7/10/2023 around 8pm two St Landry Parish Animal Control officers came pick up two german shepherd breed dogs from our house and I didn’t get their name/don’t recall if they said their names, but they were the nicest, most reassuring men. Extremely helpful and patient with us throughout the day as we tried to get these dogs picked up and made sure we knew that the dogs would be well taken care of. Hopefully they see this and know how thankful we are to their kindness!

I called this company to pick up a dog in my neighborhood. This certain employee arrived and just looked at the dog and that’s it. He spoke to one of my neighbors, jumped in his company truck, and left. Now, that’s sad! If I’m hired to do a job, I actually do it. Too bad this company cannot!

Unfriendly front desk women. I came in and wasn't greeted. I told her I had the kitten for them to take.(that I found outside all alone) she gave me papers to fill out as the cat is crawling on me. So I asked what I was to do with him/her? She came around and took the kitten as if she didn't even want to touch it. They acted like I just abandoned him. I was actually a little concerned to leave it there afterwards. But if the two men that was in the yard, with the animals take care of him, he/she should be good. Nice, polite, hard working gentlemen. Would love to see pics of the kitten on their website in the near future. Just keep in mind, everyone has bad days and goes through things, but you will not get far in life with an attitude. Politness and southern hospitality brightens other's day. God bless

I can never thank this place enough for saving the life of a dog who eventually became my best friend. In 2010, they had an enormous, somewhat senior, and previously injured dog who was scheduled to be put down because he had been unclaimed for so long..But the wonderful person who worked there thought he was such a nice dog that he must be special, looked up what he was, and found the breed rescue organization, who drove more than five hours to come save him. After considerable medical attention, this gentle giant was matched with me -- and my life, and his, were transformed forever. This very special dog, who had been through a lot before I got him and was skin-and-bones thin, recovered fully and lived to an advanced old age in a home full of love and happiness that he made possible. That's him in my profile picture, running for the sheer joy of it on a beach in Wisconsin at sunrise, the energy of life extending with each stride. Thank you, St. Landry Parish Animal Control, for rescuing this amazing dog and making our lives so very much better.

We have a stray cat that showed up at our house that we can't care for and they won't pick up, they want me to catch and then drive 30 minutes to them to drop it off at the shelter (basically they want me to do their job). What are our tax dollars paying for if "animal control" won't see about nuisance animals???

My family was interested in adopting a dog, Charlie, that was posted on their Facebook page. We emailed the shelter that night asking for additional information with the intention of going to the shelter the next day to meet the dog with our kids. The emails were answered by Stacy Alleman, deputy director of the shelter. She was not giving us much information through the emails so I decided to call the next day before driving an hour out of town. After several calls (first couple times the phone rang with no answer) Stacy finally answered. I asked about the history of the dog and for information pertaining to his behavior with kids. Her answers were very brief and border line rude. She seemed bothered by my questions and not interested in finding any animal a home let alone the one I was asking about. After being told that she could not help me with the information I was looking for I ended the conversation before I became even angrier than I was.Stacy Alleman, deputy director is the main reason my family and I decided not to adopt Charlie. Her rudeness over the phone and email completely turned us away from the shelter. My hope is that her boss is made aware of her poor attitude but given her position I do not harbor much hope.

They are horrible complaining about being over filled but yet they are taking peoples fur babies and refusing to return them. The staff are rude and they have no regard in what heartbreaking actions they are taking.. inhonestly have never delt with such horrible people before..

I found a wounded stray cat at home. Poor baby had a fish hook stuck in his mouth. I tried to bring him to a local vet (Fontenot's) but they turned him away because he was a stray and I couldn't pay. I went to the St. Landry Animal Control and they gladly accepted him. The reason I took away two stars is because I had to sign a statement stating that this was not my cat nor my neighbors. It also states that I could be charged with animal abandonment if it is for my neighbor. They even made a copy of my license. I am new to Opelousas. Where I live, they have a few stray cats. How will I know if this one particular cat is for a neighbor? How can I be charged with abandonment? I brought the cat to a place that can help him and give him the medical treatment it needs??? It's not like I just dropped him off in a neighborhood just to get rid of him. I did all I could to help the poor thing!Thank you for accepting him but y'all need to rethink the abandonment threat.

We were trying to adopt a dog and were told that she was going to a rescue and we were not allowed to even meet her. She is still at the shelter and we are still very interested in getting her.

I wish and hope they fired the people I dealt with over there, they have no integrity, I would call regularly for a horse who was so neglected in our small town that it was witnessing animal torture right under our eyes, each time I called they said they would send an inspector and instead would they would call the owner of the horse to have the stall cleaned up & horse fed and watered. I guess small minded indifferent people working there did not care one fig about the suffering of the poor horse. We had to call the TV station from Lafayette to save the horse, the owner of the property tried to put another horse in that miserable place but not for long, whether the horse survived or is neglected hidden away from the public eye we will never know, and the animal control would probably aid and abate the devious behavior rather than save an animal. Now we walk by that place and think of an abandoned concentration camp which could be used again anytime. Same with a friend of mine who lives next town, he has a neighbor who literally tortures animals (a live pig in a nailed crate the same size of the pig?? really? and a starving horse tied to a tree THE WHOLE WINTER) Again this outfit who calls itself animal control declared that : these animals were just fine as is and furthermore harassed my friend for complaining about it. DISGUSTING AND SHAMELESS: LET THE WHOLE WORLD KNOW. It is an outrage, and we're paying taxes for that!

They are overcrowded and the funds are not being used on the animals. The vet is rude and when you call to have an animal to be picked up they don't show up.

I have called them 6 times and never gotten an answer. They care more about their presence on facebook than they do actually helping animals.

Called to find out if they had any adoptable dogs in the size I need for mobility help. The lady was rude and had no interest in helping the dogs or people to adopt. Very sad!
