I absolutely NEVER write negative business reviews, but this place has definitely earned zero stars from our family. First visit I thought yes he’s a straight shooter and the prices are the lowest you can probably find. Our second visit however was awful. He is condescending and rude, not in a “straight shooter” way, but in a demeaning and unprofessional manner. We had to leave our dog for the day to be neutered and I had my husband come with me to pick up and he acted completely different. After my own experience and reading other reviews, I genuinely believe he only behaves in this way towards women. Go here at your own discretion but I would advise shopping around for a more professional veterinarian that has more care for animals and for humans/women.

We started going to this vet when our dogs annual shots and check up were reaching $400 and he has nothing wrong with him. He is perfectly healthy. So when we got our new puppy I tried this vet on a friends recommendation. She has brought all her pets here for years.I never leave reviews but I would like to address the several comments I have seen on here. If you do not like blunt to the point people this is not the place for you. That being said this is exactly what we want. If you need someone to worry about how you will feel to what they say then this is not the place for you. He is intelligent and straightforward and will say what’s in your pets best interest. Maybe it’s my exposer to healthcare. He is a dr that not only knows his stuff he has the life experience to go with it. He will not entertain the google vet graduate you may think you are. You can see compassion and passion for his job in his actions and demeanor towards your pet. My oldest dog is extremely timid and fearful. He has nipped at the other vet multiple times. I have absolutely no fear switching vets. It’s more than obvious he will meet my dog where he is and do what’s best for him. I look forward to coming here as long as he chooses to practice. For those that take offense to this review your not the ones I wrote it for. It’s for people like me who ran as fast as I could to him and would see this and say hey that’s my kind of person.

If you care about your animal do NOT come here. We had been bringing our teddy bear (shih-tzu/bichon) here for years because he is cheap. I so regret that. He was always extremely condescending and rude. We brought her in at 15 yrs 9 months to be euthanized. An already heart-breaking situation was made so much worse. He has no compassion or heart. He was not able to start her iv. She was screaming and so he made his assistant/wife come in and hold her down, all the while yelling at me to stay away from her face. She had only a few teeth, weighed 15 lbs and was not thrashing or a threat. You and your pet deserve more dignity and respect. I pray no one else has to experience what we went through.

He mumbles and then gets angry when you can't understand him. He was explaining something to me and I walked towards the door because I thought he motioned to it. I guess he didn't because then he started whining that I was leaving in the middle of the condescending lesson he was giving me. I stopped and said sorry and that i missheard him but he refused to continue. I drove quite a distance to get here and have him clean my dog's teeth but he wouldn't because they weren't bad enough? I could keep going, but I'm exhausted. His life must be pretty miserable for him to think he needs to treat people this way. I felt so bad for the receptionist.

I drive from Des Moines to see this vet. He is absolutely amazing. Straight shooter, very knowledgeable. I know his prices are fair. He charged me $100 less to tell me what another vet told me about my cat. Ultimately he helped cure my cat unknowingly by changing his diet ( because he was fat) and now my cat has a healthy tail that he gets to keep. The best in the business.

We heard very good things about this vet and looked forward to our visit. Soon after arriving we found out why it is less expensive than other local places. Very unprofessional vet, condescending, and rude. Not worth the drive out of the Des Moines area

I took my female dog here a year ago to be spayed. I was told they wouldn't do it because she was over weight. I wish I could post pictures because she definitely wasn't a fat dog. Today I was told my dog had to be put down because of uterine infection and I didn't have the $1700 for a surgery that may or may not work. I know I should have been more vigilant and taken my dog to a different vet for spay but I trusted this one unfortunately.

I've been taking my own pets there for years and family pets for decades before that. We live in Runnells and as long as he has open hours I will always make the trip to them. He is an amazing vet and he'll let you know how it is. I never expect a sugar coating but a very down to earth visit with them each time we go. We have two toddlers so I fully expect a lecture coming up on our fur babies weights but that's all on me as a pet owner. If I ever have issues with the dogs he always checks them over thoroughly even if I feel like I'm being a bit of a nut...all in all if you want a fluffy, upselling vet go somewhere else cause they will certainly tell you how it is and what steps need to be taken to fix it! Highly recommend.

I've taken multiple dogs and cats there for like 20 years. Doc is one of the most knowledgeable vets I've met. And his coworker is extremely organized and compassionate. They both are.There are times where it's beyond their control and they are there for you as the parent of that animal. They make sure the animal is comfortable and then focus on you.They don't do anything unnecessary and prices are extremely fair. Especially when compared to WDM and Ankeny vets I've also dealt with. This is there ONLY place I will take my pets until they retire.

Definitely a very straight forward type of person who says it how it is. But he so knowledgeable. We had be struggling on a few issues with puppy training and his suggestions have been paying off. He was in no hurry to rush us out the door and was willing to listen to all our questions and work though them with us. Plus a much better price than most of the vets you can find in Ankeny area.

I LOVE this vet! My boss recommended him to me last year, and I started taking my kitty in and he has been awesome! He's very nice, explains everything in full detail, and isn't trying to rush us out the door to get to his next patient. He really takes his time to make sure that I understand what is going on, and does a really great job keeping my kitty calm while doing the exams (I have a very nervous kitty!). He's also the only vet that has spoken with me about my kitty's weight and gave me easy suggestions for keeping him healthy. I took him for a post-op exam last December, they even called me to check on his healing a week later, and they're not even the ones who did the surgery! I only hope that they don't decide to retire while I still have my kitty, I want to take him to When Farm for as long as possible. Thank you guys! :-D

I've been taking generations of pets there for 20+ years. He's EXTREMELY knowledgeable and doesn't give you the constant upselling that most vets will. He doesn't recommend anything he wouldn't give to his own animals. To those reviewers that complain about his bedside manner: he has a farm vet background...don't expect a frilly treatment. If you're a bad/irresponsible owner you'll hear about it. If you want a white-glove, expensive treatment go somewhere else. As long as he's practicing, I'll trust my animals' lives in his hands.

My parents have been taking our family pets here for years and now I take my own. He is very straightforward and is pretty blunt which is exactly what I want in a doctor. He doesnt do any unnecessary tests either.

Rude, condescending and abrupt. He starts arguments, treats his paying customers like **** and is just plain mean. One dog had to be put down because he refuses to listen when he started having paralysis issues, and he caused a friend's dog to go deaf after digging too far in her ears.If you don't mind being criticized for everything from the dog food you use to whether to use flea prevention to how you train your pet, then this guy is the vet for you. For me? No thanks. I have had enough.

Don't go here! This guy was awful! Was trying to start an argument over everything and got really mad when we declined the heartworm test! Also got mad that we said thank you because he didnt give us great service since we didn't get the test done. Also my dog helped with each shot and he never did that before in all his life. He is 12 now. And he didn't really check them over either. Just stabbed them with the shot and That was it. That guy was a fruit loop! Will not return!

If you want to learn how larger, corporate vets just flat out lie to you to separate you from your money, go see Dr. Raiser. If Bluntness makes you uncomfortable, then by all means go waste your money in Des Moines.

So I took my dog there and he checked her urine (there had been blood) he said urine was fine she was having heat cycle..... I took her home to get over even though she had been fixed years ago and told him it didn't make sense....... couple weeks later my happy girl died :(He's not friendly in any way and considering outcome worst decision I think I made was to take her there
