We stayed just one night, as a stop on our way west. It was after mid-April and we had a reservation in Cottonwood Utility. The promised bathrooms and showers were not open! There weren't even pit toilets. Really? Claim the campground is open but don't open the basic necessities. Hard to cat hole when there are no bushes to use as screens. Additionally, they closed the entrance/exit for two hours in the morning and didn't inform campers.Restrooms: Don't count on them. I found only one male and one female to serve a very large campground. They allow camping without opening the bathrooms.Dog-friendliness: Dogs allowed on leash only.

I would not recommend staying at this park or any nearby park for that matter due to the game and park rangers are there to issue tickets to generate revenue, not to educate people on the rules. The lake level was higher than normal and I've included pictures below of the swim beach that was flooded up to the parking lot. The sign for the swim beach was under water at lease 4-5 feet and you couldn't even tell where the beach started or ended. We've never been to this lake and ended up pulling our boat to shore in this area on a Monday with no one else around (there were two other boats on the lake) to pick up our small kids and family to go for a ride. The park ranger stopped us and said that it was a restricted area and issued a citation. I'm okay with being issued a citation and paying a fine, but for parking your boat in a restricted area, this is also a misdemeanor that goes on your record. Most park rangers would give a warning and let you go, not here, they want that revenue, not to educate people on the rules. She instructed us to move the boat 30' over on the other side of some trees and we would be fine. This citation is a mandatory appear in court and I didn't want to drive 8 hours a month ago so on the plus side they were able to see me the next day in court. There were six other people in court and 3 of them were there for minor boat infractions and all got the same fine and misdemeanor on their record as I did. Be careful if you go to this lake, there is no room for error. For us and our family, we will not be coming back to this lake or Kansas for vacation again.

Don't llet Google maps take you any other route than Hwy 14 or you'll be on rough gravel/dirt roads for about 15 miles. The park itself is fine - unnecessarily difficult to understand check in procedures. Bathrooms were super clean but there was also almost no one there.

Absolutely love this park! Undisturbed camping. Marina store, boat rentals, water activities, playgrounds restrooms showers and undisturbed campgrounds. All reasons to visit. Plus the scenery at dusk and dawn are impeccable

This is a lovely state park - with some FHU sites, lots of pull throughs. Paved roads.Older big trees and shaded sites we stayed in site 323 full hook up. It was September so we practically had the place to ourselves! Sunset was amazing. Marina was still open and they serve breakfast and lunch type food at dinner too. We rode our bikes all over! As was previously noted the reservoir can get low at the end of the season so we couldn’t swimWould def return!

The camping area is in need of some repairs and updates. A lot of the picnic tables are broken or unsafe to use. Restrooms are dirty and untaken care of

This state park has a lot going for it. The lake is large and the area is very scenic. There are some shortcomings: The RV pads are very rough and not level, our picnic table was rotting away, and there is only one sewer dump station for the entire campground.

Well maintained with established trees everywhere to provide shade. Nice store at the marina with ice, beer and snacks. Don't let Google lead you down 12 miles of gravel! Only use highway 14 to get there regardless of which direction you're coming from! So many pull-through camping sites and we felt totally secluded even though the park was pretty full that weekend. Wish we could have stayed longer!

I have driven past the lake dozens of times. Been to the Marina once for sandwiches and was disappointed. Though lots of friends love to eat there. You can no longer get a park pass despite what the sign says. We drove around the lake and through the campgrounds. It is beautiful! Looks like a fun place to camp. The water level is very LOW.

We visit a lot to use the archery range with our kids. It's usually a nice calm place to hang out by the water and there are some fossil in the limestone if you or your family are interested in that.

The park is extremely quiet, however there is limited things to do inside the park. We stayed for a week at the campground and while it was very peaceful, there was very little activities other than fishing available. If there were bike trails or hiking trails that would definitely elevate the experience. For a quick stop on your travels, this is a great place for that. Would we come back to stay a week again, no we would not.

Feel very fortunate that this lake is so close to our home and overall it is a nice lake to camp at. BUT, would really like to see a little more maintenance done. So many trees need to be trimmed up, more mowing could be done, roads could use some work, many picnic tables need boards replaced. I understand that funding for projects is always an issue, but we pay a lot of money by the time we buy our annual camper permit, 2 vehicle permits and then the camping fees which every spot is listed as prime whether it is a full hookup, water and electrical or just electrical. Just feel like a few of our dollars could go back into Lovewell State Park.

Met up here for a family reunion with people from neighboring states. The reservoir was beautiful and the cabins worked out great for all of us.Unfortunately, we got a ticket for where we parked our boat - it was a Monday, the lake was virtually empty, and we were one of two families parking in what was apparently the wrong 30 yards of shore (no signs were posted). Both parties got tickets, which had to be paid in-person (!?) at the court house, which took hours, cost loads, and resulted in a misdemeanor (!?!) Awfully steep punishment given there was no obvious way to know we had done anything wrong.Otherwise, beautiful. But we were all left with a sour taste.

We have only been here once and stayed in a cabin. The cabin was really nice. The lake was flooded when we went so it was difficult to do much. But this lake is beautiful and I would love to go back when the water is back to normal.

So this is a beautiful park.. With lots of hidden fees.. Tent spaces arent allowed to use the water to drink.. If you get a space with electric and water you have to pay extra to use the electric.. You have to get a truck or car pass which is 5 dollars a day extra.. Lots of extra fees .. Not alot of trails to hike.. Dogs run loose with no leashes.. And the beach they had .. Had fishing hooks on them which got my foot.. So just beware..

This was a great place to visit. Clean and spread out. Many many options for camping. Both RV and tents. Marina has high prices so be sure you bring everything. Ice is available and firewood is free and in a huge self service pile. Great place.

There seems to be a issue/trap for the game and parks [ more than any other park in kansas] to create revenue from people or boaters who just want to boat and have a couple beers not hurting anybody or anything.Never going back due to this
