Great rescue that goes out of their way to help dogs in need! Their willingness to go above and beyond for dogs that have medical needs, despite the cost ,speaks volumes. We rescued our dog, Winston (FKA Taco), from them last summer and from the moment we met him, we could tell that this is a rescue that really cares for their animals and makes decisions based off what’s best for each pet and not just what’s convenient. The adoption process is thorough but for good reason.

If wanting to adopt absolutely go for it! Empty the place!I was blocked from their Facebook page after the following review:If wanting to volunteer:DO NOT VOLUNTEER HERE. I made that mistake volunteering for months. Take your time somewhere you’re actually moderately appreciated and treated somewhat well. Just because you’re a volunteer doesn’t mean the staff can treat you like crap as it seems to here.Hopefully others had a different experience but here’s my insight. Cassandra Mescher (Volunteer Coordinator) will tell you to ask questions then treat you poorly for asking questions. She seemed to have a better than you attitude because she actually work at the rescue unlike you. I had previously talked with her about the ARL letting people take dogs out for a day and she told me I could take one out sometime after they get used to me. Weeks later I asked to treat sweet Navy to a walk at Saylorville or even just some time at the dog park that is ON the property at Heinz. Just a little free time for her away from her kennel. Her and I bonded very well and I spent so much time with her. While making dinner rounds I would take a few minutes sitting in her kennel with her for a bit petting and spoiling her. She’s such an incredible girl! Simply asking Cassandra questions, just questions, about it and I’m told, “if you can’t follow the rules this isn’t the place for you.” Questions are against the rules apparently. How exactly are we suppose to learn the rules then Cassandra? With that I was done with Heinz and have taken my time elsewhere. It’s sad someone new can foster and are given a dog to take home but a volunteer who has several dogs of their own, over a decade experience with dogs, some experience working with and transporting from a rescue in Okinawa, Japan where strays are euthanized in just 7 days max, and numerous hours spent volunteering and bonding with the dogs on site but can’t be trusted to take a single dog to the onsite dog park for 10 minutes.Don’t even bother attempting to contact Amy Heinz as she seems to have the same attitude as Cassandra except, like children do, Amy will completely ignore you when you attempt to talk. Their actions made it very clear how little volunteers seem to mean although Heinz would absolutely crumble without them.On a side note I do hope Howard has gotten better. He’s had a limp for well over a year and hadn’t improved. I brought it up several times as did other volunteers before me and nothing ever changed…concerning.

Dedicated animal rescue program. Uses many volunteers for rescue and fostering. Active with transporting animals to no-kill resources. Look online, come visit, help out, donate supplies or $,and always consider adopting a rescued animal. See my rescue, Coco; son's, Charlie; birthday donation; and a couple dogs just transported.

No stars. After losing my border collie of 13 years I tried to adopt a new best friend. I’m a former vet tech and a current pet sitter and dog walker. They denied me right away because I didn’t have a fence. Which I never needed in the previous 13 years with an even bigger dog than the one I wanted to adopt, let alone I could build a fence. But they didn’t even attempt to talk with me, just basically told me to F off. The many other negative reviews were completely right. This is absolutely not how you get dogs a wonderful forever home.

Favoritism or profiling, I put an application in for Lizzy, she had a meet and greet and got adopted.by someone else. I get that, but then another dog showed up at my home the next day, someone rang my doorbell and asked if it was my dog. I got him to come in and he crashed for a while. I sent a text and email announcing that now I have a dog. I took him out to see if he needed to do his thing. Then a team from AHeinz which was in the area for another matter took him away, I didn’t object because he needed to be put on the lost and found page and get checked for a microchip. I went to lobby to see if I could get him, but was informed he just got adopted. They took him on Friday They need to review their policies on adoption, specifically the 7 day

I was a foster to adopt my German Shepherd in 2015She was treated for heartworm and spayed, AHeinz57 saved her life from a kill shelter in Wisconsin. She is about eight years old now and the light of my life.A great organization, thank you

My experience with AHeinz57 has been nothing short of perfect! Amy cares so much about her animals that I feel it is important that I treat my own animals very well. I respect and appreciate her ability to be true to her passion as well as herself and who she is. She takes in some of the most challenging animals and works so hard to make them adoptable as well as some of the best family dogs. We need more shelters like this in the community. Thank you Amy and Staff for all you do it doesn’t go unnoticed. 💖

Was looking to adopt from this facility but expensive adoption fees and the over-the-top and invasive adoption form lead me to look closer at this adoption facility. Sure enough, some of the reviews speak for themselves. No you don't get to "inspect" my home or have first-hand knowledge of my previous pets, current employer & names & contact information of my family. Get real. This isn't North Korea and these aren't children you're adopting.

ZERO stars. Dismayed and heart broken when Policy is put above what is right. When our 18 yr old son’s Blue Heeler partner of 16 years past away, we went looking to fill this deep void, searching for his next buddy. He found that deeply in the puppy B-Bop at the AHeinz57 rescue. Upon filling out the required form that my son completed, Dakota from AHeinz57 would not allow a hold on the puppy because our outdoor livestock guard dog wouldn’t have his vaccinations until the following week. This young man had to endure another unnecessary heart break, losing this special puppy based on policy rather than heart. Our son works at a vet office, volunteers at a nonprofit for autistic and special needs families, and has trained rescued horses from the DesMoines ARL. He even comes highly recommend by 2 vets. His little sister that lives with autism still continues to ask when the black and white puppy is coming home. It is impossible to explain never. 😔

Adopted my precious girl, Mae, from here. I will say calling to get a response is not the fastest way. They were busy all the times I went up there (3x). Emailing is the best. I'm so thankful for them taking care of Mae, while she found us. ❤️

My husband and I went with my mom to look at dogs, as her and my dad recently lost one of theirs. I regret that I didn't get the name of the gal that helped us because she was awesome! She was very personable, friendly, and informative. She walked us through the shelter and introduced us to each dog. She knew the dogs and their needs very well, and you could tell she really loved each of them. Unfortunately, we didn't end up adopting at the time. But if you are looking to adopt, please be sure to check them out! They truly are an amazing rescue who go above and beyond for the animals in their care.

Really clean and very friendly staff. We dropped off donations and got to play with the kitties. My daughter loved it!

Denied adopting a male dog because my male cat who’s 12 isn’t neutered. This is why going to a breeder is a better choice. Less hoops to jump through and more willing to help.

MIXED FEELINGS:Downsides:Adopted a dog that I absolutely adore. I was told he was around 4. From day one I suspected he was older. When I took him to the vet for a full nose-to-tail check up and they confirmed that he was 8-10 years old. I have no problem with this other than the fact that I was overcharged $95. It is just disappointing and feels deceptive. How could people and vets who have way more experience w/ animals than I do not see that he was older? The one other things that has left a bad taste in my mouth is the social media posts that publicly shame people. Dogs that got away? Yes, so sad. Posting to shame people? Not cool - in any circumstance.Upsides:The parts of this shelter that I saw were emaculate compared to other shelter's ive seen. It seems like they take very good care of the dogs they have. I cant imagine how hard it is to care for so many dogs and make them feel loved too. AHeinz57 is doing great with this.

AHeinz57 Pet Rescue took very great care of my black lab during his neuter. They even worked with me on his pickup time, since I live 45 minutes away from their shelter. The shelter staff were so friendly and took such good care of my 5 month old black lab service dog. I can't say enough good things about them. The cost was so reasonable and very much worth the drive!!!

We are soon to foster and then adopt a beautiful dog that was rescued in Texas from the hurricane. This organization is top notch! They are definitely thorough in finding the right people and home for their pets. We are SO excited to bring a 4 legged friend back into our family!

No matter any of the animals previous history aHeinz makes them a success story. Even ones that are there long or have a harder path they are happy and have a person that is their person. Always success.

Do not recommend. I have adopted two dogs from AHeinz prior to wanting to get a third. The foster mom sabotaged our meet and greet and provided misinformation to the coordinator (just so you're aware, the foster gets the say in if you get to adopt the dog). The home visit lady told me on a phone visit, "I shouldn't be giving you my opinion, but I'm going to anyway..." And says that she thinks it's a mistake that we are getting another dog because we are just going to end up neglecting our older dog. And then lied about how we didn't want to move forward when I communicated to her that we could not do the home visit when she initially wanted to because I have two active military members in my household and they had drill. Her requirements were that all members of the home had to be present during the home visit during daylight hours and I work late hours as a nurse. Apparently that meant we didn't want to go forward with the adoption. We also inquired about another dog and they NEVER got back to us about them despite us bringing it up multiple times. The coordinator will apologize and give people a pass on their behavior because they're volunteers so they can't be held accountable.

Very nice and informational staff, prior to visiting, their website is very easy to use, goes into good detail on the animal that is available to adopt.

Handled possible adoption poorly. Made up reasons that were not true. All so the could control who the French bulldog pups would go to. Several would vouch for us. Felt Lied to during and after process.. Will not do business with them ever again and Will make sure others are aware. Could write more details but not necessary. FyI... 2 of 3 were taken by workers so they probably had someone in mind. Extremely disappointed.

The staff there is amazing. They were helpful and understanding to our situation and helped us find the perfect home for our pup when our living situation changed and we were no longer able to keep him. They go above and beyond for the animals and families they help.
