An incredibly peaceful place along the AT. The inn is wonderfully rustic in appearance, but has all the modern amenities you'd require. I stopped in here section hiking the AT through Maine and can say this place offers exceptional service for hikers. Supplies, cheap hot meals in-house, and free shuttle service to restaurants, a liquor/general store, and to/from the trail head. I cannot recommend this place enough.

The Sterling was a really nice hotel with a great community vibe, a fairly well stocked breakfast, and a respectable resupply store on station. The things that really stuck out to me was that Zack and his father were really fun to talk to, the laundry was free with self service, and the boot dryers work phenomenally well!Great place to wait out the rain or stop in for a zero.

A wonderful place for hikers to stay. They offer full resupply at a decent price and a few frozen pizza and burger options for a meal right there. They have clean bathrooms, quaint little rooms, and an open common room area. They even let non-guests take a shower and do laundry for free!!Walkability: 1.5 miles from AT trailhead

I had to get off trail halfway through a section hike of the AT due to approaching inclement weather. Verizon does not have service in this area. I made my way to the Sterling to find a shuttle back to my car. They called shuttlers until they found an available shuttle for me. They offered to let me wait in their common room but I opted to wait on their very comfortable rocking chair on the porch. I was able to purchase some snacks from their shop which is surprisingly well stocked with snacks and resupplies. This are very hospitable establishment.

Had a fun overnight stay here. Food at the restaurant was good and room was comfy and clean. Enjoyed meeting some of the thru-hikers that had just finished the Appalachian trail. Lots of cool stories.

I’m a SOBO thru-hiker that stayed at The Sterling Inn for a couple of days. Awesome place to resupply and recover from the AT for a day or two. The bunk room is really good, but the rooms are superb. If you’ve been doing some big miles I would definitely recommend getting one of the rooms if you can. The beds are insanely comfortable and they have air conditioning. I’m still nursing an injury out of the 100 mile wilderness, so this was a great place to recoup a little more. If you have aches and pains, you can get Epsom salts down in the resupply store, and they have a huge clawfoot bathtub you can take a bath in. 😁Resupply is extensive and reasonably priced. Eric and Zach are awesome folks and extremely knowledgeable. Showers, laundry and shuttles are included with your stay. I’ll be coming back here next Summer with my girlfriend to use the Inn as a base of operations to explore the area.-Warren

Loved our several day stay. Love how the history was saved and old photos. Even Grandma Gatewood stayed here! Loved the dining room and the lounge refrigerator supplied ice for my trashed SOBO feet. Thank you Eruc for being so friendly. PS Loved the giant antique tubs. Nearby great mountain views of Moxie Pond, Moxie Bald Mountain with views to katahdin, pleasant mountain. Lots of flowers! Red bunchberries. July 2019

This place caters to Appalachian Trail hikers. Rooms are small, but clean. Charming public areas inside and out. No private bathrooms in any room, and the shared bathrooms are not big. Breakfast is included, and is self serve continental. We had to pay for the stay at check in, not check out, which struck us as odd.

Eric and his son Zach are extremely nice and helpful. They have a wealth of knowledge about the history of the inn, surrounding areas, restaurants, etc. My husband and a German friend he met on the Appalachian Trail are walking the AT and I am providing resupply along the way. Eric and Zach provided great information so I could meet them in their travels. The inn is very nice, extremely clean, and very cozy. I would highly recommend this inn!!!

We stayed there for the night on Sunday after a wedding across the street. They gave us a shuttle ride back over from the wedding it was nice knowing if we had too much to drink we didn't have to walk back over to our room in the dark. We had a king room and the bed was so big and cozy. The place was clean. Our breakfast options were good. If your not use to busy roads it can be a tad difficult sleeping with windows open. Other then that if we ever get the chance we would stay again. Staff is pleasant too. Thank you Sterling Inn for our stay!

I personally had a great experience at the sterling inn. We decided to take a trip to Maine without booking anything so we could see the woke state. Yesterday we traveled from bar harbour to moose head lake. Without any prior reservations we were able to secure a room with a two minute phone call. Staff treated us wonderfully and respected or privacy. The purge has a vast knowledge if all the areas of Maine local and not and the breakfast was great. They have everything you might need and can get you anything you want. Id recommend it to anyone. Definately going to return with the kids next year. Thanks for the hospitality.

My 15 year old son from Maine is SOBO on the AT. This was his first hostel pit-stop. The place is awesome. He especially liked the large tub for soaking his tired body and the large private bedroom. Due to COVID-19 the place was very empty for mid-June - just us and one other party of two. The inn was very clean and the breakfast was great (coffee, fruit, toast, and cereal). The small store was well stocked with hiker food. After going out to dinner with other hikers, I stayed up and watched a movie in the giant living room. The internet connection was strong. The owner and his son are great. This is a very hospitable place with a rich history. Five thumbs up. I've stayed at 4-Star hotels that are not as nice as The Sterling Inn. I'll stay again someday.

Eric and Zach are sensational innkeepers. The Inn is clean, tidy and very welcoming. There is a lot of comfortable common space with friendly patrons. I ended up staying three nights.

Great customer service, comfortable room, extremely clean, and a great atmosphere. The lounge was great with lots of DVDs and the shuttle to dinner was a very nice touch for the hikers. Would definitely recommend staying here!

This is the only Inn around that required a Covid Vaccine and had no information on their website or on Kayaks website about the requirement. They would not let me, my fiancé, and my 1 yr old stay with them because of this. They also charged us a cancelation fee, due to this new policy. This is a shady business and future customers beware.
