During our annual vacation to Maine, my father and I had the absolute pleasure of stopping by the Center for Wildlife in Cape Neddick. An expansive facility for care and rehabilitation coupled with lovely viewing areas, both inside (reptiles) and outside (birds and small mammals). The viewable animals are the resident, non-releasable "ambassadors". We enjoyed our visit very much, the staff and center are top-notch. And we got to view the enrichment time of Poppy the porcupine, who we first heard of on TikTok! Very fun.

What an amazing place for kids and adults alike! They have a lovely little children’s area where they can see reptiles up and close and personal, play dress up and pretend to be a wildlife vet. Every feature has so much care and intention behind it to connect humans with the nature we impact. I only wish they had children’s apparel because I definitely would have bought some t-shirts!

It was okay. Most animals are nocturnal so they were sleeping. But cool to see a moose

Everyone there is SO nice and they take great care of the animals. Staff (Josh & Joe) went above and beyond in making our experience memorable. I learned a lot and enjoyed meeting/seeing the non-releasable wildlife ambassadors. Highly recommend to all! Thank you for all that you do!

Less animals the we thought there were. The animals are taken great care of and staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. They also have a great kids play room. It was incredibly hot the day we went so that’s why the raven is panting. He had ample shade and water tho

I have attended a few events at the Center for Wildlife over the past 4 years, and have enjoyed them all immensely. Wild Lytes Night Walk was just as enjoyable, and I am hoping this will be an annual event.

Lovely place. They rescue animals and teach the kids about them. Learning why it's good to stay playing out in woods.

I come to York every year with my wife. Me being the nature and wildlife enthusiast that I am, I have no idea how we missed this place before. The animals they rescued all had stories on how they got there along with facts about their species. I felt a connection to each one there. It's a serious value at only a $10/person donation to get in seeing the work they are doing.

Truly an incredible experience. Everyone we interacted with was so welcoming and kind, and the facility was gorgeous. It was our favorite experience in Maine, and something we will definitely travel back to. Both my young children loved getting to see so many beautiful animals up close and it is obvious they are all very loved and cared for.

I found a nest of baby rabbits disturbed by gardeners. I called and left a message, someone called me right back and advised me on the best course of action. Rabbits are still fine! Great advice, speedy response!! Thank You!

Great destination, even in winter to see some really neat wildlife that has been or being rehabilitated from encounters with mankind...high tension wires, cars & windows. This is a self guided tour...very easy for little kids and older adults to navigate. All of the people there are very knowledgeable about animals and eager to answer any questions. The cost is a donation of your choice....thus place survives on donations. If you like birds of prey this is a good place to see them up close.Check out the "office" Peregrine falcon...she is beautiful!Warmer weather months has more outside animal encounters.Get a group and arrange a private tour. You will love the procupine! Enjoy

Great educational center, we went there for a birthday party and all the kids had a great time. The adults were very interested as well.

The staff went far and above to accommodate our group visiting from an assisted living community. They were friendly, kind, and spent an abundance of time showing us around (this was not a prescheduled visit, they generously did this without knowing we were coming). It was abundantly obvious that they care about the animals fortunate enough to be in their care. The Center For Wildlife is definitely a place worth visiting and an organization deserving of contributions to continue their good work. Thank you CFW!

The facility is amazing! It is staffed with lovely people, doing a really positive thing. Please go for a visit and check out all the creatures, and listen to the mission. If you were as moved as I was, please consider a donation.

Last summer this refuge, excepted, four red finch fledglings from a nest that the sparrows attacked in the parent birds deserted. I called them on the phone on a Sunday afternoon and they immediately told me to try and get down there by closing time. They took much information saying that I needed to come back when they were strong enough to be released in the same neighborhood. I tried weekly to keep in touch, but they got busy and I wasn’t able to hear went to come to fetch them. After calling repeatedly for the next several weeks I did hear later that three out of five of the fledglings made it and we’re released, but I don’t know where? If it is so important to release them locally and someone makes the effort to bring them down. It would be a kindness to email or phone the person? As told by Peggy Clementz from Scarborough, Maine.*Accepted, not expected😉

I had no idea this place was here. I had some vintage mink pelts someone mentioned that they might be able to use. I called and was told they could use for their discovery area. When we went we gave the woman the pelts and we were able to checkout the turtle section. The out door area opens this week, we'll be back to check that out too! I bought my granddaughter a cute ladybug hat and homemade goat soap for me!

My fiance and I went on a private tour with some friends recently, and we all had an amazing time. Jessica was our host, and did a wonderful job. Very relaxed, knowledgeable, and knew a lot of interesting info about all of their animal ambassadors. If you're thinking of a fun and unique date, trip for the kids, or get together for friends I cannot rate this place highly enough. All the money you spend on the tour stays at the center too, so that feels good knowing that you're supporting a really cool place providing a great service for these animals. Henry the porcupine was a real ham also, if you've never seen a porcupine dance here's your chance!

These folks are amazing. If you like wildlife, take a tour, go out at night and chat with the local owls, and schedule a private tour to meet the ambassadors. They are a non profit and do wonderful work.

This place is not good I found an animal on the side the road and I was super upset and it took literally two hours driving here just for the lady to tell me she worked all day and wasn’t interested, it died in my car 5 minutes later (awful human being) definitely not worth the time because it was not the same place, replaced by some giant building, with this awful lady: both useless than what was there before

I am so grateful that the Center exists. I've brought injured wildlife here more than once (today was a Great Blue Heron hit by a car and left to die. Cars were just passing by while this poor bird was struggling) and the people who work here are an absolute Godsend they took him right away for critical care. The professional and compassionate care here is amazing. Thank you for your service!!

I went there to drop off a few squirrels for my mother who had been taking care of them for several weeks. The girl behind the desk was rude and awkward and I felt completely judged on the whole thing. She then scolded me on the fact that my mother wasn't a licensed rehabilitator. I feel like this was wrong of her. My mother did all her research to make sure they got the care they needed. I had called several months ago about another set of squirrels and I was told that I was free to care for them myself or bring them in if I wanted. Maybe the staff should communicate better with each other about their standards an3s also how to treat people.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, they have helped us to rescue and rehabitate two barred owels. They gave us a card to allow us to call and check in so we could help to release the owl once it was better.I loved meeting all of the ambassador birds here and spend lots of time every time I visit. It's a great place to bring kids and family and learn about all the ways you can help birds without causing them harm. Please be sure if you visit to bring some spare cash to donate as they are non profit and non government funded!
