Remote and tucked away, this place is a gem. We are camping and the sites are nice and just a quick walk from the beach. The devastation of hurricane Ida can still be seen in the area. That is very sad… But they have done a phenomenal job of rebuilding this park. There is not a lot to do in the area but if you’re looking for quiet, relaxation and a beautiful setting, you can’t do much better than this. The beach is gorgeous and very quiet. There is a bike trail that will take you around the island. But again, if you’re looking for a whole lot to do in the area, there is not much.Restrooms: Large and very cleanDog-friendliness: Very dog friendly. There is a part of the beach where dogs are allowed to go.

Very nice camper spots, extremely clean park, restrooms, and laundry facility. The camp host, Bruce, is amazing. He's very knowledgeable about everything and friendly and helpful. The only downfall is the men's restroom has no AC or very little AC, My bf complained about it being very humid and uncomfortable. The women's restroom and laundry are very cold.

Remote getaway, we return from Michigan as often as we can. Love to walk the shore, bicycle to town & marina. Dolphins in sight, so many shorebirds squawking too! Ranger station & grounds staff so helpful & cordial. Truly wonderful, kind folk. Still repairing Ida damage, worth compromising pier access for all the other good stuff. Laundry at bathouse still clean & $1.75 affordable:) Note they fog (garlic maybe?) for mosquitoes frequently from cart throughout campsites, helps a lot.Dog-friendliness: Walking about campground with pets just fine. Dogs never allowed on shore.

Stayed here for 7 nights. Very nice and smaller campground (49 sites, incl beach tent sites) with water and electricity.I just wish they wouldn't allow car camping as those sites tend to be messy and people open and slam doors non stop. Also the campground is not "policed" so it can be loud in the evening/at night.Restrooms: Only one bathhouse at the far end. The other one is still working under renovations since hurricane IdaDog-friendliness: Dogs are allowed in the campground, not on the beach

This by far is one if not the best state park ever. Bruce the camp host, was so helpful. The generosity this gentleman shows towards the park is above and beyond any and all expectations. Gerome the park ranger very friendly and helpful. Regardless of the previous reviews these campgrounds are patrolled in a truck marked state park. This is a state park with lots to do. Camping, fishing, swimming, picnics, kayaking, bike trails, just to name a few. The campgrounds are beachside with fire rings and picnic tables as well as the campground for campers/rvs and yes tents. Seen a comment about car camping, the writter was not happy but this is a campground for everyone. If you don't like camping in a campground with people sitting around a campfire cooking food and having a great time, then you should probably stay in an RV park. This park is gorgeous, fun, a place to relax after fishing and the people who take care of this park are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. We appreciate both of you and it's good to see the progress of fully opening up. By the way, yes there are fish in the lagoon, and if your nice Bruce will teach you some of his tricks.

No sewer hookup but water and electricity (30 & 50 amp). All large pull thru sites. Showers and restrooms clean but ageing a bit. Picnic table and grill at each site. Good dump station. Can't see ocean from sites due to natural sand berm but only about 100 yards away. Palm trees on most sites but not much shade. Close to food, gas, propane. Good value. $33 per night---1/2 price if over 62.

This place is beautiful and has definitely cleaned up very well after Ida. Everyone’s been very nice and welcoming to my husband and I who were honeymooning. My only issues:The bathrooms are gross. The shower curtains all have mold on them from bottom to top. They mow their already short grass at 8 am. Almost daily it feels like. I don’t usually like to be “that” person but is it super necessary to mow that early??? When its just knocking dew off???Otherwise we do plan on coming back.Update: the man who cleans everything had been gone and had everything cleaned up by the time we had spent a day at the beach!

Trashy state park. They’ll let a family with a stroller pay for entry only to discover brackish water closing off the path to the beach and a destroyed boardwalk. I watched them leave disappointed after just getting inside the park.Park people constantly driving up and down the beach destroying what could otherwise be solitude and harassing you. Are they fixing anything? No. Just bothering you.Everything is off limits but they’re happy to take your money. Why are tax dollars going into these gas tanks and these guys’ paychecks so they can cruise the beach and bother visitors, when there is so little to visit, and they won’t fix the rest?

Beautiful RV park right next to the beach. Spent a lot of time riding bikes on the beach and collecting shells. This beach was too muddy for swimming but 2 miles up the road is a good swimming and fishing beach. Clean bathhouses, but entrance from bathhouse to beach is closed at this time. (Repairs underway). Campsite is extremely dark at night, well patrolled and quiet, with camp host on site. No sewer hookup, but convenient dump site.

Visited in January so not busy. Was a fee, $3 per person, to get in as it's a state park. The teenager at the booth did not say that both beach access areas were closed for repairs which is why it did not get 5 stars. We had to drive all over to figure out how to get to the beach as the walkways pictured were both closed. Had to park in an RV spot and walk from there as it was the only place to access. Pretty beach, did have rocks to break the waves which Elmer island did not.

Would love to give a better rating but the mosquitos ruined our visit. Check before you go. Some weeks there are no mosquitoes. When we were there, we could barely leave our car or our trailer without being swarmed and bitten DOZENS of times. The campground is unimaginative; the beach is better than average. The daily visit restrooms/ shower room is very nice. The staff member who created us at the registration booth was very kind and helpful.

This is a well kept gem of a park, despite the devastation of Ida 2 1/2 years ago. Boardwalks are being rebuilt. Restrooms clean. Campsites are huge, all paved with fire rings and picnic tables and grass areas in between. Many thanks to Jerome for helping us out with an electrical problem. Staff Bruce and Fabian are great fellas.

Grand Isle State Park was a fun experience. We took our 7 year old for a quick beach day. The beach was clean, and there weren't too many people. The bath house was extremely clean. The pier to get from the bath house to the beach is currently closed. We had a small hike to get to the beach, but it wasn't too bad. I enjoyed looking at the flowers along the way. The park rangers are very friendly and helpful. Just a heads up, there is a $3 charge, per person, to enter the park. Discounts are given to senior citizens, I believe. Overall, it was a great experience. We even got to see dolphins on our trip!

Grand Isle state park is one of the Louisiana beachfront vacation destination. This place is perfect for Summer time weekend gateway. You can experience gulf of mexico, and you can wade into the water most of any time of year. You will see lots of productive fishermen caring wild fishes. Liked this place, it has long wide beaches and not too deep water. This place is good for camping, fishing, bringing your kids.

It’s definitely worth the visit if you are going to visit Grand Isle. It’s very scenic and has a nice long pier to walk out on and enjoy the views. We went on a Monday which was nice because it wasn’t crowded which made it very peaceful and relaxing. The tower was pretty cool and gave you nice views from every side. I have added a lot of pictures so you can get a good idea of what it’s like! Definitely worth the $3 per person to explore the state park. There is a trail which goes around the park as well.

Our experience was rather meh!Only 2 picnic tables out by the water. Our bodies were covered in black dirt under our bathing suits! The bathroom & shower area were very clean and we were glad for that. The drive out to the park was the most picturesque part of the whole trip.

As of this time they are still working on the park other restrooms and slowly work on fixing the other areas of the park. The hurricane Ida did a little number to the park. We RV here for 14 days and had an absolute wonderful place.Restrooms: Clean and plenty of showers. Laundry has two washers and dryers.Dog-friendliness: In the park, but no pets allowed on the beach.

It's not really that big of a park, and at first thought it seems that you'd run out of places to explore fairly quickly. But it definitely has its own beauty. Besides, who doesn't enjoy hanging out in the Gulf of Mexico? Pelicans, porpoises, observation towers, amazing piers, a nice (short) trail, clean shower/rest rooms and fishing all combine for 4.5 stars. So I'll round up to 5. We caught it at the end of a very rainy few days, and some sites we're a bit swampy as a result. This is low land. The town is nice, has a couple grocery's and a few restaurants. The only blight is the oil refinery which isn't visible from the campground, but you may hear if not running a fan. I imagine this can be a bustling place in season, but my mid-Nov trip was very peaceful. Will come back for longer. Hope you enjoy.

This is a great place to go for a private beach excursion. I will start with the positives: very private, options for amenities, inexpensive, not far from New Orleans, and you can camp right on the beach and have your own camp fire. I gave this 4 stars, which is not the fault of Grand Isle, but the fact they are a victim of circumstance, because I did find multiple tar balls on the beach. This of course is from the BP oil spill a few years ago not too far off this stretch of gulf coast. Lots of history to learn and little spots to explore, worth an overnight camp trip from Nola, just don't plan on going in the dirty water that much.

The Grand Isle State Park was nice, clean, and provided restrooms, picnic tables, an observation tower, and a pier. The cost of a day pass was $3 per person. The best part of our visit, besides the walk on the very quiet beach, was seeing a pod of dolphin from the pier. There are several little spots to pull into from the main road to get beach access before arriving at the park. It might be worth stopping at one of those to see if they are nice enough to meet your needs before paying admission at the state park.

This place is good for driving experience on the sea bridge to reach the island. We are 3 adults with 2 kids went for tour on DEC 25, 2018 visited this place. The state park members arranged 3 different views to see the beach. We enjoyed beach environment. This management need to take care about tourism by improved facilities. This place is just sea with no attractions. Our kids played In the white sand and sea tides. You have to buy the 3$ entry fee per person to go inside of the place to access the Beach. The address of the location is - 108 ADMIRAL CRAIK DR, GRAND ISLE LA 70358. The receptionist at desk is so kind and helped us lot to find the accommodation and guidance what to see. This is Good for one Time visit when you plan trip to NEW ORLEANS, LA

I did not expect it to be so nice. Great views from the observation tower, the long fishing pier, and lots of scenery. The drive from New Orleans took slightly less than two hours but was filled with many sights, and views of the water, plus some cute small towns. There were several food options about 1 mile from the park.

Love this place. Locals are always super nice. Quiet and relaxed. They have come along way since the last hurricane tried to destroy them

Super nice lady in the gate house but the park was huge disappointment for us . Basically closed down due to storm damage. The Campground seemed kinda plain but not bad for the money. Showers and bathrooms were decent. A long drive for not much.

Awesome place and tent beach camping best of all! Highly recommend. Met only super nice folks and had a lot of peaceful time as well. The sunsets and sunrises are fantastic - many nights a sunset on one side and the moon rising on the other.$18 per night for beach camping.Check out ThePentUpAngler on YouTube for a more detailed review.

Not pleased: The alert says boardwalks closed, they don't say difficult or no access to beach. Only one washroom open and it is in poor shape, ceiling tiles missing, falling down in poor repairThey are adding/fixing a 5th floor on a lookout tower??? Could easily fix the boardwalks for that cost. No Pets on beach signs everywhere for beach. They could easily make a trail a few hundred feet to the public beach. Don't let the asphalt pads fool you. Our site 44 was so badly flooded after a little rain we required a long 2x8 to get out of the trailer. It has nowhere to drain. Mosquitos were terrible. The only nice thing about this place is going to the public beach with your dog, but you have to drive a short distance.

We went to the State Park. The toll is 3.50 per person, if I remembered correctly. There was no charge for my 2 year old. You must park by them camping grounds towards the right when entering. The bath house is available to use but you cannot use that to cross on the beach. For the most part , the beach was cleaned and we had a great day. Heads up the walk was a little challenging if you're dragging something along with you. Big wheels on wagons and ice chest coolers are a must and try to find hard spots to walk for an easier walk. Thank me later.

Probably the best state park we've been to. Not sure if its kept so well due to less people in these Covid times but, my goodness, what a great clean beach area! We live in New Orleans and went down for the first time a week ago and enjoyed it so much that we went back yesterday! We are also planning to go again in 2 weeks. The staff if friendly and it looks like they have some great camping spots too!Be warned though that Grand Isle is very flippant about taking precautions due to Covid. If you are cautious in your own safety, you'll want to bring your own food as the restaurants near this park are very concerning.
