I've been in Fairdale about 10 years. This is a local hardware store of the old American mom 'n pop variety. They don't have everything under the sun, they aren't as cheap as Walmart or whatever, but I'll tell you that when I walk in, someone is always ready to help out and lead me right to what they have on offer. It's closer, much better service, a time-saver and time is money. The owner even gave my new business a nice little project to do there. An asset to the area!

Great experience buying mower parts here that are hard to find anywhere else. I was given great advice and info on how to fix my issue myself. I'll be back whenever I need parts again!

Unfortunately they didn't have what I needed. I was greeted by a friendly employee who seemed more than willing to help me. I think she even liked their job. Nice to see these days. This hardware store had so many things, packed, but not cluttered. I'm glad someone jumped to help me though because I wouldn't have known where to start. Great service.I should note that what I needed was very outdated, but they did have very similar products.

Needed several parts for my Riding lawnmower had them All in stock. This is also a good place to Have your lawn care machines fixed / tuned up, there shop is excellent. Lady behind the service desk got all my parts and helped me carry them to the check out. Very good service.

Everything is overpriced in here, even if they do have what you're looking for, you're better off going to homedepot or lowes.

Nice older hardware store. Got exactly what i was looking for and did not need to go to the big box store! Always a bonus for me.Also! They have very nice firewood.It is all cut to the same length and every piece was split. No round tree limbs! It is sold by the 1/2 or full rick. I got the 1/2 rick. See pic.

Went here to get my mower blade swapped out for my electric mower. They were extremely helpful, polite and affordable. I got turned away from a bunch of other local stores due to them not wanting to touch an electric mower, which was frustrating.Highly recommend this store.

I generally come here for all my hardware needs and they are usually very helpful. The guys are great, however the 2 ladies working today seemed inconvenienced by my asking questions. I dropped off equipment for repair and I hope they are as good at repairing it as their reviews indicate.

Lied and said I dropped my trimmer to try and sell me a carb instead of doing the warranty work and the warranty work they were supposed to do they didn’t. Not exactly sure what they did. Dropped it off July of 21 and was finally able to get it back June of 22. Don’t ever take anything there for warranty work.

Always friendly and helpful, this is truly one of the last few hardware stores where you can go, be know, instantly helped and don't feel rushed. They can answer technical questions about a variety of topics with an impressive breath of knowledge. If you want the true feel for how this nearly bygone era of service feels then check them out for yourself. Same can be said about the rest of the Phelps Hardware stores. Excellent service, excellent quality, no exceptions. Thanks for being great.

I don't really go anywhere else for my equipment or hardware needs unless they don't have what I need. This small family owned business goes above and beyond for customer satisfaction. They treat you like family and do their best to accommodate your needs. If they don't have it, they know where to send you to get it.

These guys do HONEST business. I took my push mower in for repair because it wouldn't start. The guy at the counter "Doug" immediately recognized that the spark plugs was disconnected and told me. Some places might have just told me that the head gasket was blown and charged me $100. I went ahead and spent some money while I was there just to show my appreciation. Highly recommend this place!

For Rentals and "quirky" products a great place to shop.For service and repairs don't be in any hurry or expect a call telling you that your equipment is ready. I can say I have been treated nicely, but the level of professionalism could use a lot of work.For warranty work you must have your receipt. The date of Manufacture/model/serial number will not suffice. Luckily the store I purchased from had an electronic copy of the receipt as I did register the product. Otherwise I would have been out of luck.You also have to specify exactly what you want fixed. This can be nice if you only want certain things done and don't want a suprise list of parts and charges. In my case I didn't know what needed to be done. I requested they make it like new. (my equipment is less than a year old).I had this mower in for engine issues and when i got it back the self propelled feature didn't work even though the engine now ran fine. Took it back and a week and a half later I am still waiting for my mower. Hoping I don't get a bill for something they forgot to hook back up from the first service as there was never an issue with the self propelled feature.I would use them again (even though it is inconvenient for me to get to their location) unless I get billed for the fix to the first service.

Full disclosure here, I grew up the son of a local hardware store owner. My father to this very day owns one in a different county. I called and spoke to someone on the phone to see if they carried Husqvarna trimmers and the model I was looking for, which they did. When I arrived at the store, after driving nearly 18 miles rather than 12.5 to Southern Indiana Equipment so that I may keep the money local, I walked in was asked if I needed assistance. I stated what I was looking for and I was told I needed a mask. Confused, I asked for what. I was told that to be in the store, I must wear a mask. I stated I did not have a mask and pulled my shirt up. I was then told that would not work and I could “buy” a bandanna. I politely declined. Another gentleman, who turned out to be the owner, approached me and stated that the state required it. I informed him that he was not under inspection from the Dept of Health and that was not true. He then offered to sell me a $320 trimmer outside. I stated that he would not be selling me a $320 timer outside and that if I were to buy one it would be inside or I would take my business to Indiana. He said that “I’m trying my best working 14 hour days, and my workers will not come in if I don’t require “costumers to wear mask”. I said I understood and that I would spend my money at a business that did not require this and that I wasn’t sure how many $300+ sales he could walk away from. I spoke to a friend whose father in law walked out as well for the same reason. Advice to the owner...don’t blame others when you go under and don’t blame the Lowe’s or HD. For those that are critical of those that don’t wear masks like Kathy, some of us the ACLU is currently protecting from being discriminated against. There are those due to our disabilities are unable to wear a mask. I’m sure any nurse would know that though.

I called in to ask if a piece of equipment was available for rent. I was told it was available and I mentioned I would be right in. I drove 45 minutes there and was informed that I couldn't have it because it was reserved.She told me that none of the other stores had it either, then she started ringing up the next customer. No apology or anything.Making a mistake is acceptable, but the way she handled it wasn't.

An absolute Gem, this store is not a big brick and mortar, but a small town hardware that harkens back to 'the good ol days'. But dont let the size fool you, any thing you need for a do it yourself project they have and its easy to find. AND free popcorn.

This is the worst shop I have ever seen took a zero turn mower that had already been there once to fix a oil leak and never was fixed. The mower sat there for 21/2 months and when I went to pick it up it was in worse shape than when it went there. Take my advice do not take anything there they couldn't fix a wheelbarrow tire if they had to

I needed help with a Troy-bilt culti ator that I received from a "friend" who said it worked good (1st mistake haha). Gas leaked from the tank and it would not prime itself as it should. I contacted Doug at Phelps hardware who said the hoses had contracted with age, bring in the gas tank and hoses and we'll get you fixed up. He did exactly that - Doug explained to me that the hoses on the unit had been replaced with the wrong size and he showed how to replace the hoses and sold me an air filter (which was also missing).Bottom line - for $5.80 and a drive to the store, I was getting my garden ready for the season. Doug is my new BFF and I have a new hardware to shop - a LOT better than the big box stores Anyday!! Thanks!!!
