I was really happy with my overall experience here. We went in Saturday afternoon for my daughter’s bday gift to get a corn snake. We had checked out Petsmart and Petco and the prices were either too high or they had very limited stock in.We ended up here and choosing a little striped corn snake for an agreeable price. Long story short… later that evening we checked on the little guy in his tank and he had passed away. I was worried taking him back the next day because many live animal sales are no refunds/no exchanges.. these things sometimes happen. I took the deceased guy back and the owner immediately and without hesitation let me choose any replacement snake I wanted, really no questions asked. This is incredibly kind and incredibly good business dealings, I honestly didn’t expect it to go as well as it did lol. We were sad our first little one passed away but we are so happy we were able to get a replacement without jumping through hoops. He even obliged me and came out to my car to check my enclosure I brought to make sure everything was safe and snake friendly.I would 10/10 recommend this business. It was clean, well stocked, animals all looked good and the staff and owner went above and beyond to make sure my daughter got a snake for her birthday. I really appreciate you letting us bring a new one home! (I added a pic of her giant smile when I came back with the replacement guy whom she has affectionately named , MUD.)

Always go here for my fish food bearded dragon food and all other animal needs. Great service, and the owner is kind friendly and very informative about all your animal needs and questions. Got my Oscar and gold fish there and they are thriving. Just went here today picked up hornworm superworms crickets and pigs ears for my dog my bearded dragon is looking awesome and is a healthy big man.

I live right across the street, and since discovering them I have enjoyed every visit! The shopkeepers that I have met are very courteous and I have great conversations every time. They keep a very modest amount of live animals and they take very good care of. them & their environments from what I can see - and the reptiles are freakin' HEALTHY!😆 Nice chonky geckos and well-fed snakes, all good signs! They also have a nice selection of supplies and accessories- oh and a LOT of nice aquariums and terrariums, some appeared lightly used for good prices. I prefer small pet stores, so I am rooting for them.

I love this pet store . You can find many unique and interesting species you wouldn't find at PetSmart or Petco . The owner is very knowledgeable and polite he definitely knows his stuff . His very professional and calm demeanor makes this store a very warm atmosphere .

Prepare to be ripped off.I don’t usually like to leave negative reviews, but today’s experience was remarkably bad. I went in today and was not greeted by the employee (owner) inside who seemed annoyed by my presence there. I payed a little more than I was expecting for 36 super worms to feed to one of my reptiles. The bag of worms looked to have significantly less than three dozen, so when I got home I dumped them all out and counted 21. I payed for three dozen feeders and got less than two dozen. They clearly had a ton more in stock, and he bagged them in front of me so I’m not sure how this could have been a mistake.I’ve heard stories about him being rude towards female customers but was willing to give the benefit of the doubt. I regret this. Do not go here if you are female presenting!!

Topeka definitely doesn't offer very many Chinchilla friendly options for their cage. Just cuz something says made for chinchillas doesn't been its actually safe for them. I found these items at Safari Pets. I wish somewhere in town sold wood ledges for them to play on. Toys as well. Of course they can only have certain types of wood. I could go on and on.

Cool store! You can pay a few dollars for them to feed a few dead fish to a tank of piranhas. Definitely more knowledgeable than your typical franchise store (Petco, Petsmart, etc.).

I drive an hour to get fish here. Never had a sick fish. 100% survival rate. Tanks are always immaculate. Never seen any Quarantined tanks at least in the display room. He is willing to have the more expensive exotic fish.

Owner was very knowledge and highly professional in that he tested my water and said my pH was too high. He sold me a test kit to check for myself. He also said the fish I was interested in if they were healthy would be able to swim away from filter intake. He specializes in fish himself. He has a large supply of fish and plenty of assortment of supplies to get you started. He prides himself in quality of fish.

The gentleman that ran the store was so helpful.People was coming one right after another. He waited on all of them and would come back and help me and my husband with the fish and all the other things we needed. He handled everything with kindness and was so common and very polite. I would recommend his store to friends and other that crosses my path.Thsnk you much. It's hard to find a person like him in other stores I have visited since moving here to Topeka

Buster (owner) is very knowledgeable in helping choose the correct items for your pets. I go for saltwater aquarium supplies and have learned a lot from him. He won't sell you something you don't need! Good selection of freshwater animals, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects. Also carries pet food! Can't say enough about the place and Buster!

So this "Simmons Clan" posting the bad reviews yesterday must be a Lil butt hurt over being asked to leave cause you were drunk in the store WITH your kids. Get over it, you were outta line when the employee asked you to leave... this store has knowledgeable and fun employees... will always go there!

I had called the store to request information about their small animal selections and the employee who had answered my call (who sounded to me like the owner) was very short with me and rude. He was not helpful with answering my questions and was very impatient when I was trying to understand him over the phone. I would not recommend service with this pet and merchandise supplier.

Love shopping small when I come to Topeka. Can't believe anyone would say the owner is rude because I think the opposite. He is very friendly to us! We live an hour away and come to this pet shop whenever we can.

I've been coming here off and on for years (purely for fish-related things), and here's what I've noticed:The fish and other aquatics are taken care of. I've never seen dead this or that floating around in the tanks. There is real, actual gravel in the tanks - not just pictures (lookin' right at you, PetSmart). The store is always clean. The store is always well-stocked, with a good variety of items.Years ago, my wife decided to bring home male and female guppies. Needless to say, in a short time, I had a few dozen baby guppies. Fish like this can't be "rehomed," and I'm not the type to flush 'em. This guy took all those fish off my hands, no problem.If you're looking for fish, and you actually care about doing right by them, then (at least in Topeka) this is the place to go, hands down. The other places aren't even worth the visit.

I never give a five-star to anyone for is the highest I guess I would say four and three quarters for Safari pet because we have always got the best service ever there and they are kind and helpful and go out of their way to answer all questions you have and if they don't know the answer they will find out the answer even if they have to call you back and let you know later. They are awesome the owner is awesome! Recommend this place for anyone that has exotic animals especially reptile.

Excellent service. Clean and well supplied. All aspects of this shop from sevice to supplies are goood and everything is well maintained. Also good prices. Hard to find stores like this anymore. Its not over the top and flashy. It serves a proper purpose in this day and age. Highly recommend it. I drive 50 miles just to go there.

The service at this pet store was absolutely wonderful. The owner and his son jack know exactly what they are talking about and help you find what you need every time. I was blown away by the help I received with the fish by the son Jack, Buster did an amazing job of raising this young man. I will never take my money elsewhere. I love safari pets!

Doesn't have a lot of animals, but does have tropical fish, sharks and tarantulas and corn snakes, and a bearded dragon. Also hamsters a bunny and a farret and some birdies. Safari pets is cheaper than most pet stores but your not aloud to pick up the little fur babies or touch them, only look at them.

I showed up tonight and found most exotics that I have been wanting but would have had to order online. The prices on some things were a bit high but the selection was awesome and you can see what you are buying. I was promptly helped and I very much enjoyed my experience. I bought three dwarf Mexican crayfish this time and I am very happy with them. I will be back soon and probably will go whenever I’m in Topeka now. Don’t hesitate go!

First time going to this store and will be the last. We will never go back after the rude service from the gentleman working there. It seems he is not very happy. No salt water fish as per the sign out front. Girls asked to feed the piranhas that are at the store. I paid and said please and thank you. He never said one word. He came over and dropped the small fish in the tank and left. If I didn't give the girls a heads up that he was coming they would have missed the whole thing. My daughter pointed out the sign did not say, "Watch the piranhas being feed". Girls mentioned that he was not happy or a polite man.

Save yourself the frustration and just go elsewhere. The older gentleman/owner was incredibly rude and short with me when I was asking questions. He seemed annoyed to have customers as he was on his cellphone while I was asking questions. I like to shop local as you typically get a better experience and customer service. Not the case here at all.

Locally owned, good selection for a small store, fair prices. I try to go to PetWorld in Lawrence but Safari Pets is still better than PetSmart/PetCo for aquatics.The owner, Buster, can be quite rude or condescending to some customers, see other reviews. I have had good experiences 90% of the time though.I believe the staff is sometimes not up to date on the proper vetinarian/biologist information provided. Once again, they are right 90% of the time but way wrong the other 10%. The chinchilas & hamsters need more enrichment and better equipment while staying there. Sometimes the animals don't look great here...

The owner was extremely rude. His sign states they have saltwater fish so sorry for assuming you had what you were advertising. Also he followed us around the store making it super uncomfortable to even browse the freshwater fish or look at the 4 other choices of animals. Cant touch anything unless in his words you can clean it. Never been in this store was expecting something but never this. I wouldn't suggest anyone go here unless you want to be just dissapointed .

Hometown business with great personal service. They are very knowledgeable with their fish. Will tell you exactly what you need to know. If they are low on fish the day you go, just ask them when their next shipment is and make another trip. It's worth the extra trip I promise.
