Just got a puppy and this place will for sure be our vet for a long time! We didn't meet the doctor and I wish I could remember our nurses name. She was so nice and informative! Definitely made us feel comfortable about concerns with the new pup! 5 stars!

Amazing and caring staff, everyone from the first person that greets you when you walk in to the person that you pay when you leave is kind, compassionate and caring. I brought my cat in for the first time they were thorough, and made sure they figured out what was wrong with her, they also fit her in for surgery the same day. The vet (Dr. Scott) was very gentle and kind with my cat and very patient and understanding with me. I would recommend this animal hospital to anyone!

I called to inquire about prices such as initial visit, labs, shots, etc. The person on the phone said they don’t post their prices online nor give pricing over the phone but they currently have a special for $35 office visits. I asked if I could make an appointment and was told that it’s first come first served as long as I’m there and signed in before 6pm. It was 4pm so I went there, gave my information and expected to be put on the waiting list but was told it would be $100+ just to be seen. I explained that I had just called, showed her the phone number I called and the website and she said she wasn’t sure who told me that but that isn’t accurate but yes, the number and website were correct. I will be finding a new vet in town that can accurately and clearly give pricing information instead of luring people in with one price only to be given a price more than double when they get there.

Took my 9 year old Penny here when she woke up with a swollen face and her vet that she has seen all her life all the sudden doesn't do emergency visits !! I absolutely love this place.From the moment I called to everything in-between everyone was so nice and caring. Perfect for people who's schedules are crazy . You sign your fur baby in go home and they call you when its time to bring your fur baby in . When waiting to be called back on our first vist a couple emergencies came in and they took them straight back so it made the wait a little longer but it made my heart happy and I wouldn't want it any other way if my baby needed them right away .So thankful for all the staff at Shively animal clinic. It wasn't a hard decision to make this my fur babies new vet.

I have been going to shively for 20 years. 5 years when I had a rabbit and a guinea pig and for the past 15 years with my dog SNOOP. Yesterday I had to put him down and there was a sweet lady named Ashley that helped us with another nurse. I always receive checkup calls the next day,every time my pets were seen in their office & recommend them for their rates as well. Thank you and God Bless ALL of You All.

My cat was hit by a car he was truly lucky he only had his hip out of place and some road rash. I took him on Christmas Eve they were busy as usual but because of timing we didn't have to leave and come back the wait was not bad and he had to stay overnight which I was a mess but the Dr was great they kept me informed the whole time and after he's been home they have called and checked on him. I love the staff and Drs. My mother and I both take our dogs and my cat there I will go to them before anyone else.

This clinic was amazing. We had a very sick sugar glider that was in crisis and they were able to get us in fast on a very busy Saturday. Unfortunately they diagnosed it as cancer and he passed away a short time later. They still were very professional and had the proper equipment, knowledge, and expertise to diagnose this exotic animal. They even called back on Monday to check on him.

Have used this place for 20+ years for all of our animals! The wait times are insane so be sure to go check in when they open (no over-the-phone accepted). Unless you plan on staying on-site to wait, your fur baby doesn't need to be present when checking in. They then call you to come in when they get to your place in line. Upon arriving, check in at the desk, and you get called back to a room within 20 mins. They have the best care for animals, by far, and the cheapest you will find anywhere in Louisville.

I took my dog there for a ear infection . He is a big strong German shepherd. They were good about communicating how the procedure would be handle on my baby and very nice and friendly. My 1st time there thank all the staff . I appreciate love and the staff kindness given to my dog and me

If you can come in the minute they open to get on the list, you will be golden. The wait tends to be long, but the care they provide to your fur baby is top notch. Their rates are amazing compared to other vets in the area. I considered going elsewhere and I'm so glad that I didn't. I'll gladly wait for the Drs and staff at shively.

I have been going to Shively Animal Clinic for at least 18 years. Dr Mary Jane, Dr Joyce, and all the doctors there have always been wonderful, helpful and accommodating. I've had 2 dogs pass away while with them and they showed me love, compassion and comfort. The office even sent me a Sympathy Card on the loss of my most recent baby, Lexie in October 2023. I'm known as the lady who takes in the difficult dogs and I have 2 right now. The staff keep me upbeat and laughing every time I'm there. The Front Office Staff are kind, efficient, very communicative and always willing to help out in finding a solution. Although the wait for care may be long, and I've waited as long as 6-8 hours, I don't mind because they always make it up with outstanding service. If you can see past the wait time, Shively Animal Clinic is the best place in Louisville to take your animals.

I checked in at 7am. Was called to come back at 12:15pm. Sat in the parking lot for 3 HOURS before they called us in. Completely defeats the purpose of waiting at home until they’re ready. Will not be going back! Finding a new vet. Ridiculous.

Update she went to another vet this morning 4/30/24. Unfortunately her dog had to be euthanized because these heartless fools in the office could care less about an animals saftey.I was on the phone with a customer who walked in with her dog tonight 4/29/24. Staff was short and rude with her insisting she owed $86 from 2000 or 2001. Her dog may be dying and they pretty much refused to even see the poor baby. Once she questioned the $86 the staff then turned around and said oh well we can't see the animal tonight because of a surgery we are doing. Why wasn't that the 1st thing said? It seems shady to me not to mention the fact that Grace has been there numerous times since 2000 and never once had anything said about a past due balance. Staff couldn't get a false charge from her so the resorted to lying about a surgery. If you care about your animals stay away from this place. Vets should care about the animals. I know where I'm from they would have rushed to see that baby right away. Staff -10 out of 10. Run don't walk from this place. I've never heard any vet talk to someone the way that lady talked to Grace tonight.

Ive taken 2 diff pets there for procedures and I've worked there as well. They are family owned ,2 sisters and a brother and they are all good people . The doctors are especially dedicated. They do not go home until every pet (they use more endearing terms) has been seen and or diagnosed at least. It's more than a business to them by far.

Had to take our rabbit Spirit in for he had an eye infection. Thanks to the staff he's doing much better. The staff is always kind even though you have a pretty good wait time this is the only place I know that I can bring our pets since others are a pretty good distance away for which we have no car and TARC doesn't allow pets on the bus. Lyfts and Uber can get pretty pricey.

Me and my wife been going there for a couple years now. They do a good job with taking care of our dog but the people with the reception every time I come I just don't get the right service. I feel like she did. Maybe it's because I'm black. I don't know but I just don't get the right service I think I should get is as if I'm a problem with something but if my wife goes it's all nice and smooth and maybe that's just the way it is the way life is now white people just always gone feel different with black people.

Although I hate the long wait it is worth it. I love this place, and the people who work there are very kind. They helped me know when it was time to let my old dog go and made that experience peaceful. When my other dog developed pancreatitis they did everything possible to make her life comfortable. The doctor and staff showed respect and compassion when I put her to sleep. I given the opportunity to be with be with both dogs when they left me and I'll be forever grateful for care and treatment they received.

Love the caring people that work at Shively Animal Clinic… they have cared for my many animals over the years from puppy till senior. The system can be tricky for some to understand, I usually bring my pet first thing in the morning and get on the schedule and wait to be called back. It’s that simple..I also order refills of pet meds and have them shipped.. great place ❤️

Although Athena is very happy to be home, I can tell she was taken care of every second she was there. Huge shout out to the staff for having patience with me and my fur-baby, for doing her surgery and for being so incredibly nice! Alex was a huge help in getting me information and talking over the phone after her surgery. God bless the surgeon, the dr we saw before and the techs/assistants that helped with my girl. You guys ROCK! 🏼

A dear friend went in with her dog. The staff was very rude and insisted she owed a balance of $86 from 2000 then just said they can’t look at her. She went to a different vet this morning and it was too late. She lost her dog because you flat refused to even look at her. SHAME ON YOU

As far as I am aware, there are only 2 places that look after birds in Louisville, this is one of them. I went in for my two budgies' first check up (I was worried over their beaks being kinda dry as well). They are my first birds, so I am super nervous about taking care of them.The staff (nurses?) were super helpful and the doctor was very informative. She gave me some well needed bird tips!My only complaint is that they do not do appointments. I've no idea why, but the wait was about one hour even with them being busy.

They are a check in and wait kind of vet!!! NO APPOINTMENTS!!!!I went for a check up with my leopard gecko and I live about an hour plus away. So with a decent drive ahead I woke up early and got to the vet. It was a 6 hr plus wait and that's what everyone heard didn't matter if you were first or fifth. The positive side of this vet is that they will take you as long as you sign in before 4 o'clock and it doesn't matter if they have to see you at 12 at night they will. Now I got there and I signed in and they tell me I can go home. I get back to the house and finally get the txt hours later. Sadly I couldn't get back that same day. Luckily they told me I could come back the next day and they would get me in within 30-45 minutes. I got there at 11:30 the doctor was expecting me and after I signed in she took my gecko to the incubator and said she would be back to get me in a room. Now when someone says that that usually means hey ill be right back and get you. NO! She came back to get me an hour or so later after helping someone else. I feel I would have had a better experience if there was better communication. The within 30-45 minutes came to about 2-3 hours at the clinic and the checkup didn't take to long at all.

Unless you're one of the first people in the door you're going to have a wait, but they are so popular for a reason.They are the best priced vet I know of, and are super caring. They've been wonderful with us as we've brought numerous pets here over the years.

I have been to Shively Animal Hospital a few times in the last 9 months. All visits & experiences have been amazing. The Dr.s & staff really DO CARE ABOUT YOU & YOUR BABIES!!!! They saved the life of my Babygirl was had aspiration pneumonia. I had little hope the first 24 hrs. They were very caring, compassionate & to the point about everything she would need to try to live for the next day. I've also had 3 other of my babies here, they too had excellent care.I couldn't say enough of kind words about this Veterinarian Clinic & Hosiptal. You may have to sign in, then go home & they will call you to come back for your appointment. THEIR ALSO CHEAPER THAN OTHER VET! It is first come first serve but its worth the wait...I PROMISE!!!!!!

Shively did an exceptional job with our boys. They were recommended to us because our previous vet refused to see our boys unless previously drugged. 1 of the 3 they wouldn't see unless he was completely sedated. I refused to do that. I know my dogs and they are not vicious. They are very spoiled and are used to being treated kindly. We muzzled all 3 of our dogs. 1 was caught up on shots and all of them had their nails trimmed, which my previous vet couldn't do. Shively's staff was patient and asked alot of questions, which made it a great experience for our boys and us. We highly recommend.
