to answer my questions and put me at ease. She said she should be able to take them before we left for vacation (several weeks later in August) and to call her and follow up the next Wednesday. On that Wednesday, I called and left a message since there was no answer; I never received a call back, so waited a week with no word and tried again the following Wednesday. I was finally able to reach the woman I spoke to the 2 weeks prior. She was considerably less patient with me and stated she could no longer take them before the 8th (the date we were supposed to leave for our trip), but she could take them on that date. I chose to shorten my vacation by a day to bring the birds to her that day. I confirmed with her before I hung up that I could bring them on Tuesday, August 8th and she said yes, but that the time had to be after 12:00pm.The following Monday, I called and left a voicemail to confirm our scheduled meetup the next day on Tuesday the 8th, since I knew the store was closed Tuesdays. I assumed someone would be checking voicemails Mondays and Tuesdays despite them being closed and that someone would be checking on the existing birds, even if they were closed to the public. Again, I didn't receive a call back, so assumed no news was good news.I drove 2 hours to Cumberland, Maine (in severe thunderstorms with flooding on roads I needed to travel on) to find the place locked up tight. I arrived at 1:30p. No one was in sight. I should have prefaced that one of the main reasons for me surrendering these birds was not because they were not loved or wanted. I have a special needs child with multiple serious diagnoses and it's very stressful; having the birds adds so much to my anxiety because I'm always worried about their health. I feel another home would be better for them but as I said before, this was a very hard decision for me because I'm attached to them.I sat in the parking lot for a while, trying to call yet again, I also emailed the address on the website and sent a facebook message. All of which were ignored.I brought the birds to my friend's house for the night and drove home, a mess. I called and left another voicemail, upset because I didn't know what had happened but there was a miscommunication and I was just terribly distraught about leaving them. The plan was going to be that my friend would bring them to her the next day, since he lived so close to her shop. After sleeping on it, I decided that if she didn't have the curtesy to return one of my many messages, that I wouldn't be comfortable leaving my birds with her. Over the night/next day, I never once heard from her. I ended up having to drive back the next day (Wednesday the 9th) and pick them up at my friend's house with my own car, which was never part of the plan (since I was planning vacation with my family in one car). This was not only a huge inconvenience, but a waste of gas, 4 hours of time driving and lots of emotion. This cut our vacation short and I ended up bringing them back home with me until I could find a place that I knew would take the best care of them.I would advise against surrendering animals here. This was a terrible experience and I've yet to hear from this person via phone, email or FB message. If she didn't want to deal with me or wasn't able to take the birds, she could have simply left me a message explaining that it wasn't going to work on her end, rather than stringing me along for weeks.

The birds that have been surrendered here are not being properly cared for, yet the owner continues to collect more. Please consider another option when purchasing items for your parrot, and look elsewhere for rehoming.

It was a quaint little shop dedicated to all things birds. They had a good assortment of bird toys, including some assemble-your-own, and lots of bird feed option. But it's not the place you go for a cheap deal, but rather to get guidance from the staff and have as product selection that is curated by avid bird owners that care about the animals. They do have birds, but I did not inquire on adoption details as I didn't need another one. If you want some bird care opinions and guidance, great place to stop, chat, and pick up some supplies.

We visited while doing research on adopting a bird. Kind and very helpful advice! There are so many unwanted birds that are very lucky to end up at Seymour's. It's a blessing we have a place like this in Maine!

Andrea is a bird whisperer. She is very knowledgeable about everything related to all species of exotic birds and is very willing to share her expertise. Yet she is practical and understanding. The shop offers the most excellent selection of toys and food in the state. Plus, Andrea will search for that special treat if she doesn’t stock it.

I was so excited to learn about this place, and waited through the last months of the pandemic to safely go here and support a local business (AND rescue!) for seed and supplies, but I unfortunately had a terrible experience here. :(A friend and I stopped in to check it out and pick up some bird food, and we were looking in one of the cages at one of the rescued African Grays. Not touching the cage or anything-- just looking. I noticed he was having a hard time hopping over to a different branch in his cage, and he stumbled/slid a bit and I said to my friend, "Oh no, poor guy." Suddenly this woman (presumably the owner/an employee) comes tearing across the store and shouts "No!" at us, physically inserts herself between us and the bird cage, and then another employee came out and started roping off the area. We were given no explanation by the woman who yelled at us, or any other employee, and there were no signs or roped off areas when we came in indicating we were doing anything wrong. We understand having an animal's best interests at heart, and it's something we have at heart too, but the way she addressed us was fairly aggressive and accusatory... I'm not sure if she thought we somehow caused the bird to stumble and that's why she yelled at us, but if she just asked us to step back or told us we were in a spot we shouldn't be or something we would've gladly listened. The hostility we felt from that situation was enough that we felt we should leave the store. No employees said anything, either, everyone just stood there silent and watched us leave. I've never experienced anything like that, where someone just shouts "No!" without any follow-up explanation or apology whatsoever... it was just strange, off-putting, and uncomfortable.A huge disappointment for a place I really, REALLY was excited to support. Anyways, back to buying chain store bird seed rather than risk another unpleasant visit here.

What a lovely place! I just adopted my green cheek conure there today and couldn’t wait to write a great review lol! The owner obviously cares about the birds and wants to make sure they’re going to a good home. She was so helpful with any questions I had. My bird is so sweet and you can tell he got lots of love and care while he was there! Thank you so much!!

first I want to say thank you for all they do there Seymores is so clean and you can tell within 2 minutes of being there that no matter how they got there that each individual parrot is loved and cared for. the the owner of seymores and volunteers are so knowledgeable and helped me out with loads of questions and never felt rushed I learned so much and got introduced to all their beautiful residents and you can tell by the way these parrots react to her that she spends time and makes sure that every one in their feels love care and friendship what they do is amazing especially when most when they arrive prob didn't come from the most happiest of circumstances I wished there wasn't a need for these places but unfortunately there is but seymores is ran amazingly and should be an example of how these places should be run to other places around the US

Owned by people who care for and love not just their own birds, but everyone's! The woman I spoke with for an hour was a wealth of knowledge and had TONS of great recommendations not just on products, but on how to better my birds life as well as my relationship with it! Will DEFINITELY be going back and recommending to others!

Incredible place. Bird whisperer that saves birds that are no longer able to live in their homes for what ever reason. Highly recommend making a donation to keep this place running. If you are thinking of owning a bird. Consider adoption.
