Walked in the door and was greeted like family! Even other patrons said hi - friendly! Great food! Love the cheesy potatoe soup and variety on the salad bar. They have large seating areas - some in the bar area, some in a dinning area and some in a coffee shop area. Quiet atmosphere all around. Margaret was spectacular waitress! Great smile and pleasant. Right on top of it all. Wonderful experience!! Will love to go back!!

I come here every week for the famous French Dip sandwich with sliced Prime Rib! They always cook it according to my liking and the flavor is just amazing! I’ve never had a French Dip sandwich like this anywhere! Little to NO fat on the meat, savory flavor, and I love to add mushrooms, onions, and Swiss cheese to mine! ❤️ some people even add bacon! There’s so many polite waitresses and bartenders here! I love the atmosphere! The homemade soup is another favorite part of mine!

We had a great meal at a fair price today. For lunch, the kids ate breakfast. My wife had soup and salad bar. I had Deb's burger. I'd recommend it any time you are in town or close.

We went here for supper Saturday night, what a disappointment. Took a long time for anyone to acknowledge us or bring us menus. A young boy came over gave us menus and asked for our drink order, when one of us tried to order a beer he was told he’d have to go up to the bar to order it, so he just got a soda instead. After about 20 minutes a waitress came over to take our order. I ordered the small cut of prime rib medium rare with a baked potato, my husband ordered a rare sirloin, and the other orders at our table were chicken fried steak and a bacon cheese burger with sweet potato fries. Our orders included a trip to what they call the “Colossal” salad bar, more like a “Colossal” mess! It contained some pasta salads, potato salad, and pea salads, nothing looked fresh. The pasta in the pasta salad was undercooked and crunchy. The soup was near empty and the cubed pieces of beef tasted old and were not edible. As we were sitting there someone one started stocking the containers at the salad bar, instead of refreshing the containers they were pouring new product right over the old, gross. When our food came out the first thing I noticed was my old brownish cold foil wrapped potato, it looked and tasted like it had been cooked that morning. I looked at my prime rib and it was brown, not pink like a medium rare should be. I asked for them to take it back as I ordered it medium rare, not well done. The other things that were not okay, the hamburger patty was very thin and had no flavor, the sweet potato fries were over cooked shriveled up pieces of nothing. The gravy on the chicken fried steak looked like mayo, straight up from a can and barely heated. My husbands sirloin was not rare, but cooked medium. When they brought my prime rib out it was the same piece and the waitress asked me if I wanted it cooked more…. What? I sent it back because it was to done and you cooked it more! At this point, I had lost all expectations of having a good meal and took it. I asked for creamy horseradish and they brought out raw. It was so bad, it was funny. When I bit into the prime rib it tasted as though it had been microwaved and had a weird beer, yeast flavor. Just, no! I asked for a doggy bag, because literally that’s who I was taking it home to. The last thing that made this night one to remember, was the waitress asked if we would be paying with cash or card, we thought that was kind of weird. We said card, and without any explanation, she brought us our bill and it had a credit card surcharge of 4.00, so we told her we’d pay cash since they charge a fee for us to use our card. The bill was 100.00 for 4 people with no bar or appetizers. The whole experience was off, my expectations were low, since I had been warned that the food and service were not the same as it had been before changing ownership. We will never be back. This is not a good representation of NW Iowa cooking and service. It’s just bad, do yourself a favor and find a place that prides themselves on good service and good food. Just keep driving.

Just a amazing place to eat. The fried chicken was the best I have ever had! They have a huge buffet of meats! Fried chicken, pheasant, ribs, pork, and a large fresh salad bar. Mashed potatoes, gravy - all you can eat. Super great tasting food. Owner is a local and amazing guy. Service was amazing also. We will be back! So glad we found Jays!

We split the 12 Oz. Ribeye for 29.00. It was ordered as medium rare and came to our table as medium. The steak was very oily, like it was cooked with oil and there was also a sour taste to the meat unlike any I've had before. We had the hasbrowns with onions as a side and they were severely under-done, the onions were raw and the hashbrowns were lukewarm. We let the young waitress know of our quality concerns, but they weren't addressed and moreless diamissed. My opinion is there are far better steaks offered in the surrounding area, so we probably will not the dice on Jay's Steakhouse.

Fries and chicken that had been in the fryer were not good. They came out, and you could taste the old gross oil. Pasta on the salad bar was not fully cooked, and the dressing it was in was all on the bottom. Salad was browned on the salad bar. Prime rib was done the way I like yet no flavor or seasoning. I asked for steak sauce to help. I asked for a Disaronno and Squirt, and I was told that they only had cheap well. Mashed potatoes had hard chunks in it. Green beans were awful. They were dark and wrinkled up. To be honest, the food was just not good. The waitress was very nice but the quality coming out of the kitchen could use a lot of work.

The food was great! The waitress was amazing, the only bad thing was an employee was walking around talking about politics and making jokes about politics. Other then that, great experience.

Just stopped by and picked up some broasted chicken at Jay's. Best Ever, have been going there for years. New owner was taught well and continues to serve excellent food and has excellent service.

Took my family there for Sunday buffet. We are from out of town but, our kids live in Sanborn. I was disappointed the meat was luke warm. Along with the baked beans and corn. Didn't try the salad bar as the salads look as if they sat there awhile. The stuffing was very good. The place needs updated badly. The man's bathroom my husband said smelled like urine. We drove to the gas station to use the facilities.

This was my first time there. Wonderful food. My steak was cooked to perfection. One member of our party had a problem with her steak but the waitress, Jennifer, got it fixed. The service was great. I would recommend Jay's for a good meal. I will definitely go back.

We frequent at least once a week for breakfast/brunch. Food is perfect, service is top notch and atmosphere is casual, friendly and clean.Parking: It's a popular restaurant and parking spaces limited and narrow. Either way you park you back onto the highway. But I understand the restaurant has been there for decades and vehicles were much smaller. This definitely won't stop me from visiting!

I'll start by saying ORDER THE STEAK TIPS! I've never been disappointed with the steak tips. They cook them with some sort of delicious sauce and they are truly amazing. However, tonight I tried something new there- hand battered Alaskan pollock, and was a little disappointed. There didn't seem to be much flavor to it except dirty fryer oil. They've also gotten rid of the terry dean special on Wednesday nights which is why I went there in the first place. If I were to be 100% honest- I keep giving Jay's another try but the quality of food has declined immensely over the past few years. Go for the steak tips!!!

Sitting here for over an hour and still haven't gotten our food. Thank goodness for the one trip to the salad bar. Unbelievable. Decided to leave. Asked waitress if we could just be charged for salad. Got charged $23. I had a small cup of soup and scoop of macaroni salad. Didn't want to fill up before our meal arrived. I'll definitely think twice about going there again. Maybe we should have called in our order ahead of time. Thoroughly disappointed and irritated.

Hopefully someday this review and number of stars will increase however after going to this restaurant since I was a kid and many many times into our adulthood our experience tonight have changed our view for probably some time. Tonight we treated ourself to a really nice meal out - steaks and drinks. My husband had to send his entire meal back - a filet mignon. It was not medium rare hot pink center. It was black and dark colored and smelled. Our service was very sub par as waitress just stood there. Absolutely no social distancing measures put into place by our governor. No offer to make the meal right was still charged. The manager/owner just came over to drill is on how much was eaten and defend the meat comes in fresh and not frozen and cut 2 days ago -- well if it wasn't properly handled and refrigerated property doesn't matter if you cut it 4 hours ago. Maybe apologize and ask questions. Definitely disappointed.

Since my parents have been in Prairie View since 2011, my brother and I eat here almost every time we come up and visit them. That is at least once and sometimes twice a week. Scrumptious food and fabulous wait staff and cooks.

I went to Jay's for breakfast this morning. The server was attentive and brought me a menu right away. The food was decent - typical diner breakfast that you'd expect. While there weren't any highlights from the meal, it certainly wasn't a bad experience by any means.

Very humble and "homelike" setting. Prices are very good, food is okay...some things perhaps a but heavy on salt; but mostly decent. Down sides are the relatively run down environment and location in a small town.

Variety for a small town! Waitress was nice. Plenty of TV's and seating. I went with Terry's special ( 2 patties with slice of ham) on the burger list with beer battered fries(recommended). I enjoyed!

Food was fresh and delicious. Our server was inattentive and had to be told when we were ready to order, when ready for bill, and ready to pay by head server. Good thing we didn't need beverage refills! I would go again hoping to get different server.

3 stars for friendliness; ask them later for what's on for desserts as we don't have the menu and one the waitress said I don't know and walked away. TOTAL EMBARASSMENT FOR ME IN FRONT OF MY CHILDREN. Will rather go to another town to eat out.
