As a native of the area, I'd heard the motel was under new ownership, so for my last trip to HC I decided to give the place a try. I called and talked to the owner - seemed like a nice enough guy. I let him know I'd be coming in late from KC and he assured me that wasn't a problem.After pulling in around 8:30, I made a bee-line for the motel. It had been a long day / drive and I was ready to hit the hay, It appeared no one was manning the counter, but at least the owner had put a note out saying he was at a high school play and indicated he'd be back at 9:00. HC's a small town so I get it - the note actually brought a smile to my tired face. After 9:00 came and went, I gave it another 30 minutes and tried to call the hotel a few times with no answer. Enough was enough.As I was exiting the lobby,, a young man walking in asked if I was the owner which made me laugh..... I wish! Apparently he and his crew had been waiting for someone to make an appearance for over two hours. Friends of ours had reported similar treatment when they were in town a few weeks ago, but they at least tracked him down eventually and got a room. Ridiculous.I wish I could post a nice review telling everyone how nice it is to have lodging options in a small town like HC, but if the owner can't be bothered to take basic care of his guests, then I doubt he'll stay in business long. After last night, he'll certainly never have my patronage. Stay at your own risk.

Help support a small business on your drives through Kansas. Stayed here for work and the rooms were a little dated with wood paneling and the floral comforters, but the staff were excellent. The wifi was good. The room was Clean!! And has a nice, big flat screen to boot. Would stay here again for the great price.

Pleasant place to stay. Very clean. My room had a kitchenette; fully furnished with dishes, cookware and silverware. Lighting was good. The owner is pleasant and helpful. The office offers free coffee, ice and sodas and bottled water for $.50.

Clean, comfortable room, $50 a night, nice, hot shower in the morning... What more could you ask for? Amenities are spotty. If you need things like a coffee maker or iron, I would ask at check-in.

We stay here when we come out for Free Tomorrow M/C Annual, The folks in office are extremely kind, and caring. This motel is for connivence, not a high end hotel many are used to. The rooms are clean, and beds are decent, worth the stay for the price and location, as any other motel is a cruise away. Respectful Motel and all who work here. We will see you again fall of 2022.

Stayed here on a recent hunting trip and everything was fine. One thing we lacked was a coffee maker in the room and the office did not generally have coffee on, so we walked to a nearby convenience store. This place is made for hunters and people looking for an inexpensive, no frills place. I would stay here again when in Hill City.

If I could give a minus rating I would. A person can try their best to overlook it being so out dated. I'm talking about dated from the 50's. It had the worst damp musty smell that i have ever been exposed to. Besides the fact that we never let any bare skin touch anything, except sleeping between the sheets. We even wore shoes in the shower. But come on now...the BATHROOM. No excuse for the condition of the shower ceiling and walls. They haven't been washed since the 50's. Without any ventilation, of course the walls will sweat but the walls sweating was the cleaner areas.

Clean & comfortable. The guy at the desk was friendly & helpful. I didn't notice any road noise from the US highway or the neighbors. The room was a lot bigger than it looked from the outside. The air conditioner worked well - a little on the noisy side but it was "white noise." 2 tiny bars of soap & no shampoo. The finish on the tub was coming off in places, but the tub was in good shape & it probably just means they actually scrub the tub with good cleaning chemicals. With tax it was $54 for the night.This is not a place that gets a "coherent" remodel every 15 years. Everything in the bathroom is 1960s. The phone & drapes are 1970s. The 3 chairs & the lamps are 1980s. The beds & bedding are 1990s. The carpet is 2000s. The flat-screen TV & combo heating & cooling unit are 2010s. Things apparently get replaced only when they're no longer serviceable.In a larger community or just off the interstate I'd have been wary of staying here...places that look like this from the outside at this price point can often be magnets for drug activity, hookups, etc. This place is so far off the beaten path, it really simply is a place to stay for outdoorsmen, workers, & those who are well off the beaten path for some reason.The other place to stay in town may or may not be excellent but it look abandoned & like it may collapse if a heavy semi drove by it.I recommend this motel to anyone in the area who needs an inexpensive place to sleep for the night.

The guy that checked us in had absoultely No personality. During the HOT afternoon there was a stray dog walking around visibly tired and thirsty so I gave the dog some water. This man decided it was appropriate to yell at me...Im sorry but if there is a thirsty animal in need I will give it water.The room itself was extrmley outdated, its clear the owners dont care/take pride in their property. The beds were hard as a rock and the pillows a joke. Not really sure how this place has 5 stars? Sad, its a cute town and the motel has potential....its clear they dont care about customer service or the appearence/quality of the place.

The room was decent sized and clean, complete with mini fridge and microwave. The rate was extremely affordable for a family. Not bad for a small town. The desk assistant was very friendly as well.

Nice, old fashioned roadside motel that has been kept up nicely with fairly large rooms. Clean and comfortable with reasonable rates. Electronic key cards and flat screen tv. Off the beaten path.
