I bought 2 rats. An employee lifted the first one by his tail, this can injure the rats especially if they were larger.Don't pick up animals by their tails.Thankfully they picked up the next one properly when I asked them to not grab their tails.They put the rats in a box, and then proceeded to stab holes in the box. You know how to potentially injure an animal? Put them in a box and THEN stab holes in it with them in there.Stab the holes BEFORE you put a living animal in the box!I bought these 2 knowing they'd likely have URI because they are kept in a tank. Rats are high risk for upper respiratory infection, tanks trap ammonia. I needed companions for my 2 at home ASAP.I introduced them to my rats without making sure they werent sick first, so it is my own fault if my healthy boys get their sickness. Especially knowing they'd likely have an upper respiratory infection from living in a tank.Cleaning the tank too often to accommate for the lack of air flow will only stress them out and cause or worsen sickness.I was told that they know about the URI risk, and they treat them with Vicks Vaporub. They treat a sick animal with a sensitive respiratory system using a very strong smelling treatment used for humans with colds, instead of antibiotics.I was told they couldn't possibly put them in a well ventilated cage because people would touch them, yet they don't put all of their birds in tanks. Put a sign on the cage, or put them in a no customers zone and show them by request.I noticed URI in one, took him to the vet right before I told the pet store. I've come home now and the other rat is sneezing too. I probably just didnt notice until i separated them. The vet said if they survive, they will still have lung damage.If you buy rats from Claws n Paws, they will very likely be sick already.I'm focused only on the rats because I know how to care for them, but their poor birds and ferret look miserable.This last part is just nit picky, but they only list prices for nakeds and dumbos, yet my new boys are standard rats. They are the same price as dumbos.The pics are my 2 sick boys, the pet stores rat tank from awhile ago, and the antibiotic prescription.

Dan and the staff here are fantastic. Dan has helped me from start to newly established in my first saltwater tank. He has helped every step of the way and doesn't get frustrated at the endless questions I have had along the way. Everything I have bought from here has been healthy and perfect. Can't recommend this place enough.

I was highly disappointed in their saltwater selection. The tanks were over ran with algae. One tank the hair algae was so bad you couldn't even see the rocks. Saddest part about it, they had a gem tang and a gold nugget maroon in the tank. This use go be a nice store and one of the only places I would buy my saltwater livestock. Sad to see it in this condition

This is by far the best pet store I've ever been to. When you walk In you are greeted by a friendly knowledgeable small group of people. The first thing I noticed was the smell, or lack thereof. It certainly did not smell like a pet store, it smelled fresh and clean. The pets are the best cared for I've ever seen, tanks are clean and critters are healthy.The resident cat is awesome, biggest cat I've ever seen.I was looking forward to sharing this place because I was so impressed with it. I'll never go to another dirty poorly cared for pet store again, this place is worth a drive.

This place is phenomenal!! Drove almost 2 hours & would/will do it again. They have everything for pets. We went for fish & the selection is very impressive. I was gobsmacked! The employees & owner are SO nice & will answer your questions with great patience. You won't be disappointed!!Note: They've officially replaced my favorite go to fish store!

Yesterday was our first experience at this wonderful pet shop. Honestly, I have never been made to feel more welcome and invited into a place before. The staff was knowledgeable and extremely helpful. It was clear they were most interested in meeting the customer's needs while at the same time educating about the animal's specific requirements to ensure a good fit. No hard sell and no pressure to buy. My children loved it too! We can't wait to go back. The fish and clean-up crew we purchased were in excellent health and had no issues adjusting to their new home. If I could give 100 stars, I would!

I've visited fish shops in several countries (Philippines, Korea, Japan, China, Mexico, Canada) & states through the years bc I find fish keeping is the healthiest solution for anxiety. I decided to make the trip to Kansas for the first time from Bentonville, AR. It was definitely worth the 90 minute drive.. Dan and his staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and not pushy. The prices are the best I've seen in the 4 state area. No dead fish, clean tanks, well lit tanks and ALL fish were priced clearly on each tank. The dry goods selection was overwhelmingly good. Their frozen foods were A+, and they even had repashy which is tough to find. There is ample parking, including handicap and the place is easy to find from the interstate. AAA experience by any metrice. The corys are little but very cheap compared to other shops. Love the panda and skunk cory I got!

The staff was very nice and helpful but the owner was very rude. The store was kept very nice and everybody was great except the owner. Another employee was in the back getting my feeders so I was looking around. He must’ve thought I was just looking at the animals and not buying anything so he was rude.

Took my granddaughter here because she wanted to look at the animals and fish. She immediately spotted the fluffy cat that roams the store and got to pet it for awhile. They have a variety of animals and pet care products for sale such as: birds, fish, lizards, snakes, ferrets, hamsters, chameleons, Guinea pigs and more. Prices are what you would expect at a pet store. Friendly staff.

Claws and Paws is my favorite place for fish. Great selection, healthy tanks and most importantly a welcoming, very informative staff. Dan is incredible. Very knowledgeable and can answer any question with an in depth explanation. This store is 1.5 hrs from home and completely worth the drive.

This is the closest local pet store to where I live, and I love visiting! The staff here are super friendly, knowledgeable, patient and helpful. Including the owner, whose the nicest guy, and is always there to answer questions and assist as well, and I think that speaks volumes! The store smells great, is clean, well organized and stocked with supplies for pretty much any critter you keep as a pet. They gave myself and my partner the courage and knowledge to finally start a salt water tank and it has been an amazing journey, with this shop offering their guidance! Highly recommend visiting!
