Traditional plantation house with full guided tour. Great to hear about the evolved design of the house and the activities of its owners. Landscaped grounds are lovely to walk through. We understand that this house had a good relationship with its slaves and gifted them land when the regime came to an end, therefore there isn't so much on the history of slavery it's very much about the house.Allow a couple of hours to visit. There is also a cafe. At the time of our visit it closed at 2pm, had assumed it might be open later and this is the only food outlet so keep the timings in mind.Note the Great River Road museum is not included in the main house ticket price, we decided not to pay the extra.

20240329 Everyone is so nice here. The VIKING Cruise was here today, and there was a tour group. This garden is beautiful! Dogfriendly too!! There is a cost for admissions, but if you eat at the Carriage House, admission is free. We did have lunch there. The food and service were excellent! Walk across the red Bridge from the parking lot will take you closer to the Mississippi River where the VIKING Cruise Ship docked.

After moving away from Ascension Parish nearly 25 years ago, I wanted to share memories from my childhood with my husband when we returned home this Christmas. Houmas House did not disappoint!! It was better than I remembered. It is obvious the current owner Kevin has invested time and resources into the house and grounds, not to mention the addition of the amazing museum and restaurants! We have toured homes around the world and to see this jewel a few miles from my childhood home was incredible. It was also heartwarming to hear that the beautiful murals in the main foyer are the work of Craig Black, the caretaker from the'80s that is a very accomplished artist.Ruby was our tour guide today, very informative and personable. She gave the perfect mix of past and present to the tour.We look forward to stopping in on our next Visit home.

My visit to Houmas House and Gardens was a delightful escape into the charm of the Old South. The lush gardens surrounding the antebellum mansion were a sight to behold, offering a serene and picturesque backdrop. The guided tour through the mansion was informative and gave a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the era. What sets this plantation apart is the attention to detail and the dedication to preserving its history. The cuisine at the on-site restaurant was exquisite, offering a taste of Southern culinary traditions. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or just a peaceful day out, Houmas House and Gardens is a lovely destination to explore and enjoy.

We love this place, we’ve stayed there a few times. Love the rooms, the grounds are beautiful and the food is great ( especially the breakfast). You must do the house tour, and visit the museum, all of the staff are super nice. Last year we went around Christmas time and it was decorated beautifully. We’re going back in December this year. I believe it’s going to be a tradition.

Exquisite restored antebellum mansion and playfully designed grounds filled with eclectic art. Also, excellent food and drink, a museum, and comfy rooms in cabins arranged along a gorgeous oak alley. Highest recommendation.

This was our first plantation tour of our week-long trip. Overall, it was a great experience, and our guide, Ruby, was excellent. She was able to answer most of the questions posed to her and did answer all questions related to the estate. We were surprised to learn that the current owner actually lives there and more surprised that he allowed the tour through his private rooms. The gardens were absolutely gorgeous and had a wide variety of plants and wildlife. The admission price was a little steep, but learning the history around that particular piece of property was priceless.

This historical site is just magical! The gardens and mansion is over the top gorgeous! The guide was wonderful. I am really disappointed to have missed the Museum that was built. It sounds amazing. They allowed my little dog on the tour with me. I chose to carry her so she would not have a potty incident. But every little detail was beyond impressive. This is the best of all the plantations to explore!

This was an excellent plantation tour. Huge parking lot with ample room. We bought tickets online for a certain time for the tour. The grounds were impeccable. Beautifully groomed and well cared for. Beautiful lake with swans, geese, and ducks. We had an excellent tour guy. He knew his stuff. Great historical stories to go along with the facts of the home. Each room was carefully decorated to the period and some with original furniture.Very friendly people as well.Tour took about 1:10. We walked the grounds a bit so the whole visit was about 1:40.Oh forgot the nice little kitty to greet you when u get there.

What an awesome experience! Went with my family and we loved it. Lots to see. The house tour was easy and the guide was great. Learned a lot. The gardens you walk through on your own. Enjoyed that too. Went have a drink at the Turtle Bar. Felt nice to sit inside out of the heat. The giftshop has so much stuff there. We bought a couple of things there. This is my third plantation visit. The other two, Oak Alley and Nottoway. This tour and plantation ground is the best one out of the three. I'd recommend coming here.

Not enough room to appreciate this gorgeous piece of history. Guide was educated, funny and informative. Grounds are immaculate. Wish we had scheduled all day here. Lunch on site delicious. Museum and Inn will be next visit. Great for family tours. Parking plentiful. Some stairs. Gift shop well stocked. Put this on your bucket list.

Unbeknownst to us, the time slot we booked was for a ‘spooky’ tour. Unfortunately, our schedule did not allow us to change times. While the guide did share a good amount of history with us, the ghost stories that were shared felt a bit cliche. Perhaps we just aren’t true believers in this type of thing. The grounds and garden are beautiful and definitely worth a visit as they are very well maintained. Perhaps a regular tour would have made our experience better.

Great tour of the house. Our guide, Darren, explained the history of the important objects and paintings in the building, as well as how the building has been modified over time by different people. Very kind guy. Let me play the piano, and I felt so honored. The garden is absolutely EXTRAORDINARY!! So much detail, texture, and uniqueness to explore. Beautiful architecture.Deserves these 5 stars.
