The staff is very friendly and helpful. Some indoor/ outdoor kennels and some covered outdoor kennels.Today all dogs were puppies and separated in several covered outdoor kennels with the nice weather.I don’t understand the commotion below about excessive paperwork. The application is two pages and much of it is “check the box” type questions.I think it would be irresponsible to allow an adoption without understanding the home environment, other pets in the home, and expected living arrangements for the pet.I think Murray-Calloway County Animal Shelter does an excellent job finding good full time homes for these animals.

The adoption process was quick, and I will get a significant refund after getting Lila (aka Fannie Farkle) spayed. So many gorgeous and sweet animals ready to be adopted. Thanks to the friendly staff for introducing me to the animals. We are simply over the moon for our sweet Lila!

The staff at the local shelter are amazing. They care very deeply for each and every animal that enters their building. The cages are always well maintained and clean. The animals are always well cared for. We're lucky to have such an amazing group of people helping our local animals.

Responsive, kind and very friendly. I used petfinder to find her, 100 miles and 2 states away we found our new love! I will highly recommend this facility to everyone. Love the fact they micro chip and update and treat any problems. Also a 80 dollar refund of the deposit if you get them fixed within a certain time frame. The facility was clean,and odor free!!!

Spent 15 minutes getting a dog off the highway that was 1 minute outside of Hazel KY. Called them to see if I could bring the dog to them and they said yes.They take all my information and I relinquish the dog to them. 30 minutes later the director calls me, and tells me since I was not in Calloway (I just moved here I didn't realize I was 1 minute away from Calloway) I was responsible for the dog and was expected to take it all the way to Paris TN. When I told them I couldn't do that, they got snippy and said that they would have to find someone else to do it. It was very unprofessional and a good way to deter people from doing good deeds.

Wonderful and caring animal shelter. I only wish it was a no kill shelter! The closest is a 45-minute drive from Murray, KY!

An ok shelter, but they seem to only take in animals to re home if they need to be fixed first so they make extra money. Too much bureaucracy invovled in adopting as well. I just adopt from Facebook on people getting rid of animals for free without having to provide my whole life story on paper.

Very nice people!! The adoption process was fairly quick. Took me about a week to be able to meet my new pup (virus ugh) and maybe 30 min to pick her up and bring her home. She looked very well cared for! Thank you guys!

Do not go there unless you want to fill out your whole life history and all you vet records and everything you do in a day with your pets at your home. That is all you have to do to even look at a dog. I recommend not going here.

Only rating this a 1 star because zero is not an option. I have been going there for many days running back and forth trying to figure out how to adopt two specific cats. As I am 19, and cannot adopt due to their policy, my mother has agreed to adopt and take sole responsibility for the cats. I had my mother fill out an application that I dropped off to the shelter and waited for approval. I had spent roughly 5-6 minutes talking to the woman in charge about the adoption process, and told her that I was informed prior to that day that I was able to make an $80 deposit if I had a clinic outside of Murray who would do fix the animals, and receive my deposit once I proved of doing that. She then told me that was not correct information and the employee who told me that was misinformed. She said I needed to call a vet in Murray that could do it prior to pick up. The vet I got in contact with said they would not be able to do it within the next two days, and I had been told that the animal shelter doesn’t do holds (which I was informed later that they do if vet appointments had been made). I did not want to be the middle man anymore and had my mother call the place to be walked through the adoption process, but was told she would be called back. That never happened. The next day, prior to opening the shelter to the public, the female in charge had allowed a rescue (from Chicago)to take all of the cats, knowing that I/my mom was in the process of adoption. We had never been confirmed nor denied, but were expected to go ahead and schedule an appointment. Why would we schedule an appointment to have two cats fixed BEFORE we were approved? We would still be required to pay. When I asked her that on the phone the day after, she avoided the question and proceeded to tell me 1.) she shouldn’t be discussing this with me because I was not of age to adopt (although she claimed to my mother that she had given me all of the information about the adoption process and it was my fault I miscommunicated) and 2.) continued to tell me no matter what she said I was going to disagree with, to which I then said “ma’am, I’m not disagreeing with you, I’m asking you questions” she had told my mom on the phone I had been told I was approved, yet I was never informed of this. And I’m sure it was to cover the fact that she had messed up. Overall, I am highly dissatisfied with the woman for being snotty “professional” on the phone, put me on speakerphone while she had clients at the door, spoke over me on multiple occasions and went around the questions I asked, lied both to my mother and to me over what information she gave each of us, refused to call my mother back but tells me in the phone she expected my mother to contact her the day the rescue came in BEFORE they even opened, changed the information they provided me with to play it into their benefit, and adopting out the cats I had been highly interested in although I followed all steps on my end and could do nothing more because I am “too yong to talk to about this”The looks of the shelter, both inside and out, provide a very good insight as to how their boss is. Absolutely disgusting.For adoptions, I will be going to the humane society.

Great helpful employees. Answered all my questions and went the extra mile to assist me in my search of a dog or cat. I wish all employees were like them. If looking for an animal to adopt go to their shelter. Give an animal a "Forever Home". I will definitely tell anyone who asks me to go there first and you might go home with a dog or cat. Really fantastic experience.Update as of 6/13/17. I adopted a cat who is in love with my wife which is perfect and what I wanted. She has really helped my wife who is disabled. I also adopted a dog. Run don't walk to this shelter to find your forever friend.Sorry but I must give them 1 Star. This concerns a cat named Garfield. Day before Thanksgiving 2019 I asked about the cat. Was told to call back the Monday after Thanksgiving and Garfield was available. Called later that day and was told someone was interested but to check back Tues. which I did. Woman never came so Garfield was available. I asked if they could take him to the vet to check for feline Leukemia. Assured they would probably be able to do so. Called Wed. night and was told they couldn't do it BUT THE CAT WAS MINE. I was told I could take Garfield and have a vet check him out. NO PROBLEM. I explained that due to a family situation I couldn't get there until that Thursday after Meals On Wheels came.. I called at around 11 A.M said I was leaving to pick up Garfield. I called and was told a nice gentleman came in and ADOPTED GARFIELD. Said they would have to talk to the Director who was out all week because of some kind of emergency. Sorry but first come first served. I explained that I was told that no notes were around to say the cat was mine. That cat was promised to me. My wife is seriously ill without going into details and Garfield was going to be her surprise XMAS present. My wife is Very upset and angry. This thing went on since the day before Thanksgiving. WHY WASN'T A NOTE PUT ON GARFIELDS CAGE STATING HE WAS UNAVAILABLE BECAUSE HE WAS SPOKEN FOR?? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ERROR AND WHAT IS THE DIRECTOR GOING TO DO TO MAKE SURE OTHER PEOPLE DON"T GO THRU WHAT I DID. The animals deserve better. You wonder why people spend $$ for animals on line from other shelters. This shelter in Murray is a KILL SHELTER. You figure you're saving a life and you get situation like that. KARMA is a B****. What goes around comes around. Trust me . There goes XMAS and the wife still wants GARFIELD. A total house cleaning is in order. Every one who screwed up weather a VOLUNTEER OR A PAID EMPLOYEE need to be IMMEDIATELY FIRED. If they can't even handle a simple situation by notifying the front desk and putting a note on a cage Very sad and speaks volumes about the shelter.

I adopted the perfect tuxedo cat a few days ago. The staff was very nice and helpful. The shelter was clean. All the animals were in clean cages with bedding, food and water.

Wont take the animal in because it has no training to say your a capacity is one but to obligate someone who can’t keep the dog due to circumstances and the only option is to put it down

Nice place, the animals that I had seen were in a nice, clean room. The staff was very friendly and gave great answers when questions were asked about the animals and how to go about possibly adopting an animal.
