I normally recommend Bayou Animal Hospital to everyone, been using them for 13 years. Love Vanessa and the straight to the Point Vet Dr Bell.BUT this week, My 14 year old Dog had a stroke at 8 am, Called and Jeanne answered the phone, I have always avoided her at all costs for years. She is rude and condescending. She told me Dr would not be in until 930, And that my dog could be dropped off for Euthinasia, BUT Dr would not be able to do it until 130pm. WHAT!!!!! I did NOt want to to dump my BABY off, for ONE, nor did I want him to wait until 130 to be “taken Care of”. She said, “well, you can take him to Riverlands or wait till this afternoon”. I understand there are appointments and that was her first opening, BUT this was not something that could wait, nor did I want them putting my dog down without me there. Any other Vet would have had me come and fit me in for this unexpected emergency. They were open, they had a vet there. I am sure the scheduled appointments would understand that the Dr may be a little late. I know I would be happy to wait if this was someone else family pet.I called Destrehan immediately, the first thing they said, So sorry you are going through this, come on in, we will take you now!!!!!!The staff and the vet were all amazing and compassionate. We were immediately brought into a room, all ready for him!!! They gave us as much time as needed with my baby.5 STARS for Destrehan 0 STARS for Bayou who has gladly taken my money for 13 years.To say the least I will NEVER return nor refer them to anyone every again!!!!I did calll Bayou later that day, letting them know how upset I was. Of course Jeanne denied it, and said she didnt mean this and didnt mean that. I half way expected a call from Dr Bell, apologizing for Jeanne or at least for losing my baby, whom she has treated for 13 years!!!! Not to mention I just spent almost $1500 on a new puppy in the last 2 months!!!! No Call, just was told me leaving a bad review would not be nice of me!!!!

I was truly deceived by the receptionist. I was told that if I called before I picked up my dog he was going to be bathe. When I picked up my dog he was shaking and dirtier than when I dropped him off. I wouldn't recommend the place to anyone.I luv my dog 🐕.

I'd give them 5 stars but there prices compared to other vets in the parish are quite high. Workers are friendly and easy appointment scheduling are a plus.
