I went there to check out some books and omg!!! When i went straight to romance section the aisle is so astonishing and beautiful. There’s also a ladder there although you can’t climb through it, but I would pay just to go back to the bookstore just so I can go to that aisle again!!!

Excellent old school book store with large selection. They are not afraid to call out the horrible latest practice of banning books that make readers uncomfortable. (See window picture). Kudos to them for taking a stand !!

I love Sherman’s Books, so of course, while in Bar Harbor, Maine, I had to stop by to visit the original location!Located right at 56 Main Street in Bar Harbor, you can’t miss this shop! The store is HUGE! It’s almost broken up into three sections. On the far left is a gift shop with loads of goodies like jewelry, gifts, and household items. The middle section has toys and kids books. The far right side is all books.Before we walked in, we checked out the window displays. They had an awesome banned book window that was quite the conversation starter! A gentleman from Sherman’s named Art came out to talk to us about the banned books for awhile while we were standing outside on the sidewalk.While our group was looking at them, we talked to at least four other people about it as they walked by or went to enter the shop.Definitely a must-visit when in the area!

Just visited today for my first time and it was awesome! They have a wonderful selection of books, toys, and gifts! They even had some really cool book editions I haven’t seen before!

This is a fun shop to visit if you are in the area. They have a large selection of books and a great clearance section. If you are interested in the history of Acadia they have many books on the subject as well as on other areas of local history.They also stock typical tourist goods like shirts, post cards, toys etc.We bought some great books on clearance for a great price and enjoyed looking over their excellent inventory. Staff was friendly and helpful and the building is fun with lots of character.

It's a fun shop right in the main-est part of downtown Bar Harbor, but I wish there were more books than gifts. As it is, it seems to take up three storefronts, one of which is books and the other two are gifts. At least that's what I remember. It's fine as a book shop, but nothing too super special.

Great little local bookstore in the heart of downtown Bar Harbor. Nice selection of both adult and children's books with a good amount from local Maine authors. The staff seems knowledgable and very friendly. The store recently hosted a book signing for me and I feel very welcomed. Good foot traffic in the store. It's nice to see a small local bookstore thriving.

We visit Sherman’s every time we’re in town! It’s reliably great for books, toys and gifts which means nobody in our family leaves empty handed. They especially have great selection of local Maine focused books for kids and adults!

I remember coming in here to buy Uglydolls, but, of course, I can't resist looking at the books. This is where I discovered the "Vampirates" series, which turned out to be a good read - all four books, that is. Alas, I did not have time to visit on my last trip, but hopefully I will get the chance to scan the shelves on my next trip and find a good read I probably won't find any place else.

What a fun store to visit! It is in a picturesque area with lots to do. There are unique gifts here and many excellent books to choose from. I picked up a few great books for my kids. Friendly place and a fun store!

We go here each visit to Bar Harbor to purchase Lego sets for the kids. Always a decent selection (toys, books, gifts), great service, and there's a loyalty program that we have taken advantage of as well. As a bonus, there's an amazing fudge and ice cream store next door :)

We love visiting independent bookstores wherever we visit. This one was great. It's the oldest bookstore in Maine and it's located right downtown. Definetly stop in if you get a chance.

I love Sherman’s! Great, non-traditional selection in a cozy shop and location. Very convenient to have a good bookstore nearby on vacation. I do warn that it gets busy and crowded in the aisles, but it’s no one’s fault that folks love visiting Bar Harbor!

Sherman’s always has the best selection. With many small book stores, they barely have any stock and what they do have is dedicated to local authors who self-published. Sherman’s has a huge selections of popular books you’ve heard of, and ones you haven’t but look immediately interesting. Also, they have a huge selection of puzzles and games

What a neat store. We came in February, off season in Bar Harbor, and Sherman's was hopping as always. Great selection of books but we also found some games for early Christmas shopping. We enjoyed it so much, I came back the next morning on our way home to pick up another couple books.

Super cute little bookstore and souvenir shop. They have a great curated selection of fun books, games, and interesting unique souvenirs. They clearly try hard not to have the usual knick-knacks because their selection was very unique and fun.

Probably the least obvious, but best gift shop in Bar Harbor. They've got just about everything here too. Prices are better here than at most shops in the area. It's worth a look around in the book store side and the gift and items side of the store.

It’s a beautiful store with a great collection of fiction and non-fiction books, stationary, board games and anything else you might need on a slow lazy day in Bar Harbor. The employees also know their books and make great recommendations so definitely chat with them if you need help. A must-visit when you are in Bar Harbor!
