Smart Eye Care suddenly dropped their acceptance of my family’s vision insurance coverage; following many years of my family bringing in revenue to this company (at both facilities in Augusta and Farmingdale, Maine). I do not have the luxury of instantly switching vision insurance companies because I am locked into a particular insurance for an entire calendar year. Historically the staff at Smart Eye Care have treated myself and my family members very well. But when a healthcare company suddenly denies a hardworking family’s insurance (two months into the year), that family no longer feels like a valued customer; they feel like a “number.” Luckily my coworkers helped us locate a competent eye care provider who accepts our insurance plan.

I have been a patient with them since 2020 my I've been there a few times in that time. The first time my experience I thought was an off day from the doctor but after my most recent visit I've come to the decision that it wasn't a bad day it's just her. The doctor was very rude, short, and dismissive of my concerns she took less than 3 minutes to give me a script (the same as before) which was causing headache and was slightly blurry which she was told and ignored. She spent the first minutes I saw her asking about my HIV status and stuff that didn't matter it's not like she even touched me at all.The doctor there is very biased and should not be a doctor I recommend anyone needing eyecare go anywhere else. Pretty sure Walmart does eye exams I'd go there before going back to smart eyecare

They are Always about the patient! Staff and Doctors are caring, compassionate, and comforting. Whether it's a regular routine visit or a emergency visit. They will take good care of you and your concerns. I always recommend smart eye care too everyone!!

Was referred from Convenient care. This was a sudden issue and I was given an appointment the same day The professionals were all great and very helpful. It was like I wasn't new at all. Everything went well and any issues were addressed immediately. Thank you all for a very positive experience.

My new glasses were delayed because of internal miscommunication and arrived with incorrect lenses twice. My vision was still not clear so the optometrist performed another vision test and said the glasses were correct. I explained that I still couldn't see clearly, and she said "you SHOULD be able to". The optician Ken was great and helped in every way he could. I've paid for new glasses that I can not use.

I have trusted my precious eyes to Smart Eye Care for almost two decades. I never worried about which doctor I got because each one was, and still is gifted, competent, and wonderful to me. I have been seeing Dr. Tobyne who is awesome: patient, brilliant, compassionate, and I think the world of her. All the staff is super efficient, courteous, and friendly. Smart Eye Care is also very accommodating when I have an emergency concerning my eyes.Only compliments from me: the amazing Dr. Smart would be so pleased. The business is up-to-date, thorough, professional, and provides a comfortable, sparkling clean environment to get one’s eyes attended to. .

Everyone at this office is wonderful. They really take their time and make sure you are comfortable and ask thorough questions about health history. They explain all the tests and let you know up front what is and isn't covered by insurance. Dr Quint is a great eye doctor. Same as above and very friendly and personable.

Dr. Tobyne is great and the support staff is kind and helpful. I was able to have an exam and order new glasses in under an hour. It's so nice when an office has competent people working there. I highly recommend.

The dr was nice seemed rushed but it may have been because my appointment was around lunch. But try calling them they never answer the phone. Hours must be wrong online. It seems like none is ever there when I call...Update! I went in today for an appointment for my blurry contacts the tech was amazing very helpful. The dr came in and said I saw you're review and it will be going on ur file now... she asked me where I worked I told her she then said okay shell do a review for my work place. I went in with blurry contacts and came out with blurry contacts.. I told the tech the 2nd pair was worse the dr looked at them said they where moving fine and to give them a week or 2..

You ask for a regular exam, and they decide you need something additional part way through and bill your insurance company for a non-regular exam resulting in you having to pay out of pocket for the ENTRIE service you thought was covered. Never going back.Yes - Correct company.No - Not a patient, my partner is.

Smart Eye Care is wonderful! I have struggled with dry for years. My former eye clinic told me to put in eyedrops eight times or more a day. It never really helped the dry eye. Because of my dryness my glasses were never exactly right. Before spending more money on new glasses we are working towards healing my dry eye!Smart Eye really is smart!Thank you so much! I highly recommend this facility!

It's been a few years since I've been here, my how it's been negatively changed. I had a 7am appointment. First person of the day. I waited almost fifteen minutes before the tech did my initial screening. Waited some more. Doctor was busy so she was going to put in the eye drops. When I asked about the drops , I received the most derogatory tone as she explained that since I had refused to pay for the best treatment I would have to make do with the drops so the doctor could look behind my eyes. (Excuse me, I had politely said I'm sorry I couldn't afford this time.) I asked if I would be ok to drive. Oh certainly the woman said. After waiting again and starting to check the hall the doctor finally comes out. I've been there 45 minutes. The doctor who was so busy was in fact laughing, chatting, definitely not working as those rooms are not sound proof. Came in, did a couple quick checks , said your good and left. Omg I tried to drive home. So scary. I had to stop. Completely white blind. There's no way I should have been driving. Took almost an hour before I could see well enough to get home. Dr Smart, wherever you are, sorry to leave you but these people don't do treat your clients well at all. Julie Packard

I have been a patient of Dr. Quint for 2-3 years now. I struggled with with dry, blurry extremely red sore eyes for years! I had been to a couple different eye doctors and tried more drops, over the counter and prescription, then I can even begin to list out. I was desperate and had just changed eye doctors because my regular one retired . . My new doctor sent me here. All I can say is it absolutely changed my life. Dr Quint and her staff were amazing . . They understood what I was going through and figured out a way to help me. By the time I was sent to her I was aware of EVERY SINGLE BLINK . .I was miserable. I am extremely grateful. Unless you have a chronic eye condition it's hard to explain. I travel 3.5 hours one way and would travel twice that much if necessary!! If you think you have tried everything and it won't matter . . It matters, just try one more doctor . . It could make all the difference

After reading some of the other reviews about this company I can honestly say I’m not surprised by what I experienced. As a new patient I came in with hopes they would help me with some issues I was having with my contacts. I was prescribed a different brand contact than what I was used to and was told to let them know if there were any problems. Well those contacts really irritated my eyes so I called back and asked to try a different pair. I was told I would have to wait another week and a half for an appointment, which was a bummer but I said ok. I went in for my next appointment to try yet another pair of contacts and right away I told the doctor they still seemed super dry and uncomfortable. She said to give it a few days and call them to let them know if I liked them or not. So I gave it 3 days and called to ask if I could just go back to the contacts that I was wearing prior to coming to see them. I was told the dr wouldn’t be in until Monday (this was Thursday) and that no one else could help me, so I would “just have to use eye drops until then” which were the exact words from the incredibly unprofessional, inconsiderate, and rude technician. So I called Monday and was told that they couldn’t see me to prescribe the new contacts for another TWO weeks! And there was absolutely nothing they could do to help me in the mean time. I asked to speak to my dr but apparently she was too busy to actually perform adequate patient care and couldn’t talk to me or call me back. I was so fed up I just asked for my prescription to go else where. I think chances are everyone who has a bad review on this company is talking about the same tech, AYLA, that I dealt with. She is making them lose patients and giving them a bad name for their business. Thanks Smart Eye Care, thanks for having no sympathy for your patients needs! I won’t be coming back.

From the Reception staff to the Dr., everyone is pleasant and professional; the appointments run on time with little waiting, the exams and screenings are thorough, and the explanations and instructions are clear. Despite the challenges that COVID has caused, the team at Smart Eye Care was very customer service focused with making me feel at ease, safe and comfortable. The offices and common areas were all disinfected and as a patient I did not feel uncomfortable with the new intake process or during the exam and tests. Great Job! So enjoyable to see you all!

I really appreciate it the way that they are handling this pandemic. There on time, very friendly, and extremely professional. My appointment went quick. Everything was explained to me thoroughly. They even had my contact prescription in stock and I have a free trial basis to see if the contacts are a good fit for me.Thank you to everyone that works here they're amazing

Definitely don’t recommend smart eye care. I’ve had numerous issues with them the most recent being them “losing” my appointment so I showed up and they claimed I didn’t have an appointment that I waiting over a month to get into to. I also called them about an issue I was having with my contacts about 6 months ago and they never called me back. They’re customer service is awful and the people the have working their front desks are rude. 0/10 don’t go to smart eye care.

Love Dr. Quint, but the office NEVER answers the phone! I’ve heard customers complaining at reception, and they are told, “We get really busy sometimes.” I get that but most people work and are also very busy and can’t just wait for a call back. I know that not answering the phone is a business trend these days. SEC could stand out if they picked up once in a while.

I've been a patient at both the Bangor and Augusta offices for quite a few years now and I've always had a fabulous experience. The doctors I have seen have always been very kind and more than willing to make sure I understand what's going on, as well as address concerns/questions with an intersecting chronic health issue that can affect my vision neurologically.I wish y'all had a location just a little further south, though!

Just received a e-bill for my service back in May of this year. I found it in my spam folder as a fishing scheme…looks as though they have been billing me, by email, since July and I had no idea. I never received a phone call, or a paper bill in the mail. A late fee was tacked on and once I read the bill it stated it was going to collections. Mind you this was for $17.98 as my insurance paid all but that amount. Now, with the late fee it is $57.98. Collections for less than 60 dollars. If I had known I needed to pay that I would have done so. I have paid the amount through their website, but feel as though, they should have contacted me by phone as well.

I recently had specialty care in Boston and my regular local doc knew nothing about it and was not interested in learning. I called these people, got right in and Dr. Quint knew all about it. She did exactly what was needed. Everyone there was kind, courteous and COMPETENT!!! I have been in the medical profession for decades and have had many different eye providers. This practice is outstanding and I highly recommend it. I won't go anywhere else.

My entire family went here this year for our eye exams. Besides the doctor, everyone was short and acted as though we were in their way. The nurses explained NOTHING throughout the process and got irritated with my child when she didnt hold her head still. We were told if we wanted to avoid dilation we would have to use their machine that cost $35 out of pocket....not covered by insurance... Next, my 9 year old daughter wears glasses and is due for a new pair. In order to get a new pair we need her PD Measurment.....they never told us we had to get a "special package exam" and the PD measurement would be an extra $30..... this can be done in 1 minute with a $2 ruler..... So..... We paid over $300 in basic exams that we were rushed through and they wanted us to pay an extra $75 out of pocket.... Just go to eye mart across the street..... At least you wont feel like. A leper when you leave. Place is a joke.

New customer. The lady i spoke to over the phone was very friendly and helpful, and was able to get me in rite away to be seen. Apon arriving another lady got me signed in and started my eye exam. She was not as friendly and seemed irritated with any small talk. It made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. How ever, the dr we saw was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. He had my new prescription ready quickly as well. Over all i enjoyed my visit and will be a returning customer, along with the other members of my family. Hoping the one lady was just having a bad day and not always that way with customers,because even her demeanor while walking through out the building assisting other customers was off putting and made her seem very unapproachable.I would still recommend this place to anyone needing eye care.
