Was visiting from out of town driving down the back winding roads and came across two really cute dogs. Took about half an hour to coax them into my vehicle because they were literally scared, starving and so skinny. The people that work here are really nice . They were sympathetic to the animals and seemed very caring. I asked if they could keep them mama with the baby hopefully they were able to do that. If I didn’t live in Arizona I for sure would’ve kept them. They were a little angels.

The staff here is very unfriendly! Especially Roger, after he was rude to me he made his brags to the staff about how he treated me!!! ...word gets around!!! Both of the men at the counter that day were unfriendly. When I commented about them to my friend I was told I was lucky to have them, the woman is a lot worse. Idk I didn’t see her but if she’s worse than them the owners need to clean this place out! People are going to other counties to adopt pets because they don’t want to deal with these folks!

Rescued a cat from the street, very friendly and hungry. I didn't have room for it, but they don't take stray cats apparently. Not a REAL shelter I'm guessing. 🤦♂️😠

This is my go to place for dog license, getting my fur babies chipped and adapting. The director is wonderful and has made some good decisions and changes. They are all good with the animals in making sure they're all taken cared for and loved. They have exceeded my expectations with finding good homes and rescues for the animals. I just want to say that the Madison County Animal Shelter is by far the best care takers for these animals while they're waiting for their furever home. I respect them for what they do for all the animals there.

They never answer the phone. And when they do decide to call you back they don't allow you to speak they just make up some excuse about how they're understaffed.

Typical government employee shenanigans: Staff appears to take random days off and outright close when they are supposed to be open; They often don't pickup the phone; The kennels are not washed often enough and the smell of urine physically irritates the lining of your nostrils. Please consider modified and communicated hours if you do not have the staffing to remain open 5x8, gas is expensive; consider a cordless option for taking calls; and finally; consider washing the kennels more regularly. If it's that bad on a human it's probably much worse on the animals. This is a textbook example of why people do not like bureaucracy; it creates dsyfunction b/c no one cares about standards of service; since there are no competitors.

Just today my husband and I went into drop off donations and ended up going back an hour later to adopt the newest little addition to our family. I am just going to say? The whole experience was worth it. The people there obviously care about the animals and what they do. They were so friendly, talking to us, and making us feel more than welcome. The facility may not smell like a bed of roses (but then again, when you are looking after that many fluffers? Can you blame them) But the place was not at all dirty. It was well maintained and all the animals seemed to be in good spirits. It was an all around good experience and I am so happy that we went!

Very irresponsible operation. Won't spay or neuter animals, only gives them one vaccine, and doesn't give them heartworm or flea prevention so you may unwittingly adopt a dog with heart worms. They also don't bother to groom them, clean them, or clip their nails. They also don't generally test the animals for aggression, etc. As others have said some of the staff is disrespectful to women, including if not especially the "manager."

Always a wonderful experience dealing with any of the staff. No one in that place is rude that's clearly ridiculous to even imply. They enjoy there job and they take wonderful care of the animals or I'm sure they wouldn't be there. And every time iv been in there its been spotless. These animals while waiting for a home are in excellent care... It's probably one of the best in the state. I have been in others. I think we are super lucky to have these guys. My family thanks you!!

We just adopted a wonderful dog from here, and the staff were great. I have no idea why some folks wrote that they did not receive paperwork on the animal they adopted. We were given everything. With that said some animals will not have any documentation depending on how they ended up at the shelter.I would also say that all of these people that posted that it is not clean enough. Why not donate some cleaning supplies instead of complaining? Also, their adoption fees are crazy low, so why complain that your new friend didn't come with enough stuff? If it's important to you, go get it. I brought my own leash. It's not hard.

I got my dog from there and he is a amazing little guy!! Not only did I only have to pay a $25 fee for him, he already had most of his shots excluding the rabies. They gave me a voucher to cover his neuter as well, so all I had to pay for was his rabies shot. It was very worth the drive and if I ever wanted another animal I would go here!

I am the owner of Ellie. When I got Ellie, they handed her to my boyfriend and I, and sent us on our way with no record of shots. The owners and workers are very rude with no care for the animals in the shelter. As no shot records were given, no one would take her in to groom her. When we got her, it was obvious she hadn’t had a haircut in years. Nate and I tried our best to cut her hair ourselves, bathe her every week, etc. Half a year later, my landlord informed me I had to find her a new home. I didn’t have much time, so I had to go to my last resort which was to take her back to the pound. This put knots in my stomach, as I know how sad and un-sanitary the building is. We gave Ellie a loving home, toys, a brand new bed, and all the love and attention she wanted; even got her very own monogrammed stocking for Christmas. When I took her in, the lady was very rude to me making comments as I “neglected Ellie,” or “have you even combed her?” It took a lot not to comment back. As this wasn’t enough for her, she bashed us on the website. The Madison County Animal Shelter is pathetic; even to go as far as they stand in their own urine in their cages. I am so blessed and grateful someone took Ellie in so fast into a loving home, I’m sure of it. To Ellie’s new family: she is the sweetest, loving dog. She will bring so much happiness to her new family! In the all of this review, take your animals to a different shelter. Pathetic, sad, and sorry excuse for any animals to have to experience. To the owners: if you do not like your job and have to make rude comments to grieving owners that have to give up their pet just because you are miserable at your job, please find someone else to take care of these precious animals.

Kristen is doing these poor animals a disservice. I presented all of the vaccine proof and she ghosted me.The process here is no clear and concise on “vaccinations” and to ghost me, psh. Just adopted a cat from Lexington and gave them a $200 donation. These animals want homes, not hurdles.

Women at the desk were super helpful with my dog licenses. Their conversations around the shelter animals gives the impression that they really care.

I adopted my dog from this shelter early in 2013. The facility seemed clean, those working were friendly. I did not see the cats, as they are kept separate from the dogs, but the dogs seemed to be doing okay. It was still sad to see them all locked up, but they didn't seem mistreated in anyway.

Not the most modern facility. Sadly, lots of dogs needing homes. Staff is great, dedicated, and very nice. New coordinator has great ideas to improve things for these fur babies. Adopt, don't shop.

Is there an option for no stars??? There are no volunteers allowed at this shelter, the hold period is despicably short, and they adopt dogs out for a flat $25 dollar fee....no shots, dewormer, spay/neuter, or microchip. Despicable. IF there were an option to give it less than one star, I would give it negative!! Volunteers have tried to work with this shelter, but they would rather kill dogs and cats than give them a chance at a loving home!

They said they would take a cat and babies for free .Then some lady got on the phone and said i would have to pay 50 dollars and 20 per kitten because last year i didnt bring a cat in .I have only lived here for 90 days she was rude and told me it was my problem.I took the cat in because she was about to have babies and it was 15 degrees out side. I guess i should have left her outside i wouldnt have this problem

This shelter is 0 help after business hours with stray animals. What's the point of an animal shelter if you can only go when most people are at work

Got a dog from here and he wound up being overly aggressive and biting me.... hard. almost had to get stitches. We called to see if they knew of any history of aggression and the lady working was rude and not helpful at all.
