The Harlan County Animal Shelter does not euthanize animals as reported by some people. They try their best to place animals through rescue groups and adoption. The adoption fees include spaying or neutering of the animal also. They shelter is also using a program of catch and release after spaying or neutering cats to control the pet population. The fees for adoption are the same in most shelters that try to place the animals in good homes. We have one of the best shelters in the state.

Extremely poor service ! I've called several times to try and get help for my neighbors who have abandoned their large dog. It's always loose and without proper food or water. They never show up! NEVER! I've even contacted our judge and they still never showed up with a trap cage they flat told me they would put out !!! Why have a job ! If ur not going to do ur JOB!!! As of this day this dam dog is still running loose causing my fence damage!!! Come get this dam dog!!!!!!!

Well this shelter needs a lot of love. Please donate to the Harlan County Friends of the Shelter, all donations are appreciated and needed. The Friends transports animals from Harlan to Chicago where there is a shortage of adoptable ani.als, but it takes dedicated volunteers and money to do this. The Harlan shelter needs a new roof, more outdoor access for the dogs, better management and more staff. Please get involved

I found a kitten that had apparently been dumped out by someone and took it to the animal shelter and Jennifer fugate treated me awful. Very rude and mean. You would have thought that I was the one that had made the kitten sick and I was only there to ask for help for it.

Great place.. takes care of so many discarded mistreated animals...plus they post spad & neuter clnic & very low cost to the community
