I gave the location 5 stars because it's a short drive from the highway. It's a little scary coming into the town. Dozens of vultures on the water tower and we came in on a Monday when not much is open in Wilson. But the room was lovely. The breakfast included kolaches, which were wonderful! Tuesday morning one of the staff gave us a mini tour and contacted the shop on the other side of the tracks. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay!Noteworthy details: If you are in Wilson check out Midland mercantile. Also the liquor store stocks several Czech beers.

Wilson is a treasure of Americana. It is a town that has pride in its Czech heritage. Across the tracks from the hotel, one can even see the world's largest Czech egg. The people in town were polite and welcoming. I will discuss the restaurant below, which was also outstanding. This hotel is definitely worth a stop on any road trip. The hotel was a museum on its first floor with a cozy, historic feel on the upper floors. The rooms were comfortable, and the breakfast kolaches were delicious. Will definitely stop back by if ever on the road that way again.Food & drinks: Go to the restaurant for dinner. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer, fish and chips, and the cajun chicken pasta as our entrees. Everything was delicious. The pickles were battered well and clearly fresh (not frozen or pre-packaged), coming out piping hot. Their house-made chips (actual American chips) were outstanding. Perfect thickness with the right crisp and seasoning. The fish was flaky but not overdone. The breading was also a good blend. The pasta was great, but the chicken was a bit overdone but hardly noticeable with everything around it. The flavors of the dish were on point. It was creamy, fresh, and had the right spicy kick to it. The prices are also extremely reasonable. I would pay double the bill where I live for the quality of a fresh dining experience. The hotel restaurant should not be ignored with your Wilson experience!

My sister and I recently stayed at the Midland hotel and we absolutely loved it! The architecture of this hotel is so cozy and our room was so charming and comfortable. Everyone we interacted with from check-in to check out was friendly and personable. The restaurant downstairs was inviting and delicious. Gunnar took great care of us! After breakfast, Rob gave us a tour of the barn and a ton of information about the art displayed, the hotel, and local events. We cannot wait to come back to Wilson and stay in the Midland Railroad hotel.

Overall, the hotel was very cute and a fun experience with great service, but we ended up just getting up at 6 am to check out after the numerous loud disruptions. We might have just gotten a room in a spot that you can hear all activity though. Bring your own pillow as theirs are not great!Rooms: Rooms were clean and in good shape, beds and pillows were terribly uncomfortable, unfortunately.Management should consider adding a curtain over the window on the doors to allow the room to be dark enough to fall asleep.Food & drinks: The sample room food and service was great! We also stopped at the bar next door, Natasha was super sweet and fun.Noteworthy details: We could hear all of the kitchen activity below our room until pretty late hours, and then again in the early morning. The train that runs next to the hotel did wake us up twice over the course of the one night we stayed. The rooms also have a glass window above the doors, which let a lot of light into our room. We weren’t able to get a lot of sleep.

Small rooms, but very clean and charming! The food and drinks are affordable and very good. The grounds are whimsical and well-kept. Fun to let your imagination go wild, and think about all the ghosts that might live there! We were in town for the roots and blues festival, and had a fabulous time, thank you so much! The whole town is walkable, with so much to see! We will be back! -Molly & Jim Manternach

This hotel was one of the highlights of my recent Midwest trip! Super creepy and absolutely haunted.... but in the best ways! The decor is all antique, and it felt like stepping back in time. They definitely understate the "feel" of the place - meaning they didn't play up the spookiness or make it kitchy - although there was definitely a presence. Gunnar was a superstar! The restaurant was great and. The breakfast buffet was perfect - pronabably the best coffee on this trip. I absolutely recommend and would love to stay here again if I'm ever in Wilson - the Czech Capital of Kansas.

Quaint historic hotel, so rooms are small, but clean. They have all the necessities. We were there for a wedding at Wilson Lake, so did not use the restaurant. Breakfast was offered in a separate area; nice, with lots of sweet rolls, biscuits & gravy, cereal, meat & cheese. There was a sitting room for gathering, games, interesting pictures, & seating for about 8. Staff were friendly & very accommodating. Wilson is an interesting small town.

I stayed here years ago and recently went back for a trip with my own family! Such a unique historic hotel! The staff is great, the breakfast was delicious and they have a top notch instant coffee/espresso machine. The room was a little small but adequate for what we needed (king bed and futon in one room) We ate at The Barn BBQ spot right next to the hotel and it was good! It’s fun that they had chickens in the backyard! We never heard any chickens from the hotel so we were surprised when we saw their pen out back! They have beautiful flower and herb gardens in the backyard and lots of space for outdoor seating! Love this hotel and we will be back!

I went on a road trip to National Parks in the Northwest and stayed in 4 locations. Wilson KS. at the Midland Railroad Hotel, my last stop on my way home was by far the best. The staff almost literally tripped over each other to be of service to us. The Hotel and room was even better than the pictures made it look. The food was amazing and prices were affordable. This is a great old hotel in near mint condition full of interesting history. The types of amenities I had hoped for in the other 3 hotels but didn't get existed in this place. I actually would recommend it to others and will come back someday. My only negative comment would be that I wish the breakfast included went past 9:00 am because my watch was still on mountain time and I was 30 minutes late, so no breakfast.Rooms: Rooms are clean, unique from each other and in great condition.Safety: Wilson seemed like a small sleepy old told in the heartland of America, I didn't have time to explore much but it looked quaint for sure.Food & drinks: I don't know who was cooking in the basement restaurant but they must be good! One of the best cajun pastas I've ever had. The deserts were great too.

Very nice old hotel original foundation was from 1899. The 3rd floor corner room was small but we enjoyed it, it was quiet and the decor was cool to see.Thr restaurant in basement had amazing great food, we had the salmon and Ribeye Steak. They have a nice bar they even has Buffalo Trace Bourbon. There was breakfast that had Biscuits and Gravy along with fruit, cereal and coffee. We enjoyed our 1 night stay and will go back again just to escape the city life. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

This is a very unique destination hotel. We saw a 1 star review and had some reservations. But trust all the 5 stars. The ones that know, know. When traveling to historical building you are not at a Marriott.Bottom line great unique destination hotel to put on your list when traveling through Kansas. Especially if you are interested in the history of immigrants coming to the US in late 1800s and early 1900s.Shrimp tacos were 9/10. Not 10/10 because dirty rice and beans could have had more moisture and spices.

We ate dinner at this business on a Tuesday night while passing through town. We had meatloaf and fish and chips. Everything tasted great and was reasonably priced. We sat on their dog-friendly patio. The only thing I could complain about is the flies that gathered on our food and bit my ankles - eat inside if possible. Otherwise highly recommend.

Follow the scenic byways of Kansas and you will uncover gems like Wilson Kansas and the historic Midland Hotel. Take a step back to the 1890's and walk the streets back in time. Centered in an area with lots to see and experience the hotel is a great stopping point. Great food and cozy dining with friendly people makes the hotel a great experience in rural Kansas.

The website makes it sounds like an old historical building that’s been “newly renovated”. That is NOT the case. The bedding is not good. The blanket on the bed had white stains on it. They do not offer the high end shampoo and conditioner that is shown on the website. The manager and front desk clerk are very nice. The clerk told me that the hotel is on a broiler system. The rooms are very stuffy and you can’t get cold air or any kind of ventilation unless you open a window. The clerk offered to bring a fan. The vents in our room look very dirty. We have been coughing since we checked. It’s late and we have been driving for hours so here we are! The carpet is old and dingy. Honestly, it’s not worth $150 a night. We stayed in the jacuzzi suite. The tv is maybe a 19”.We love staying in old buildings/hotels that have been renovated but this is far from that. I feel like we’ve been lied to and kind of wasted our money since the website specifically said it was newly renovated. When I asked the manager how long ago was the hotel “Newly renovated” he said between 2003-2005. Again, the website does not say that the renovations were done 19 years ago. I feel like this place can be amazing with some good old TLC! I know it’s expensive but if the bedding was on point and we seen updates being done we might give it another shot.Oh, and if you’re over 6’ tall forget about staying here. The ceilings are super low.

What an awful unethical experience we had!My husband had been hospitalized in Taos and needed to stop Midway at what used to be a nice stay.I called early that morning and legally secured our favorite room with a credit card....we said we'd be in late at close to 11 pm as we were driving from Taos where my husband had an unexpected hospital stay on vacation. We were reassured our room would be ready.Upon arrival no one came to the desk ..I called many times on the phone and still no one came...I let out a few you-who's and finally the young man came out.He said we had been switched to another room! What! How could they do that? He said the girl on day shift did it. Then told us we could have the suite...I said no...we had had the suite one other time and it's an Anne Frank room in a hot, cramped, no view attic room....not a suite at all...but a hold over room.He then said let me show you room 313 then....he led me up there and I quickly realized room 313 is the Suite.... again lied to, how awful...not what you expect from a historic hotel!I was livid at this point and my husband was weary....if it weren't so late and in the middle of nowhere, we would have left!We stayed in the stuffy attic room and in the morning I had a talk with the young girl I was told switched out our room.... again she was dishonest and passed the buck! This hotel used to be run by mature ethical adults, but has been left in charge of irresponsible young people!!!!So beware of the sour suite switch!Stil very upset about it!!!?

Some historic hotels in small towns coast on their history even as the place is falling apart. Not here. Midland Hotel offers great service, amenities, even an elevator. It's clear that the owners have put care not only into preserving the place, but also into offering a great and modern experience for patrons. The hotel has only one room with multiple beds, and it's worth the extra expense if you're traveling with friends.

We absolutely loved our stay in Wilson Kansas. This is a town with a lot of special charm and worthwhile stops. Great antique/vintage shopping. A few great food options, the food at the hotel itself is great. They have some dog friendly rooms and it was a great place to go with out dogs!!This hotel is definitely not your typical hotel style as it is a historical building, but if you like hidden gems and unique places to stay, then it's really worth checking This place outNoteworthy details: Really special good energy. There is a lot of love and effort in this business.

The Wilson Railroad Hotel & Restaurant is a great place to stay. It is one mile south of I70 in a quaint western Kansas town. The hotel dates back to the 1890s in heritage, but is modern in its amenities. One caution, though. If your stay includes a Monday night, either eat dinner before you arrive or plan on grabbing food at the local grocery store (until 8pm) as the hotel restaurant is closed on Mondays.Rooms: The rooms are old fashioned in look and feel but are modern in functionality. They have wifi, TV, all the modern stuff. They are a little short on electrical outlets, but that is about all.Safety: Very safe, never a concern to us.Walkability: The town of Wilson is about 2 blocks away. All around the hotel are interesting statues, a park, and some nice Railroad relics.

Great hospitality! We stopped during winter storm Elliot (just two miles off of I-70 at exit 206) and the staff was great - especially Nate! Food was good, wine bar was excellent! Rooms were clean and quaint. We woke up to the parlor filled with people that had no where else to stay, the hotel just kept taking anyone who didn’t have a warm place for the night (it was -11 degrees). Thanks so much Midland RR Hotel!

Incredible historic hotel opened in 1889! Very comfortable and so many special touches! Continental breakfast featured fresh hot kolaches and was a whole spread! The movie Paper Moon filmed there too. Definitely will return.Walkability: The town of Wilson is small and very friendly! Don't miss great food at the Snake Shack! Has real malts and great salad

We visited Wilson for the Paper Moon 50th Anniversary celebration and had a fantastic time! While maybe busier than usual, staff was very kind, patient, and accommodating. The downstairs parlor, dining room, and individual rooms are beautiful, very clean, and keep their historic character. The chicken fried steak at the hotel's restaurant was very good! And they had a good spread for continental breakfast in the morning with homemade kolaches. A lovely stay, and we'll definitely be back next time we're in the area!

We had a 50th birthday celebration on Saturday, Feb 18 at The Barn. From working with Tina to get this set up, to Chelsie, whom took care of our group that night, everything was perfect. The BBQ food was delicious. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a place to have a celebration. Plus a bonus was that Tina's daughter, Kira, made the birthday cake and delivered it. It was amazingly delicious. Could not have asked for a better evening!!

The food and wine downstairs in the basement was fantastic! Huge let down for the bedding. VERY hard mattress and pillows. I even asked for more thinking it would help but it didn’t.. With the window at the top of my door the lights were shining in all night. I barely slept. The place is very historic which I love! The staff were so friendly and accommodating but they need to change the bedding asap

Great whiskey spread down in the basement bar. Staff are nice and considerate. They know a lot about the local Kansas culture. Melinda the owner is the typical hard working entrepreneur. Attentive and open to ideas. The housekeepers keep the room nice and clean. Thanks Karen! The cooks and bartenders are friendly. I hear it all the time that Kansas has nothing... But it it has a lot... A sense of Community, beautiful sunsets, clear night skys. I'd love to go back and visit.
