I loved it you could Feed fish and turtles. It was amazing and you could pick up the hamsters and pet the bunnies and see the birds. I give the place a 5/5 the way it said people spend about 20 minutes in here we spent 2 hours

I'm not a fish expert at all but this place seems leaps and bounds better than most if not all other places in the area. The prices are GREAT, even better than big box stores, which is a massive plus. A wide variety of freshwater fish, plants, and supplies, at very competitive prices. All employees have been nothing but great every time I've been. Very helpful, and tanks seem very clean. The only drawback is that there is a tank of very swollen female bettas with nipped fins, which may be a hospital sorority tank or something. Definitely worth a visit!

Awesome! Great selection of fresh water fish, better than any store near kansas city. Fantastic staff that are knowledgeable and friendly. Great reptile selection as well. They have everything you need.

My son had fun feeding the turtles, and the fish. He got to hold a hamster and had a lot of fun! We went there to buy crickets and stayed much longer. The associate helping us was so nice and patient. I wish I had caught her name.

This pet store is absolutely above and beyond any other. It is a staple within the Lawrence community. Amazing humans run this place; incredibly well taken care of animals, as well as truly knowledgeable and remarkable staff.My children and I LOVE going to this place just to walk around and check everything out.......Pet World came to my classroom today!!!They put on an amazing display. I was impressed with how the two presenters interacted with all the kids. The information they provided, as well as the overall enjoyment they had for what they were doing.My favorite was the giant gecko, I can't remember the whole name, but it was so cool. You would think that it's skin would feel rough, but it was so soft. It was like touching kinetic sand.We had a floppy eared bunny rabbit, a guinea pig, a tiny bearded dragon. A pretty big ball python, a gorgeous tortoise, a huge hamster, and the macaw Phoenix who is a sassy devil.It was truly a fantastic way to wrap up our "pets" unit.Our class had a fantastic time. Highly recommend any teacher reaching out to Pet World to have an introduction to different animals.

I hope this doesn't get buried amongst all the other reviews of this place. In their bio, Pet world states that, "We pledge solidarity with all kind, respectful, nature and animal loving people, standing together with people of all color, regardless of background, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical ability, zip code or lack thereof". A close friend applied to Pet World and was strung along for a full month and lied to by the employees about whether or not he was going to be hired. Instead, after stringing him along, they said he, "Lacked the ability to understand social cues" and let him go with no warning. It's a cruel, careless thing to do to another person. Lawrence has a host of cheaper, friendlier alternatives to shop for pets. Petsmart and Petco are nearby and I have never had a bad experience there. Please consider supporting businesses who actually honor their promises to be accepting of others.

Great store full with a large variety of pets. Honestly seems more focused on exotics like reptiles and spiders than dogs and cats.Also bring the kids and pay a few dollars to feed the giant tortoises.

This is the best pet store ever! I used to go to this place when I was a kid and they are still amazing in every way amazing can be. They don't have saltwater fish now, but the selection of freshwater fish is amazing. Also their selection of reptiles and rabbits is very extensive, which I think is much more than you will find anywhere else. Great staff! Very friendly and knowledgeable!

I love what this local pet store stands for and the way they run their business. These people really do care about these animals at the shop and they are all very well cared for. Past that, Pet World carries the cat litter that my cats like (sustainably yours, large grain) and it's pretty much always in stock and available. Their cat treat/toy/accessories stock is always great too!

We hosted my daughters 7th birthday here last weekend and it was everything we hoped for and more. An amazing experience with the staff and animals. Donna was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, she basically ran the party for me. She helped me decorate, cut cake, packed presents, cleaned up, and presented all the animals my daughter wanted. It was so fun and memorable for everyone! Thank you Donna and Pet World Experience!

I love this place! It can be difficult to find good fish, and it can be difficult to find a variety of fish, and again even harder to find knowledgeable proprietors. Pet World has them all in spades and more. Admittedly I don’t go too far past the fish sections but the store is large and has lots of pet supplies. As far as my experience I will always be willing to drive the hour and a half to shop here. I’m kicking myself for not getting the employee’s name but everyone of them was friendly and helpful, and all of my questions were answered thoroughly. I couldn’t recommend Pet World more!

My first time ever in Petworld and they have some of the coolest things for your fur babies, all pets as a matter of fact! Love how organized and easy it was to find things! The customer service was stellar and was even able to sign up for discounts! Will be back!

I've been to almost all of the freshwater stores in Kc and STL and this one is head and shoulders about pretty much all of them. First, the store is full, filled with real plants, and almost spotless. All fish seemed to be in good health and they had the biggest selection I've ever seen, despite it being Feburary with lots of snow storms this winter. They also have 3 different feeding tanks, a large turtle pit, and a great variety of reptiles in well planted tanks. A great place to take kids and kill a half hour. I talk to Kyle and he happy answered all of my questions while I nerded out. All of the staff was very nice and helpful and I was asked a number of times if I needed anything. GREAT STORE!

I've recently gotten in to aquarium keeping. I drive over from Topeka and every time I come in here I get fantastic assistance from knowledgeable aquatic staff. Not only do they have an amazing selection of hard-to-find species, all of the tanks are clean and well-kept.In particular I'm mostly in to nano fish and shrimp, and the tanks they keep them in are fantastic. Small tanks but with lots of plants, crystal clean water, and good circulation. Very good survival rate when taking fish home, and they always offer to add oxygen to the bags since I have to drive back to Topeka. 1000x better than chain-store shopping.

It's a great place for pets. It seems like a mini zoo. You can mostly get birds and fish here, cats and dogs are not available much. To get something exotic and out of the box, you may find snakes and tortoises very interesting from their collection.

We are in Lawrence since last couple of years but it was only yesterday that we came to know about Pet world. This place is simply amazing. So many reptiles birds fishes under the same roof. The staffs are super friendly. The tortoise dug out is so amazing. We took our dog too and she had an amazing time also.

Had my daughter’s 6th birthday here and what a wonderful experience! Cameron was super helpful and his animal presentation was so fun and informative! He went above and beyond to make the party amazing! The animals here are very well taken care of and loved as well. Can’t rate this business or Cameron highly enough!

This place is awful. They basically let customers abuse and mishandle anything that doesn't have glass separating us from the animals. Also, THESE ARE ANIMALS NOT YOUR CHILDRENS PLAYTHINGS THAT Y'ALL CAN ALLOW TO ABUSE. If there's anything in the world that needs a leash it's y'alls disgusting children.

Hands down one of if not the best pet store I’ve been to. They stay stocked on all pets and supplies very well as well as have a huge selection. I bought some fish and great driftwood pieces for an aquarium. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff! As you can see in the picture, you can also feed the fish.

We are glad we found this local pet store. Quick drive out to Lawrence from Overland Park. We were looking for Polar Blue Parrot cichlids and guess where we found them! They have plenty of aquarium decor options. Love that they’re locally owned! We saw signs that they do parents night out and camps for kids.

Due to the coronavirus I can say that I have not gotten the privilege to experience this store in it's full glory, but I can say that even with the virus this store's operation during the virus is still very impressive with a BIG wow factor! I can only imagine a pet store that actually hosts birthday parties how it would operate without the inconvenience factor of a world wide pandemic. They are practicing coronavirus care measures while providing a AMAZING service! Absolutely worth the drive from KC!They do carry all sorts of pet supplies and pets, but I will say that their aquatics is probably the main focal point of the store. Anything and everything you could need for your Vivariums (aquariums, ripariums, paludariums, and terrariums).When I mean anything I mean anything! Their fish stocks are mainly freshwater fish, but every type you can generally find only online as apposed to most other stores unless it's specifically an aquatic store and even then it's generally mostly salt water. They have good variety. They also have equipment for every aquarium type imaginable, and their staff is SUPER knowledgeable, and very friendly. Honestly I feel they are there more to educate than to actually make the sales. Don't let age fool you either. Some of the employee's may seem young, but they are packed full of knowledge fuelled by passion! I have verified some of the advice given, and it truly is on par with the pros so listen and don't let things like age fool you because this staff knows their trade.This place even carries bio-wheels. That's impressive to me because you never replace those unless it gets broken, and because of that they are hard to find, but this place has them. I make mention on that just so you can get an idea on how well they are stocked on their equipment, even rare items. They are also very big on natural approaches so they don't carry a lot of un-natural products which I love.If you happen to go on a Sunday there is a girl there named Mariah with purple hair. All of their staff stands out, but this girl really made this place "my aquarium needs" home! She was bright, sweet, very professional, and knew the answers to ALL my questions plus answer questions I didn't even think of. She was eager to help me, and gave me all the time in the world without ever once making me feel like I was a bother. This girl is an asset to this company and if you get the privilege to work with her please take advantage of, and enjoy all she has to offer because she really is a great employee and joy to work with. I have to also make mention on Miss Maddy! Miss Maddy I worked with on a different occasion, and gave me so much information, and hardly ever touched any of the information Miss Mariah had already given me! Like I have said, this staff is very knowledgeable!I hope I was able to capture all the aspects of this pet store. It is also very beautiful! Since my words could not truly capture the Pet World experience I genuinely suggest you just go there and walk through the place. Don't even buy anything, just soak in the experience. That alone is worth the visit!!!My fish tank after working with these awesome people! I also have to mention after reading some of the negative reviews that ALL my stock is thriving and I have not lost a single fish or snail and (I have purchased 20) I can't help but wonder how many people are screwing up their water parameters and blaming it on the store. SO MANY factors in doing an aquarium. You can throw a tank off by not doing your research. The right substrate, plants, and water testing kits as well as filtration and oxygen are important!

Walked into the environment of warm, fuzzy, and happy animals. The habitats for each animal group were clean and well maintained. The animals were happy and relaxed in the habitats. Great staff that was quick to answer questions and help with purchases. Highly recommended!!

We had our daughter's 3rd birthday party here and it was amazing! The presenter was very knowledgeable and kind with the kids. If you need a place to host a party with animals, I highly recommended Pet World. You won't be disappointed!
