Tilton's is a somewhat bare-bones small grocery store that fills an important role for a community that, without it, would be a grocery store desert. While some (many?) of the regular items are more expensive than Walmart, the produce is typically a real deal!! Often at the end of its shelf-life, you'll want to freeze or cook it right away. So long as you're willing to do so, you can enjoy a little oasis from inflation. 😊 I'm thankful that my neighbors and I have this store that allows me to buy a bag or two of fruits and veggies for less than $10.

Shopped Tilton’s for years. Better prices on many items. Not everything. Gotta shop frugally. I prefer Tiltons because I support local businesses. Neighborhood grocers aren’t as numerous as they once were.

Thrifty was to shop for meat and veggie lovers, tiltons is the place to be. Fresh steaks are chicken, grrreat on the price. I call them my stackem up store. Or my feed a large family for the cheap.

It's overpriced a little bit it's old school and they do have awesome deals everyday. I got like 15 bananas for $1 the other day. The ladies at the register, not really friendly at all. But whatever. Good old school groceries kind of feel tho.

Update: Always a great place to shop. Tilton's has been a presence in Topeka since 1925. The historic store has survived it all. You will take a mini trip back in time when grocery stores were smaller with just enough of the right stuff. The produce is inexpensive , that is what I go for. They sell primarily Best Choice products. They seem to get great deals and pass them on instead of trying to lure you in with a weekly "sale". If you want to support local businesses, this is a good place to start.

For some odd reason I don't think they take a liking to people of color I spent like 2 hours volunteering helping reorganize a couple of shelves in bought some food from here one time done fruit I got the grapes home forgot to look them over but I was eating molded grapes. I bought some little Debbie doughnuts and the whole bag was molded. I've seen mice traps around the building.

Even though they sell clearance food and several items cost more than at a regular grocer, I gave them 5 stars because the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The deals they DO have are awesome and I can often stock up on specials. Love the fruits and vegetables! I can get cat litter in a pinch, too, so it's a convenient little place.

Great little neighborhood store! They've got just about anything a person has on a grocery list, the store is clean, the staff is super-friendly and thoughtful, went out of their way to pack my groceries in such a way that would be easier for me since I ride a bike. Nobody at any other store has EVER done that. The bike rack is a thoughtful touch too, it's much appreciated 🚴‍♂️🚲

Chilton's is your local Mom and Pop style run grocery store similar to that of the '60s and 70s in a small town like I grew up in. On most of their items they are actually competitive with the big ones like Walmart and all these of course not as much variety but some surprise you and they are the same price as you would pay at Dollar general or Dollar tree or dollar store like shampoo and soap or clothes pins for 99 cents yada yada things like that a friendly Small town atmosphere store it takes me back to my childhood days and that was about 70 years ago haha. I really like doing go there a lot because it is also convenient for me being only about a 10 minute bike ride away

Tiltons sometimes has real good deals on SOME things. I real like the pork they sell some of the food is sold after the best of sold by date just have to watch what you buy some prices are way high but they are small store and dont have buying power that big chain store have and for some people its the only store close to them

Nice, friendly store with a pretty good selection. Decent prices and discounts on big sizes of produce. I got a restaurant size bag of spinach leaves for 99 cents and it was very fresh!

Local small town feeling place. Lots of stuff on the shelves. My favorite is the single pies. They have the best selection this side of Topeka. It's located in a pretty cool building too. The rating is for a small neighborhood grocery store which we don't have enough of these anymore.The location is a perfect backdrop to a movie about 1970.

This is my go-to store for Guy's potato chips. Specifically the barbecue chips which have been my favorite since childhood.The Guy's brand is not easy to find locally but you can get them here thanks Tilton's.

So manynitems OUT DATED and OVER priced. I mean $3.89 for a 1 pound roll of ground beef. At Walmart it's only $3.19 for the same thing. Not a clean store by any means. Very disgusted that while walking in the store with my mother, there was a cock roach running out the door. Right there we should of turned around and went to Walmart at least their prices are reasonable and not out dated. So sorry but will NOT be returning to Tilton's westside store.

I tell everyone that Tiltons is the best place in Topeka for inexpensive fruits and veggies. No excuse for not having them in your house when you can go here and get bananas, strawberries, watermelon slices, apples, lemons, limes for over half of the big box stores!
