Dr Maddux does an excellent job working on my equines. She is very knowledgeable and explains issues and treatments well. Dr Maddux also went above and beyond treating my dog, giving me useful advice over the phone after hours as well as correctly diagnosing and treating the issue, when I brought the dog to the practice.

Absolutely TERRIBLE service. If you love your animals, DO NOT take them to this clinic, even if they're the closest clinic to you, don't risk it.I took my senior dog here because we were new to the area and needed a local vet. I regret that, to the utmost degree. My pup tore both CCL's, the left one first and then the right, only within a week of each other, a couple of years ago. $6000 later, she had two surgeries and began the healing process. I was truly satisfied with my vet in Kansas City because he always called to speak to me personally about her care.Not here. The most you'll get is a phone call from the office manager, who should be fired. When we came here, this vet agreed to keep her on the same medication she's been on for 2+ years. However, their office did not call it in to the right pharmacy and ended up blaming ME for it, postponing my dogs treatment because it was inconvenient for them. The office manager, Cassandra, LAUGHED at me and said "that's not our problem, ma'am." She's in your care, IT IS YOUR PROBLEM. I decided right then and there, never again will my baby be treated this way.If you look at the other reviews, you'll see a common theme and the positive ones? They're written by the clinic's staff and their family/friends. They are not unbiased or truthful. If you're an "outsider," be expectant of being treated like garbage. I hope that soon enough, this place will be shut down and their reputations ruined.

Cares more about the money than the animals . Literally watched as my friends cat died in her arms while crying asking them to save the cat. Nope wanted all the funds up front that min. She's been going to them for awhile and just shilled out 200 a couple weeks before for the same cat and meds. Smh shame.

Dr. Shemwell is a great vet with lots.of experience. He takes equally good care of both small animals and large ones. He has stalls for horses onsite as well. He is very kind and compassionate and importantly he is very reasonably priced. His hours are great too. 8-6.

They were amazing with my scared pansy of a dog. Lol he's was a very unruly patient and they handled him so well. Both ladies were very polite and talked so gentle to him. I was the one scolding him. "No pup cup for you!".

They handled our cat so well. We appreciate their care and expertise. Unfortunately we are still waiting for test results for Joey (our cat). It's likely cancer which is heart breaking but would rather know for sure sooner than later.

Dr. Shemwell and Dr. Maddox are both incredible veterinarians! They have treated all of our pets for the past eight years with love and compassion in a very professional and friendly manner. The 45 minute drive one way is well worth it!!!Recently one of our pups required critical care after being gored by a buck. During his seven day stay with them, Dr. Maddox went above and beyond to provide the best care possible! She called us three times a day with options or updates. She was always very straightforward and encouraging. He is almost fully recovered!!The entire staff have so much love for all of the critters that come through their doors!We are so thankful to have you all caring for our fur babies!!

I didn't feel like I was informed prior to or post op on my dog's surgery. I felt like I was imposing for asking questions. I had been recommended to see Dr. Maddux, but never got the opportunity to talk with her.

I have NOTHING BAD to share about the animal shelter.It's always well kept. Clean looking. Clean smell. And animals are taken care of from what I have noticed. He's always diligent about helping.On a personal note, PLEASE CHECK YOUR LOCAL SHELTERS FOR ANY MISSING ANIMALS YOU MAY HAVE NOT FOUND. THE CHIPS ARE A WONDERFUL IDEA.... ALSO, ANY DAY IS A GOOD DAY TO GO VISIT THE SHELTER AND ADOPT YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND. OR VOLUNTEER TO HELP TAKE THE LOAD OFF THE REGULAR WORKERS THERE.

I have taken my pets to this clinic for years and I loved Doc and his staff! However, after having dealt with the new Drs and staff, I’m never going back. They are rude and lack compassion and have zero appreciation for the client. I was promised phone calls that never came, I waited on a prescription refill for almost 30 minutes even though it had been called in days prior. In a separate incident, I called the office and after stating my reasons for the call, I was bluntly told that my less than $25 balance would have to be cleared before anything else could be done and when I questioned the charge, was put on hold and after some time got an excuse for their accounting mistake instead of an apology. This new bunch is AWFUL! Unprofessional and uncaring. Maybe it’s different if you have horses or if they feel you and your pet are worthy of their time. But my experience, was terrible.

They are doing all they can with the resources they are given. I think its a shame that we don't have stricter pet ownership laws then the shelters have to pick up the tab on owner irresponsibility. Please help them financially or adopt don't buy. I hate when people complain about shelter conditions but do nothing to support their local shelter. I have had plenty good experiences with this shelter over the years.

I had a very dear pet who come down ill. I took him to our normal vet and he got us to pay $150 a month for Premarin that our dog was dying and he'd never recover. I heard great things about shemwell and after our visit it turned out that my dog was just old and overweight. He ended up passinga year or so later but not from what the original vet had said. Thank God for Dr. Shemwell!!!

This place is garbage! They almost killed my dog f4om neglectful practice and lying about what they actually did for him. This vet is a hack and should be shut down! They sent my poor puppy home covered in his own vomit and fiecies he was also infested with fleas which weren't there when we dropped him off. Kept my dog for 5 days and then when I asked what the deal was all they could say was "that's parvo" no parvo does not cause a professionally train vet to allow patients to stew in there own filth for days while they pretend they're actually doing something! Th3n when I asked for a refund they called the cops on me!!! Terrible very unprofessional business! I wouldn't take my animals there for anything serious if you want them to survive!! I wish I could give this pathetic excuse for a veterinary clinic 0 stars cause they don't even deserve 1!!

This place is a God send! If your in Illinois but close enough to Kentucky what you spend in gas you will save in outrageous vet bills!
