Typical smal ttown cafe. Fair prices. Normal portions. Not huge, but enough.Had an omelet, hash browns, and a biscuit. Don't skip the biscuits. Really warm, soft, and tasty.Good coffee.

Updated review : oh how things have changed.My wife and i recently moved to the area and were looking forward to coming to this uber-cute cafe in this uber-cute town more often than once a decade.That probably won't happen after this visit.They were out of what we initially ordered, the egg in my wife's salad was overcooked (grey/green yolk that smelled a bit like sulphur) the table across from us went un-bussed for the entirety of our stay while that table's server spent the majority of her time sitting with friends in the back. Our server was busy (probably picking up slack from the other server) and it was like pulling teeth to get a single coffee refill (again, our server, the redheaded one, appeared to be busy working).Any one of these things is no big deal, but the combination of them left to a less than desirable dining experience that doesn't make me want to come back.Review (5 stars) from 2 years ago:Admittedly, it's been a decade since I've been here, but last time I was here they still had coffee for a dime, which was super cool.The coffee is a buck now, which is still really inexpensive, and you can get refills too! It's also much better now, so I'm not really complaining.The food is solid, and the service is good. The whole place is comfortable and homey. I was quickly spotted as an outsider, but made to feel welcome just as fast. Sterling Cafe is what a small town diner should always be.

Service is great and food good and hot. We walk in and table is usely set all but our food order for we do change it up.Two👍👍 up lady's and yes that means the cook too. Great job on the employees Peggy and welcome home.

Sterling Cafe IS the definition of small town diner. Lots of old people sitting around drinking coffee. Friendly, but not overly friendly, wait staff. TV on the weather channel. Good midwestern style food. The food is nothing special. The decor isn't spectacular. The staff doesn't put on a show for you. But if you're looking for a simple small town diner experience, this place is pretty special.

Been living in Sterling since July. And yesterday was the first day I have gone there. And I must say, the place has a warm homey kind of feel. The people were nice and the waitress was really kind. The food came out hot, the salad I had was yummy, and the chicken strips with fries (for child) was a great portion for even adults lol. My fiance had the chicken strip dinner which included small salad, mash potatoes with gravy, and corn. I stole a couple bites from my kiddo lol. And it was very good. And the pies were all homemade except just one. They were honest when we had questions and it was a great experience. There was even someone visiting and it was their first time there as well, and the waitress was just sweet as can be and love how she made him feel welcomed. Honestly I thought he had been there before from how she was talking to him. (lol wasnt being entirely nosy. He was right behind us and as it was late in the evening there wasnt much people). This is a long review and I apologize but if youre ever in town or havent been to this place I highly recommend it. You wont regret it. Very respectable people.

Nice small town atmosphere. Clean and pleasant with friendly waitstaff. Good food and excellent pies. Does not accept electronic payments of any kind, ie charge or debit cards. Accepts checks or cash only. Sterling Cafe now accepts credit cards. Date of this post is 6-12-11.

Best home made chicken fry ever. I usually won't. Eat one because I don't like drop in the fryer pre made one this was great. While working there went twice just to have another! Highly recommend . The other cafe iN town was disgusting. Can't find if to review but I will never return to it. Worst food in our life. Will always return to the sterling cafe when in town.

Stick to the chicken.... Was looking for a home town dinner ordered chicken fried steak, potatoes, and roll. My chicken fried stake had no breading the gravy was flavorless, potatoes instant and roll stale. Im sorry was so disappointed.
