I had to take my cat Hunter in for tests on March 9, 2023, to find out why he's been steadily losing weight. I'd never been to this veterinary clinic before. Both Sarah and Dr Ryan were very kind, helpful, sympathetic, caring and informative. The tests showed that Hunter's thyroid was hyper, so he was burning more calories than he was eating. I got medication to administer for two weeks, then have his thyroid checked again. I was very pleased with how gentle Hunter was treated and am looking forward to his checkup.

I recently inherited my dog. She came with some issues. The clinic is very responsive and is willing to work with you. Very polite. You can tell everyone there loves animals. They also provide boarding at very reasonable prices. I'm looking into trying that out.

Friendly, but often have difficulty trimming my dogs nails without sedation. Here they insist that we sedate both our dogs. No other vet has had to in the past. They are 8 and 10.

Team Dr. Jen Mathis and Ann Boal created an outstanding overall experience from the first phone call to the post op followup. Dr Mathis took the time to review my dog Stevie’s previous records and then met with me for the most thorough consultation I have ever experienced. She went over all the details, the possible outcomes, provided in depth information, videos, pictures-diagrams and answered all my questions. The consult was not rushed and I felt at ease knowing everything up front, pre-procedure, actual timelines, fees & followup. I was equipped with all the information and expectations and she taught me a tremendous amount regarding dental care which is invaluable and an ease to the stress and anxiety. Ann was available when I needed her and was so responsive, she provides an outrageous support that I truly appreciate. I recommend the Family Pet Veterinary Center and Dr. Jen Mathis and her dental team to anyone looking for incredible care. Thank you so much for everything, you are the absolute best hands down!

My fiancé and I take our two cats and puppy to Family Pet in West DSM. We feel very fortunate to have such a great clinic so close to home. Everyone from the doctors, techs, and receptionists we have interacted with have been friendly and caring. It's also great to be greeted by the clinic cats! We really love how they create a fear free environment. Our cats can be somewhat hesitant of different places but are very comfortable here. We recently also had our puppy spayed and are very happy with how the whole procedure went. We highly recommend Family Pet Veterinary Center!

My dog, Archie, has extreme anxiety - especially when it comes to going to the vet. The techs and doctors at Family Pet have been so understanding and wonderful. They never force him to do anything, but use fear free methods involving treats and praise. Archie now loves coming to see his friends at Family Pet!

They were good with us, it was a wierd time during covid, where I didn't get to meet the vet until the 3rd visit. They are sales oriented wanting to sell packages for animal care. I wish I would have thought that through more. I have moved and probably wouldn't choose this vet again. Our energies just didn't mesh.

Were able to get me in last minute to see my frogs. It's hard to find vets in DSM who see exotics, especially same day. Was able to get antibiotics and start treatment right away. Extremely helpful and friendly.

Our pup got super sick out of the middle of no where. We took her into Family Pet Veterinary Center and they were super friendly and explained to us what was going on with her so that we would understand it. Gave us all of our options. They made sure we were completely comfortable with the diagnosis and followed up afterwards. I would recommend them to anyone that is looking for a great vet service and super friendly helpful staff.

Best vet around! We are so happy we changed to Family Pet Vet. I am so happy with their care. They are great to the whole family. They let my four year old listen to his dogs heartbeat. I could not ask for a nicer and caring place to take my dogs! I forgot add that they also sent me a homemade thank you card (though it looks very professional) and it is so cute and thoughtful.

I took my two dogs, Ziggy & Nala to Family Pet Vet for years. My needs were not just normal annual exams (although I’m sure they are great with that!) - Ziggy would go in regularly for acupuncture, Nala had mobility issues later in life and a history of aggression with other vets. Dr. Ryan and the caring vet techs (especially Ben) have gone above and beyond to ensure the most loving, thorough and effective care for my pets. Dr. Ryan would regularly take extra time to call me to check in or answer my never-ending questions. They eventually helped me through the heartbreaking end of life process for both dogs. I cannot imagine a better team to care for my beloved pets - and I see them all interact with other clients/pets the same way. Everyone there is passionately committed to the wellbeing of the animals and the families they serve. When I am ready to adopt a new pet, without question, Family Pet Vet will be part of my new dog’s life every step of the way.

Dr. Jen and her staff are awesome! I recommend them highly! I took my cat in because she had a extremely bad case of Diarrhea, while I was there they notice the lumps on her breasts. I had taken my cat to many vets prior to Dr. Jen and no one mentioned or even commented on the lumps. She said that Miss Kitty needed surgery asap. We are a couple with not a lot of money for the surgery. Dr. Jen worked with us(where other vets would not) she quoted a price, but when she got done with the surgery, it was more intense then she thought so again, she worked with us. She ended up having to remove all her breast and she also took a sample of her colon to be tested. Unfortunately we got awful news. She had cancer. Dr. Jen would call when she was off of work and fill me in on the details. When it was time for Kitty surgery I told her that I had lost a cat in surgery, and I asked if I could stay and she said of course. Trudy kept me posted on Miss Kitty condition the whole time. Believe me if you have a pet you need to take them to Dr. Jen and her staff. Brianna and Lyndsey was so helpful and kind as well, I would call all the time and ask questions about Miss Kitty's condition and they would explain things to me to help me out, and calm me down. They truly love animals at the pet center! I just can't say enough how much I think so highly of them. Personally I could keep going on how I think, but I only have so much room. Please just take your pet's to them, and you will not be disappointed at all!! Thanks again, Jim and Cheryl Crawford

I adopted a heartworm positive dog from Furry Friends and underwent their treatments to get her better. Shortly after, she developed a horrible cough that refused to go away. The doctors here helped me piece together the missing, yet vital parts of her heartworm treatment, such as steroids and did x-rays to see the extent of the damage. I'm grateful for the best care I've received here

Nice staff. Very quick at attending to the animals. However, I only give 4 stars because I had asked for an estimate on something and didn't receive it until 2 days later, after calling them both days.. also, when my pet when being diagnosed they ended up coming at every angle with what "should" be done, when really it just seemed they wanted my money.Example: my cat has an ear infection. They wanted to do a lab on his ears for extra cost, even though the ear drops would suffice.

Dr Jen is amazing. She is always willing to see my rabbit, Cooper. She spends as much time with me as I need her to, always answering all my questions (no matter how ridiculous they might be) and making sure I fully understand what is going on with Cooper. The staff are all so nice and remember me and Cooper when we come in. I always feel like I am leaving Cooper in good hands when I take him to Family Pet Vet Ctr. Took my 3 year old male cat there because my vet at Value Vet wouldn't listen to me when I said he was having respiratory issues. The older male vet there wouldn't listen either when I explained my cat was having breathing issues. He blew me off and stated it was GI issues. By time he was probably diagnosed by the Vet Hospital it was to late. He was diagnosed with Asthma that turned to severe Bronchitis and his airway was closing down. It was to late to reverse it and I had to let him go. So very agree with both those clinics.

This vet's negligence cost me a trip to the emergency vet to fix what he messed up. The ladies at the front desk were great but the tech was terrible. He wouldn't listen to me about my shepherd mix or her history. Tried to tell me I had never properly vaccinated her when I had records from my vet in KC. Then the vet, Dr Tim, was the same way. I was very clear that my dog had a history of GI tract issues and that she had been on prescription food for it for years now. He prescribed her an allergy medicine for some itching she had been experiencing but never mentioned any side effects it might have. Less than two days later I had to rush her to the emergency vet for severe diarrhea and vomiting only to find out that a side effect of the medication he prescribed her is upsetting a GI tract and shouldn't be given to dogs who have a history of a sensitive GI tract. The next day I called this office to make a complaint to whoever owned the practice and received a phone call back from Dr Tim. All he had to say for himself was that it seemed like he "definitely dropped the ball communicating the side effects with me" and that he was sorry. I will never take my dog back to this place. I recommend anyone who does to make sure they specifically ask for any and all side effects of any medication prescribed to their animal because clearly that is not important information to these people to communicate up front.

My little ladies receive excellent care from Dr. Jen and her associates. They have benefitted from well-pet exams, grooming and dentistry in the past two years. Family Pet offers one stop shopping for us from special diets through medication and health maintenance needs. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and Dr. Jen goes above and beyond to answer my questions about procedures, vaccinations and health issues. Highly recommended!

My dog, Wilson, gets excited when I say it is time to go to the vet! They are always friendly and caring when I go there. The prices are very reasonable and their service is professional. I never have to worry if I need to go out of town and find somewhere to board him. They take regular walks and lots of petting! I highly recommend this clinic for veterinary care and boarding.
