I have two African Dwarf frogs that are in a gallon sphere tank at my office and they needed a new plant as the one they had broke off. I had a lot of trouble finding stores in the Iowa City area that sells fresh aquatic plants, at least that is until I found Fish Barn! The owners are amazing and so knowledgeable. I ended up purchasing a couple plants and sand while I was there. I will definitely be a return customer. Thank you so much for all of your help!

This is the cleanest fish store I have ever been to. The tanks are so clear and you don’t see multiple dead fish just floating around in the tanks like at other places. I got a group of cichlids from him and they all did and are still doing amazing! The fish selection is also amazing! I love this place and will not purchase from anyone else. Will definitely recommend him to others!

Very nice selection of fish the owners were more than happy to assist us and help answer any questions we had they also made a point to tell us they can look for the kinds of fish we were looking for and let us know when they get them in!

The best aquatic store in the Iowa City area hands down.I’ve been keeping aquariums for close to ten years now and am blown away by the quality of their stock. Although neon tetras are easy to find, good genetics are not. I have had 0 problems with NTD from The Fish Barn. I purchased Beckford’s Pencilfish and a variety of corydoras from them a little over a year ago and they have done brilliantly in my tank. Although I do not keep shrimp, my colleague has been extremely pleased with his RCS purchased here.The owners are wonderful, and if you are lucky, you’ll be greeted by some extremely cute French bulldogs.I cannot recommend this store enough. This is an example of what all LFS should strive to be. Easy 5 stars.

I've never had fish before, and Cody was incredibly helpful walking me through everything from choosing a tank and fish to feeding and cleaning the tank. Very helpful, very worth the short drive out from Iowa City.And I seriously had no idea how much I would enjoy owning fish. The fish pictured is our Betta, Aurora, in her favorite spot to chill.

Negotiated with my wife fairly. Great store. The only one we will visit even if it is a bit out of the way. Great prices, friendly owners, great selections, etc. puts Petco, PetSmart, and petland to shame.

This place is great. Got a starting fish kit for my daughter's Birthday. It's just a little Mom and Pop's fish store but the owners are super friendly and very knowledgable. Their prices are competitive enough to Amazon and big chain stores but you feel not guilty shopping here helping a working family out. I support small business so this place is awesome and worth the short drive. Their dog's are awesome too! We will be back and I highly recommend the Fish Barn to everybody.

Easily the best fish store in the Iowa City area. Unfortunately, it's a bit out of the way but it's also going to be the only fish store my wife and I go to from now on. Huge variety of both docile and more "aggressive" fish, no poor betas in pint-sized containers (they were in actual tanks!), and really clean tanks. There were also some fish and other fish-esque creatures I've never seen before and didn't even know existed, especially in freshwater. There's also a nice variety of freshwater plants, food, treatments, etc.Don't be turned off that this isn't downtown and that it's down a driveway.

Very friendly and informative about all their fish. Honest is also very decently priced. Most importantly, tho supper clean and taken care. They have the best private store in the area. The only thing that may turn someone away is her dogs, but all friendly and adorable.

If you have not been here you need to check. Very clean tanks and healthy fish! They are very patient and knowledgeable . Wonderful prices. Tricky to find with google maps and the road construction, but you will be happy you made the trip!!

Today was my first time coming in and I loved the selection of fish that they had. It was honestly hard to decide what to spend my money on but got an upside down catfish and an Odessa barb that are already making themselves at home in their new tanks. The owners were some of the nicest people I've met in the business. I'll definitely be back once I've upgraded to a 125 gallon tank. No doubts about that.

The Fish Barn is by far my favorite aquatic and fish store. The care for the fish is evident. The selection is fantastic. We always go in with lots of questions and they’ve all been received with patience, and better yet, curiosity about our goals. Can’t recommend Fish Barn highly enough!

Been all over Cedar Rapids and Coralville and seen lots of good fish; but, hadn't found what I was looking for. Fish Barn was worth the drive! Cody helped me find exactly what I was looking for and I am thrilled with how the new Rams and Turkana Jewels are getting along and how great they look! I agree with all the comments about how well-kept the tanks are and how reasonable the prices are! Really appreciated how easy it was to get around in the store...made spending the time looking in every single tank a pleasure!

I have been to most of the freshwater aquarium shops around the Iowa-Illinois area and this is the best. I have never seen a sick fish at Fish Barn. They have prices that are lower than even Petco with the quality of a dedicated fish store. I cannot emphasize enough how good the prices are. I have bought great looking healthy long-finned cherry barbs here for 1.50$ when most stores charge 5-6$. I have seen large great looking fancy goldfish and medium sized koi being sold for less than half of what the average store would ask. You get a 48 hour guaruntee which they honor generously. The husband and wife owners are honorable friendly people who are great to do business with.They always have a good selection on hand which includes the staples of the hobby and some neat niche species. If they don't have what you want on hand they can almost certainly order it for you and get it it for a price that is competitive with online wholesalers (and much better than any other brick and mortar store).10/10

I cannot say enough good things about The Fish Barn! They started carrying feeder guppies upon request so we could have a clean, reliable source of food to feed our snake! They also are knowledgeable and helped trouble shoot our problems with our fish tank!

Traveled to this place 3x and I can’t stop going back (travel a hour away for this place). Friendly people and they know there stuff. Upgraded everytime I went and it’s freaking awesome now. Tanks are well “tanking” care of. Exotics in there and different varieties.
