They moved fast to get our adoption completed. I sent my application, was approved, met our lovely new cat, and brought her home all in the same day! They gave us advice for helping her adjust to the new home, and let us know we can always call if we needed any further help. I've worked with other rescues before and can say this is a great group doing great work to help animals find their forever homes successfully. Thank you for helping us complete our family!

We had the absolute best experience adopting here. They were quick to respond and help us through the adoption process. We drove 3 hours from Illinois to adopt our little girl and we both agree it was the best trip and decision we ever took. You can really tell that they care about their animals and treat them so well. I wish I could have adopted everyone!They sent us home with a leash, a collar, harnesses, dog food, treats, shampoo, a toy, and tear stain remover! Which is alot to give someone when they are dependent on donations. Our dog was also dewormed, microchipped, had her vaccines, and rabies shot. She was also freshly groomed!It's so very clear they want to find the best home for their animals. We highly recommend adopting here. And! Be sure to say hello to multiple animals. We ended up going home with a different dog that we had originally thought would be the best fit for us. There are so many animals here that are beautiful, loveable, and deserving of a forever home.

This is a wonderful organization, with a fantastic team that runs it! Haylee was absolutely wonderful and helped make our adoption experience easy and smooth. Haylee has the dogs’ well-being as her top priority. She made us think of all the important factors when we were choosing our dog. We ended up with this lovely new addition to our family. We recently worked with Friends of the Animals to adopt a dog, Astrid (now known as Mango) and the process couldn't have been any smoother and the people couldn't have been more kind. Everyone at FOA cares deeply about animals in need and they assure they are going to a good home.Mango is such a wonderful dog and we couldn't imagine life without her :)Their adoption fee is reasonable and it included 2 free training sessions, a new harness and collar, treats and a bag of their current food, up to date on shots and she was already spade.We've always gone through a rescue/shelter and Friends of the Animals is a wonderful place to adopt from. Please consider rescuing from them as they are a wonderful organization!

I had an amazing adoption experience at this facility! This shelter may not have as many resources as other shelters, but they certainly make up for it with their intentionality! The wonderful shelter manager was telling me that every single dog is working on learning several commands, and the cats are handled often and extremely well-socialized, being housed together in a large enclosure proximate to the dogs. I have to assume that this hard work is rewarded with a higher than average successful placement rate!By the sounds of it, our new kitten was rescued from an environment that would have left him reclusive, if he lived at all. He is still on the shy side being in a brand new environment, but because of Friends of the Animals, he is still an incredibly sweet, friendly little guy who can’t resist a pat and let’s me hold him like a baby and rub his tummy! He’s already a wonderful companion to a very happy (thrilled? ecstatic?) little boy. I’m so glad I found this shelter—thank you guys!!!

Friends of the Animals is a wonderful place that is doing good work (and work that is not easy!)We have adopted two dogs from FOA. Staff members are honest, helpful and patient when answering questions. They are helping so many dogs and cats! Please consider them if you are thinking of adopting.

A great shelter! The staff was so helpful and spent time with us introducing a wonderful dog--Sadie--to our Australian Cattle dog as we were considering bringing a second pet into our home. They were transparent about her history and needs to help us make a decision. While it didn't work out for us (we would have LOVED to being her home with us, but our dog is super picky!), Friends of the Animals is a fantastic place to find a pet.

Staff at Friends of Animals sincerely care about the long term wellbeing of their animals AND the people adopting. II also observed caretakers doing a good job with clean environment for the animals and caring tone and communication with the animal residents. We would highly recommend these folks for your adoption needs.

We adopted our sweet puppy, Brecken, about 3 weeks ago. As someone who has volunteered at various shelters, I really admire their application process. It’s obvious that they want their pets to go to good homes. We drove an hour, and we were honestly worried about coming back empty handed. However, they were transparent with us over the phone that it was a first-come, first-serve process, and they don’t “hold” their pets, so we understood. We came in looking at several puppies, and they gave us honest feedback on all of them, so we could find the best fit for our lifestyle.Brecken is about 4-months old and he’s wonderful. When around new people and dogs, he quietly sits and observes. The vet also commented on how remarkably calm he is in new situations as a puppy. His calmness is greatly attributed to how well they socialized him as a puppy, and we are so grateful.The adoption fee is fairly similar to adoption fees in shelters across Iowa. They come with age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and spayed/neutered. We also were given food, shampoo/conditioner, and a very nice leash/collar and harness. Whenever I’ve had questions, I call and they help in anyway possible. My husband and I highly recommend Friends of the Animals to everyone we know. We are really grateful for the great work they do because it allowed us to expand our family with the most wonderful puppy.

Went through the entire process of adopting a dog. Then the dog was given away and we weren't even given a call to let us know. Fortunately before driving an hour we called. Then in a very calm but mildly unfriendly manner they insisted upon how this "first come first serve nature" had been explained which it had NOT. My wife called first and they were rude to her. I called back later and did refer to the handling of the situation as ridiculous. It WAS clearly explained however that after the "meet and greet" you would take the dog home if there weren't any serious problems. Not great communication.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Plenty of cats ready for a place to call home. Seen 2 dogs that were just removed from a residence and they were very friendly. Heard a few more barking but didnt see them. The adoption process was quick and easy. They dont take payment by card, so take cash and a pet crate is required to take animal home. I had to run to the ATM down the road and they let my 2 yr old stay and play with the cats. 5min of being child free felt good. HA.

I have never seen with any organization ever that would rather let animals die than give them good homes until now.Shady underhanded dealings when it comes to money, secrecy of what animals are in the shelter, lack of advertising of what’s available for adoption.Only advertising “special breeds”The Recently posted kittens available for adoption are either dead or super unhealthy. They were starved into malnutrition and dehydration.I have VET confirmation.This was a simple thing that could have been prevented with proper care and and vetting. Only vet records on these animals were gotten by me.Kara from the shelter told me they were seen by the West Branch vet, two simple phone calls confirmed that was a blatant lie, previous owner turned in 16 cats with no surrender fee, also said he had never taken any of them to a vet or told the shelter he had when I spoke to him.Mind you this was THREE separate litters of kittens, two from one home one from somewhere else totaling from 16-to 12 or 14 kittens (shelter can’t decide pending on who you speak to) down to 7 with zero explanation from the shelter!Everyone there just blames each other like they didn’t all walk by the 5, 6 then 7 week old kittens slowly losing weight, losing energy and dying! Everyone who was employed while theses kittens got sick and died is responsible! Weather it was due to lack of intelligence or just cruel hearted not caring.These kittens absolutely deserved better! Shame on you Friends of the animals!

I was happy to move to Tipton be largely because of the care that they give to animals. I did rescues for many years, but I am getting older and it is wonderful to be ale to take a cat there and know that they will keep it and find a home for it or give it a home there.I took one in that showed up here last week. She seemed to know this property. I was calling her Puddins. They named her Elvira. She is intelligent and sweet. I hope that someone opens their heart and their home to her soon!
