As a kid, I frequently visited Unionville, the hometown of my mother. Recently, I returned to attend the funeral of my aunt. After the service at a local cemetery, most of the attendees went to share a meal in celebration of my aunt's life. I was plesenty surprised to hear of the Muddy Dog. We found the rustic atomophere to be very comfortable. The food was delicious and the staff were very helpful and friendly as you would expect in small town Iowa. Many of the staff found it interesting to hear about my aunt who had been a resident of the area for nearly 100 years. Thank you to the staff for giving our large family presence such a warm and comfortable reception.

I used to think this was a great place to eat (and work) until recent discoveries. The owners have 3 huge labs (dogs) that they frequently bring INSIDE the restaurant & keep them in the office (while guests are there) or sometimes keep them in the kitchen & block the exit so they are just walking around the kitchen, getting dog fur & slobber & mud everywhere. One time it was done after the floor was mopped & the kitchen was just cleaned…then the kitchen was not cleaned again after they removed the 3 large dogs. It’s disgusting & definitely against health codes for restaurants. So yeah, if you enjoy dining where dirty animals have been roaming around…this is the place for you!! Also they don’t treat employees fairly & something is ALWAYS going wrong….Every. Single. night.Yes, I am a former employee…that’s how I know about the dogs. Was afraid to say something while working there because didn’t want to get in trouble. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️Vegetarian options: None reallyWheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible at all, which is a problem at times. My mom came with a walker & could hardly come in front door. Main Walkway was also so narrow, there wasn’t enough room for her to walk down without difficulty.

Muddy Dog is a wonderful addition to Unionville. Located in the heart of the Unionville Restaurant District (in fact, comprising the entire Unionville Restaurant District), it is a far better dining option than one would ever expect to find in such a tiny town. The smash burgers are extremely good, and the pizzas are made with tasty, fresh ingredients. There is also a small grocery store. The staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere is super informal.

Parking: Some parking is across the street in another part of their lot but both are accessible to the facility.Wheelchair accessibility: Ground is somewhat rough and not paved just gravel but mostly level and accessible.
