Nice sized bookstore located off the canal line. Although I drove to the area and walked around, I know that's a long ride from the Qtr, but worth it. Hoping on and off to sight see while on St Charles helps, when it's not too hot out. This was a recommended store by an English Prof I met elsewhere in the city. It was a Saturday afternoon and they were fairly busy. I still saw staff walking around helping and sprucing. I went a little crazy this time, but they had a good selection of new and used books. I was walking off the UM game @Cooters and a couple tasters @Oak St brewery. They even had comp snacks and drinks and you can spin the wheel for other goodies. 4 instead of 5 stars cause I'm a dog person(jk)

Amazing people working with amazing books. Always friendly and they host some amazing special events. One of my favorite spots in the city that keeps me coming back time and time again. Kitty Meow is obviously a massive plus. Love this place and the people working there and cannot recommend it enough.

I love this store and they have a cat. Who doesn’t love a bookstore cat? The staff is so friendly and great at making recommendations. I love that they have so many community events—I am always too busy to attend but I love that they are happening. They were also kind enough to take my Indie published Children’s Book, ‘Bill Bailey, Please Come Home’. Even if they hadn’t I would still find this the most fabulous shop for all of the reasons above. Shop here more so that they can keep growing.

My favorite book store in NOLA. 💙 The staff is always so lovely and helpful and I always leave with something. Of course it’s always an honor to see local celebrity Kitty Meow as well.

Wonderful new and used book shop with two floors, a great selection, and a cat! Very large section of local books and works by artists in NOLA. The staff was friendly and the prices were very reasonable. I picked up some Hemingway today, but saw four or five other books that I’ll need to purchase next time I come. This is what bookstores should be (not big box stores) and Blue Cypress fits perfectly in a beautifully eclectic neighborhood.

This is my absolute FAVORITE bookstore to come to in New Orleans. They have used books, a cat, and a fun buyer card where you can use money you spend towards a free book! The service is great. One of the workers: Jodi, introduced me to my new favorite author Emily Henry by recommending me a few of her books! The environment and selection is great!!❤️

A top-tier bookstore, worth a visit any time. It's a lovely, curated women-owned bookstore in a cozy neighborhood with an immensely knowledgeable staff who offer superb recommendations. Features a bookstore kitty, affectionately known as Kitty Meow, who is a New Orleans icon of course. It hosts a robust event calendar with several excellent book clubs, especially Happily Ever After (a romance book club). Also, it has a comprehensive online store with easy ordering.I have been a patron for nearly ten years, and it’s almost impossible to walk away empty-handed. Go, seriously!

the best bookstore with the kindest owner & employees! If they don't have the book (which every time I go in, they do!) they will order it for you with joy. Excellent store cat as well.

Lovely Indie Bookstore with great aura. Two stories, so you know they are serious about their craft.

BEST 👏 BOOKSTORE 👏 EVER 👏Constant haunt of ours when we lived in Nola and a guaranteed stop every time we visit. Worth every penny to still buy books from them and have them shipped! The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable!! What more could you ask for?!

A cute little bookstore with at least a little bit of something from every genera, a cool little novelties section, and a sweet cat. There are a few benches to sit on while you consider your options, and for the most part there's enough room to easily maneuver around others. Prices are also ok for used books. Parking is scarce, and that's really the only negative about this place.

Blue Cypress Books is lovely. All of the booksellers are passionate and knowledgeable about the stock and I always feel welcome. There is an upstairs area with even MORE books. I started going there for the books of course but really I could spend hours just looking at the little aspects of the space, literally even the floor is interesting, go look at it.My favorite part of BCB is how I can see parts of all the booksellers in all the pieces that make up the shop. You really have to hand it to Elizabeth (shop owner/bookseller), she’s attracted the most wonderful staff to entrust her shop to. Every single one of them do such a fantastic job of making BCB feel local, cozy, and cared for. As a business owner I know that having the best employees is a testament to doing the right thing as an owner. If you follow the Instagram you can really dig into which bookseller has your similar reading vibe and then follow their recs to get you the EXACT books you never would’ve ended up with on your own. If you don’t do social, there’s a little spinny shelf with their recs so you can check there first to see who’s in your lane too. Jodi is my like mind. There’s nothing she can tell me to read that I would question.Really you should follow the Instagram though because it’s a work of art. There is so much information about featured books but also lots of fun activities and events happening all the time!SUPPORT INDIE BOOKSTORES AND SHOP AT BLUE CYPRESS! The only downside is that you’ll never want to shop anywhere else! But it’s worth that risk!Oh, also there’s a cat. Sometimes she’s in the mood for attention and/or pets. Sometimes she’s not. But surely you already knew that, since she’s a cat.

I love that we have a used bookstore! I lived in another city for a short time that had a Half Price Books and I always wished we had something like it with a good selection There was a great collection of notable fiction including the classics and some wonderful local finds. I was looking for something specific which they didn’t have. The associate did order the book for me and have since ordered many new releases too. Also major plus is the bookstore cat! 😺

Their friendly knowledgeable staff, expanded store and a super cute shop cat, always make for a good experience! They have the book you're looking for or they'll get it for you quickly. And a Blue Cypress gift certificate always makes a good present for all ages.

First time visiting with a friend. The moment that I walked into Blue Cypress Books I was excited immediately! The entire book store is covered in books. It may sound odd, but honestly every wall from top to bottom was a book shelf. That made this location extra cozy.Jazz music was playing with the room temperature perfected for a read on-site. Unfortunately there is no place to read. The book selection is massive and I especially loved the antique book area. Used books and new books from all genres.I wish I had gotten her name, but the sales clerk was outstanding and I even provided me with a suggestion when I asked one of her favorite books. I will definitely return soon!

Blue Cypress is a woman-owned, locally-owned bookstore on Oak St near the levee. While they are most known for their used books selection they also have a great new selection. They often highlight local authors and host several different book clubs on site. Don't forget to meet Kitty when you go!

I've been coming to this bookstore consistently for a year. I'm beyond enchanted with this gem of a bookstore. The wide variety of authors and their section on judaism is great ! I also love the lgbt fiction novels and political subject novels. Elizabeth, the owner is an amazing lady. 👏🏾 I will continue to support this small business in the community. They are definetly a light !

Loved this bookshop! The selection was large, the atmosphere was so cozy, and I loved how there were chairs everywhere! In total I got 8 books from this shop. If I can, I’ll totally come back! Plus, their cat was just adorable.

Support Independent Bookstores! This was my first visit to this charming book store on Oak Street. It has a mixture of new and second hand books and an abundance of local authors and signed books. I could spend hours looking at all the books! It even has a bookstore kitty- appropriately named. Kitty meow! What a New Orleans gem!

Incredibly inaccessible and the selection is uninspired, almost identical to every other indie bookstore with a lot of literary fiction, most of it a few years old, and a bunch of big press YA. The local collection is pretty good, though. (No idea about upstairs , as it's completely inaccessible to me.) Used books are scattered throughout to make things more interesting, I suppose. Asked about a new poetry book from a local press, told they didn't have it and there was no offer to order it through them. Be advised, if you have a service dog, you have to call ahead to get the bookstore cat corralled, as he's very hostile to dogs. You can't just walk in with a service dog.Overall, this wasn't worth the trip to the shop, and I have to order the book online anyway. I don't think I'll be back.

Interesting mix of new and preloved books over 2 floors. Also gifts etc and incentives ... spent $62 and got a free book

Blue Cypress is, as always, the best independent bookstore in town. While Octavia and Garden District Books are great for new reads, and the antiquarian shops in the Quarter are great for tough-to-find old times, Blue Cypress has just the perfect selection of new and used books - and their incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff always make you feel at home and have great recommendations! Truly a gem in the cultural landscape of our city.

Had an ok experience. Alarm kept going off and employee didn’t do anything. Another employee had to come from upstairs to address the issue. Wasn’t greeted upon walking in and had no idea about the different books available and where to locate them. Bought two books and upon checking out staff was friendly. Street parking where you have to pay with an app.
