I haven't had the pleasure of staying overnight at the historic Pentagoet Inn, but as an area local I would like to plug both their bar and restaurant, as well as the series of wonderful events they host throughout the year. These range from benefit dinners for local organizations to community events like a Halloween pot-luck, Easter-egg hunt, trivia night, weekly jazz evenings, baking and singing classes, and themed brunches - among others! As a local I am so grateful for their consistent engagement, especially in the long off-season. More than just a summer hotel, the Pentagoet is a lynchpin of the Castine community all year round. In addition to all this, Matt Powell and George Trinovitch have cultivated relationships with local-area farmers and bakers, ensuring their culinary offerings are both fresh and locally-sourced. Their bar (the area with which I have the most personal experience!) is charming and cozy, and features fine wines plus a selection of classic cocktails as well as rotating special cocktails by a professional mixologist which are always a treat. If you want a classy night out in Castine it's definitely the place to be. The cheese plate is also to die for.The most recent event I attended was their drag brunch with the Delicious Drag Divas troop from Bangor, which was both delicious and also a raucous good time. It was the most fun that's been had in Castine in recent memory! I am incredibly grateful for their support of the LGBT+ community and always feel safe and welcomed by both the hosts and staff, which is not always a guarantee at rural venues. The Pentagoet has been a Castine institution since the 1800s, and I feel that it is in the best possible hands going forward. Well worth a visit.

The Pentagöet is avoidable at best, important to steer clear of at worst. It is evident both owners do not care about their customers and do not understand hospitality or customer service. Not receptive to feedback and certainly do not care about their guests. Will not return, and hope new owners show up quick as this Inn is beautiful but mismanaged.

Visit the Pentagoet and experience the outstanding charm and hospitality of this lovely inn on the coast. The views are unbeatable, the menus are delicious and the staff are so lovely. I can’t wait to come back. This little village is a wonderful, welcoming community and just so darn picturesque. This is no chain hotel!! You will be wrapped up in the history and charm of an authentic landmark on the Maine coast. 10/10Walkability: Perfect location, steps to the water, brunch spots, a lighthouse, and cute little shops.Food & drinks: The pub is THE spot on the coast for a vintage, nautical respite after a fun day walking around the town. And dinner was delicious and romantic. You really feel like you’re in the golden age of travel.Noteworthy details: The first floor is stunning with historic charm. The entire inn has books and crannies with antiques, old photographs, and great views! It’s transporting!

At the end of the 2023 season, we were able to make a one night reservation at the last minute. The Inn did not disappoint! The owners were warm and welcoming, and we enjoyed our stay immensely. There was a slight hiccup with our bill, and in the end it was over-corrected, so that we owed the Inn for oysters and drinks. The Inn refused to let us pay the money back! Castine is a charming seaside town. Our only disappointment was the lack of fall foliage in October :-)

Wife and I stayed at this Inn during the drop off weekend for Maine Maritime Academy recently. 100%, the owners have created a very welcoming and refined experience. Room was excellent, convenience and access was great, food was very good and the general atmosphere was right on queue. You know a place is good when the conversation between those staying there is free and easy. Everyone was friendly. We will be back.

I cannot say enough about our recent stay at the Pentagoet Inn. My husband and I had the pleasure of staying two nights in a very charming and spotless room. The bed was super comfortable, and the bedding, high quality. I'm not sure how it's possible to have an establishment with so many professional and caring people on staff but everyone we ran into was super helpful and accommodating. The food was absolutely superb. Everything we tasted was a cut above the norm and we were definitely well fed from the delicious dinners to the hardy breakfasts.I cannot emphasize enough the care that Matt, George, and their team showed to us during our stay. We look forward to another Pentagoet experience in the future so we can experience that old world charm again. With gratitude.Noteworthy details: Make dinner reservations early. The food is loved by locals as well as guests. Not surprising!

We had such a wonderful authentic stay at the Inn and can’t wait to return. We felt connected to the history of this small seaside town and enjoyed coming back to the Pentagoet each night after our day trips out hiking and exploring neighboring towns. Delicious meals and desserts! Great beverage selection at dinner and the cherry on top was the innkeepers and staff were so welcoming and helpful in every way 10 out of 10 recommend a few nights here with day trips to Belfast/Camden/MDI.Rooms: Bed was so comfortable, great water pressure is always a plus the room was just lovely.Food & drinks: Large selection of menu items! It was so impressive to see their dinner service at the inn. We loved the cozy pub and a candlelit dinner with live piano music, a night to remember!

I had my rehearsal dinner here and it was a lovely experience! All my guests raved about the food, venue, and service. Matt and George were excellent throughout the whole process answering any questions we had and accommodating any special requests. They even made a customized menu for us! We look forward to revisiting the Pentagoet every time we visit Castine!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! Owners, Matt and George, are dedicated to making their guests feel welcome and taken care of. My second floor room (4) was large and cozy with lots of light. I awoke to fresh coffee available on a credenza outside my door! What a treat! The hot breakfast was expertly prepared, the most delicious blueberry souffle French toast!! Sausage, home fries, fruit, yogurt and granola rounded out a satisfying meal. In the evening I enjoyed smoked mackerel and a farm fresh salad in the charming pub space. The food was excellent and Haley took great care to provide me with personal service. The entire inn is warm and inviting and is a brief walk to local shops and the water. I loved walking around peaceful Castine and reading all the history which is posted throughout town. I had great conversations with other guests and staff. The Pentagoet Inn is a good home base to explore Blue Hill, Bar Harbor and other coastal areas. I look forward to my next visit and bringing friends and family! Thank you to all the staff for a memorable stay!

In a cute corner of Maine sits this adorable castle, The Pentagoet. You feel like you’ve stepped back in time and into a new world as each room at the inn is filled with character and detail. Mister’s pub, where you can grab drinks or dinner most evenings, is a gem but my favorite room was the piano room with all sorts of reading nooks. Breakfast did not disappoint with a delicious new dish option each day. The live music nights were fun to be at, with the choice of porch or indoor seating from both of which you could easily enjoy the performers. I didn’t get a chance to check out Arcadia Park which is about a hour from the Inn, but will definitely next time. With only one year of ownership, Matt and George have done so much to make this place a welcoming spot you should not miss!

We came here for a friend group reunion and had such a blast. The town is adorable and staying at the Pentagoet felt like traveling back in time. So much history. The new owners are AMAZING and the food was delicious, we ate dinner there twice and had delicious hot breakfast every morning (included). The beds are also super comfy. It's worth the trek!!Rooms: Spacious and quiet.Nearby activities: Do the free town walking tour if you can!Walkability: The town is quite small, you are right on the Main Street with a cafe and a few shops nearby.

Upon arrival until the day we left the service was so welcoming and attentive. The breakfast was outstanding, and the entire atmosphere of the Inn surrounds you with coziness and a little trip back to time. The rooms were clean and comfortable, coffee ready outside the door in the morning, and there is a sweet little garden to sit outside or under the covered porch.Mathew, George and the Crew really have made Castine that much more of a great place to visit, cant wait to go back!Rooms: Comfortable, clean, charming. Provided a cot for my daughter to be able to stay in. She slept great!Walkability: Right at the top of the hill from all the little shops Castine has to offer. The port is right at the bottom of the hill as well. There is a museum you can easily walk to down the sweetest neighborhood along with a light house that can be visited.Food & drinks: Well designed menus, and delisious meals.

Delicious food with a great view. We had the best table on the front porch so you could see the quaint village. We felt a little like they forgot about us a few times but they eventually took good care of us. We just had dinner there, didn't stay in a room.Food & drinks: Great! Didn't have a lot of vegan options but I made do with appetizers.

My husband and I had two nights at the Pentagoet Inn. It is a beautiful historic hotel, very well located, with a wonderful wrap around porch/deck. Unfortunately, the two days we were there, the restaurant was not open, but we heard from others that the food was very good! The staff was wonderful, and went beyond expectations. We highly recommend the Pentagoet Inn!Nearby activities: We were very close to interesting shops and small museums. Also to the waterfront and to "kayaking."Walkability: The Inn is very close to the "downtown" area of Castine. Easy walking distance. Also to the beautiful neighborhood around the Inn, including a small museum.

If you are looking for a relaxing, rejuvenating vacation in coastal Maine, the Pentagoet in Castine is a sure thing! My husband and I stayed for a week and loved every minute of it. The historic inn is being lovingly restored by its new owners, Matt and George, who are intent on being true to the history of the inn and its role in the town. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed as friends and treated like special guests. Our room (Room 1) overlooked the main street and harbor and we loved sitting in the window seating area feeling the cool sea breezes and enjoying the beautiful views. Every morning began with coffee from the coffee station a few steps from our room and then a delicious homemade breakfast. After a day exploring picturesque Castine - its forts, museum, lighthouse, hiking trails through a woodland preserve, and water views galore - we would return to the Pentagoet and enjoy a delicious supper in Mister's Pub or the dining room. Matt and George and their staff are first-rate hosts, always on hand to make sure things are running smoothly and eager to make sure everyone is comfortable and enjoying themselves. We can't wait to return!

My partners and I recently stayed at the Pentagoet Inn during Bastille Day Weekend, and we had a wonderful experience. The inn is located in the charming town of Castine, Maine, which is a perfect location for day tips to Bangor, Ellsworth, Acadia National Park, and Bar Harbor. The inn itself is a beautiful Victorian building with a wraparound porch and a lovely garden. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a king-size bed and a fireplace! The staff at the inn, including Matt and George, were friendly and great hosts. They were happy to give us recommendations for restaurants and activities in the area. We especially enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, which was served in the inn's dining room. The food was delicious and fresh, and there was plenty of variety to choose from.We also enjoyed our meals at the inn's restaurant, Mister's Pub. The food was creative and delicious, and the service was excellent. We especially enjoyed the lobster pot pie, which was one of the best we've ever had.In addition to the beautiful inn and the excellent food, Castine is a great town to explore. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and historical sites to see. We did a kayaking tour and walked the area to take in the beautiful environment and historic seaside homes.Overall, we had a wonderful stay at the Pentagoet Inn. It's a great place to stay if you're looking for a charming inn in a beautiful location.

We spent two nights at the Pentagoet Inn and couldn’t be more pleased with our experience. We arrived at 6:30pm after a long day of travel and sightseeing and Matt greeted us in the lobby as we walked in. He had saved a table for us and the other couple we were traveling with so that we were sure to have dinner if we hadn’t already done so. There’re was live jazz music playing on the veranda. Many guests were enjoying food and drinks inside and outside the Inn. I had a refreshing signature vodka cocktail with muddled blueberries, created by Matt. I also enjoyed a delicious farro and kale salad, topped with feta and blueberries. So fresh and tasty! The self-serve breakfast the next morning was equally tasty, consisting of egg stratas, house-made muffins, yogurt and house made granola along with fresh fruit. Coffee was delivered to a hallway table outside our room at 7:30am.The king-size bed was very comfortable and even though our room was on the street corner of the house, it was quiet and we rested well.We did a day trip to Brooklin and visited the Wooden Boat School. Matt was generous with his tips on where to eat lunch or pick up fixings for a charcuterie picnic. We enjoyed drinks in the pub on our second evening and loved having the chance to chat with Matt and George about the restorations they have done so far and plans for additional enhancements to this historic building this coming winter. The Pentagoet Inn and Castine are truly a slice of heaven on the Maine coast. Don’t hesitate to treat yourself to these beautiful and relaxing accommodations! We hope to return for a longer stay and more exploring of this picturesque area.

My stay at the Pentagoet Inn was incredible! It felt like a fairytale. I stayed in room 9, which for an inn that is more than 200 years, was huge. The bed was comfortable and the shower pressure was incredible! The breakfast was delicious and we also ate dinner at the hotel! The lobster pot pie will haunt me in my dreams because it was that good! Finally, the best part of the Inn are the two owners Matt and George. They made us feel like guests in their house. And if you’re a history nerd ask Matt to share with you the history of the inn. It’s truly remarkable. I can’t wait to return.Rooms: The rooms are cute and cozy. The bed in room 9 was so comfortable!Food & drinks: The lobster pot pie and the pate were our favorite. The shrimp’s cocktail sauce was the perfect level of spice. We also got a couple of drinks that were delicious. Overall it was a perfect date dinner. The breakfast was also delicious.

Classic and Comfortable, ckean and well appointed.Walkability: Easy to walk to everything in town. My husband and I enjoyed two nights at the Pentagoet this October and had the time of our lives. Matt was the epitome of THE outstanding host! This lovely home was the highlight of our travels, including the most delicious dinner ever in their delightful dining room, and a trio jazz band that was awesome! Our room was beautifully appointed with the most yummy comfortable bed, and a view of the sea. We fell in love with Castine, and everyone on board the Pentagoet. We will definitely be back - hoping it's real soon. A MUST STAY B&B in Maine!! Thank you, Matt, for being the most wonderful host and beautiful person to boot :)

Sure, you could quibble with some of the details but there is no denying that the Pentagoet Inn & Wine Bar is a valuable contribution to the Castine area. The owners have done an amazing job renovating the common areas to the point where it feels like you are staying in a Victorian/Edwardian era inn. Highlights include the breakfast (included), the bar, the dinner service and the wrap around porch. Staff was friendly and helpful. A two night stay was just about enough, not sure a longer stay would be as pleasant. The room we stayed in (3) has a spectacular balcony for sitting but the rest of the room was very much in keeping with the original time period. A must for any stop over in Castine!Rooms: In keeping with the time period.Nearby activities: Plenty!Safety: Very safe.Walkability: ExtremelyFood & drinks: Fantastic!Noteworthy details: The attention to period detail!

I recommend a stay or dinner at this remote mid-coast Maine inn! The included breakfasts were super, while on the dinner menu the lobster pot pie is a standout, although everything is truly delicious and there are plenty of options. For coffee, the Gilmore Girls-esque Compass Rose bookstore across the street has espresso (and apple fritters on Fridays!) or there is drip coffee canisters on every floor of the inn in the mornings. There is also a bar separate from the two dining rooms for late-night hangouts, and a piano parlor, where a treasured memory is Matt playing standards and Disney classics while my friend Jessica sang!Beds were very comfy and some rooms had sea views. We enjoyed a day trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, lunch at the Chart Room (with seats right on the jetty!) and an evening schooner ride on the Margaret Todd (recommended!), plus dinner at fine dining eatery Havana. Back in Castine, casual restaurant Dennett’s Wharf is right on the water and their slightly spicy crab melt is incredible. We went to the church rummage sale and really enjoyed soaking in the local flavor. Definitely chat to Matt about things to do as he is a trove of info! But most of all, go stay at this inn!

My husband and I bought a little shop in Belfast, Maine about an hour from Castine. We work 7 days a week.We decided to take our 33rd anniversary off and spend it at Pentagoet Inn.It exceeded our expectations! The drive to get there is breathtaking. The inn is so charming. Perfect location near the harbor. The room was the perfect temperature and the bed was so comfortable! But even above that was the warmth and service from every person there. We were there on a Thursday night so we listened to beautiful piano music throughout our delicious meal. We started with mussels that were SO yummy I wanted to drink the sauce when we were finished! Amazing local greens salad, the fresh crab cakes were some of the best I’ve ever tasted! The lollipop lamb chops were cooked to perfection and my mouth is water for more just writing this! Our waiter Justin was wonderful! He is full of heart and soul, and so easy to connect with not to mention he makes excellent craft cocktails and they have a great wine selection! And yummy dessert! It just so happens the new owners Matt and George were also celebrating their anniversary. Not their 33rd. 😘 They are young and handsome and both look like movie stars! But more importantly they are kind, conscientious, funny, smart and talented. No doubt there will be a film about them and the Inn!In addition to inn guests their were folks from the community dining which adds an additional charm to the atmosphere. So many highlights from our 24 hour get away but one of our favorites that I will mention is Matt playing the piano! Beautiful!Simply Beautiful!❤️❤️❤️

Our stay at the Pentagoet last month was the perfect getaway! It was our second time there but first under the new ownership. The new owners are doing a great job maintaining the things that make the Pentagoet so magical--like the beautiful and unique rooms, the delicious breakfast delivered each morning, and the excellent small plates on the porch for dinner (try the lamb lollipops!).We traveled with our baby who was only a few months old. Our suite in the Perkins House was private, spacious, and perfect for traveling with kids, and Matt and George could not have been more accommodating. Castine is such a special place and we are so glad the Pentagoet is in good hands!

Over priced, very small portions, left feeling hungry. Paid $10 for a dried up brownie with a phony French name to it... they corrected me that it is Italian... still dry and puny. The vegetables were either overly mature or under ripened. They wanted to charge extra for small changes in menu items. No bread, small portions, dismissive greeting staff. We paid a lot of money and left feeling hungry and ripped off. Will not go back for dinner. Maybe just drinks and listen to the jazz music... and they do not like receiving honest feedback... they told me to "not come back" after they received this review. A bit too sensitive and "precious" for my taste... definitely NOT going back. I wish them well though.

The food was very good. The service was not good at all. The waiter did not get back to us about questions we had about menu items and never checked back with us to see if we needed drinks. We made reservations 1 month in advance for "Jazz on the Deck" but they said there was no room on the deck for us, so they seated us in the bar area. We could not hear the live music, and the seats were hard and u comfortable.

We had an amazing girls weekend at the Pentagoet Inn in Castine, Maine. Matt and the team at the Inn truly understand customer service. Matt was available at all times to answer questions and help us navigate the area. The rooms and beds were very comfortable and the bar was such a cosy place to relax and have a drink after a day of sightseeing. The breakfasts included in our stay were 10/10. Everything homemade and delicious. Coffee stations outside our rooms each morning were that extra touch we all loved! Great job Matt and Team! We will definitely be back.
