Tallgrass and the owners are wonderful in helping a friend with getting an African Grey all the way to SC to a friend who had recently lost her beloved bird. Kail flew here and spent time with the new owner making sure the grey was being placed in a great home. I highly recommend them.

Lovely sanctuary for parrots. The BEST charity for parrots, actually the ONLY charity specifically focused on parrots sends supplies to this sanctuary. That would be The Parrot Posse and pictures of the birds enjoying their goodies are shared by this facility on a regular basis. No, Cody, animal sanctuaries are not like petting zoos, they don’t charge fees People don’t get to come and go as they please either, especially when there is high a risk of viral infections being spread around.

Tallgrass Parrot Sanctuary is one of the finest parrot welfare organizations in the US. It’s founder, Kail Marie, has dedicated herself to providing a permanent home for the parrots, and other animals she takes in, many who are truly rescued from horrendous conditions. All the sanctuary animals receive excellent care, high quality, nutritious diets, enriched lives, and an abundance of loving attention. As someone who has owned parrots, and cherishes them for the wonderful creatures they are, I know that any parrot that is lucky enough to call Tallgrass home is very fortunate indeed.

This sanctuary is a blessing to so many birds. Whether they were owner surrender, abuse/neglect, or dumped, they have an amazing forever home with Kail and Michelle. I’ve seen first hand the amazing work these ladies have done for not only birds but for many animals. They have spend a lot of money on aviaries for the big parrots as well as barns for other unwanted animals.I’ve also seen the amazing meals the birds get, heck, heck, they eat a better balanced meal than me.I would love to be a bird in their care. And both ladies have hearts of gold. They have always been more than willing to offer suggestions or any assistance when I need it!

This is a sanctuary that does a wonderful job of taking in birds that have outlived their owners, or were surrendered to the sanctuary. It is not something that is easy for anyone to take over. It is a very dedicated group of women who take these animals lives seriously. i commend them for their generous time, help and knowledge. People who give it a low rating obviously do not know what or who they are talking about.

Tallgrass owners are caring and they selflessly care for not only birds, but ANY animal that is in need. They are knowledgeable and willing to educate on the different needs of the animals in their care. Please consider a donation to help them with their mission!

This review is submitted in support of Tallgrass Parrot Sanctuary. It is one of the best companion bird sanctuaries in the Midwest states and is located in Lecompton KS, midway between Topeka and Kansas City. This is a dedicated sanctuary as opposed to an adoptive and rehoming organization and it’s owners have dedicated their lives to giving lifetime care to abandoned and surrendered birds in an exemplary manner. It is not open to the public, nor is it a place to “view” birds. Many people don’t know, or haven’t thought of the fact that some birds have very long lives and in many cases outlive their owners. Also, many people acquire birds without realizing how difficult and demanding they can be to care for. Unfortunately there is a lot of abuse due to negligence and frustration. I have had occasion to visit the Sanctuary as I am a colleague in the bird world and can say, first hand, that their flock couldn’t be better loved or cared for. Please ignore any other reviews on this page that are misinformed and/or defamatory. I don’t know why they would go out of their way to defame his organization. It’s one of the Best!

This Sanctuary is a Godsend to any animal/Fowl/reptile in need. Noted recent addition of a needy turtle. I have followed them for many years and personally interacted with them concerning parrots. Kind, big hearted, experienced women doing all they can to help those in their care. Day and night they do the work! Thank you for caring and sharing your journey on Facebook so we all can learn.

A long-term sanctuary, providing lifelong care for unwanted and orphaned animals. I have visited and seen first hand the housing for macaws and Cockatoos when it was built. There is lots of room to fly and enrichment is big here. Owners also educate people to not participate in the cruel exotic pet trade. I first learned of Tallgrass when I inherited a beloved family pet, an African Ringnecked parKeet. Tallgrass taught me to provide quality care for Max for 12 years. When my circumstances changed And I took a job that required travel, they graciously adopted him and cared for him until he died peacefully of old age. So grateful!!

I've known the people of Tallgrass sanctuary for years and they take remarkable care of their animals. They provide gold standard home for those whose humans can no longer care for them, and even those who were abandoned, or need special care.

The local bird club here sent a homeless macaw to Tallgrass. Since sending him, this bird has thrived. Once unloved and unwanted, he now has a wonderful place to live and lots of hugs and kisses. We were so elated when Tallgrass agreed to take this bird as no one else wanted him. We love Tallgrass.

This is the place that is in my living will detailing where my 2 African Grey parrots will go to live after I’m gone - Tallgrass has the love, compassion and generosity to offer a home to many types of unwanted birds and animals and I love them for it! Nobody cares like they do!

Fake place advertising for other places there are no parrots at their farm. And they do tours at all either. Also they take donation but use them for stuff that is for their own personal gain

While I haven't been in person, I have NEVER heard anything negative about this facility (except for 1 reviewer who apparently has never been there and seems to know nothing about how rescues/sanctuaries work).
