They helped me with a couple of cats that were abandoned and are also going to help me with a litter of kittens from another abandoned momma. They saved the day for me. Thank you so much. The kittens should be available around June 2024

We adopted our heeler mix here in early November 2019, after months of searching shelters all over central Iowa for our perfect dog. He became an instant part of our family the moment we met him at ARL Marshalltown! The shelter was clean and bright, and the friendly staff made the application process smooth. He was a transfer from an out of state shelter, so they did their best over the next few days to get us all the background info they could find. Now our boy spends every day getting lots of love, going on car rides, cuddling his favorite stuffed animals, and playing with his best buddies at daycare and the dog park! I make sure to tell everyone he's a proud alumni of ARL Marshalltown!

We love the Animal Rescue League here in Marshalltown. We recently adopted the most beautiful cat ever and love her so very much. I appreciate the Animal Rescue League for many reasons, especially for the special care they give to animals who have lost their original families for one reason or the other. Our kitty, Sabra (pronounced say-bruh), is the perfect addition to our family.

This place seems more about the money than reuniting pets with their owners. My mom's dog got loose for the very first time because my brother forgot to close the fence back up after doing yard work. We looked all over for her that night and found out the next day that she was here at the ARL. It started off at $115 and my dear friend ended up paying $145 so we could get her back. The lady on the phone seemed annoyed that we were trying to come up with the money to get her out and didn't have the money right then and there. I was in touch with her over the next couple days. "Don't forget! It's an extra $15 a day that she's here!" What DISGUSTS me is that if we hadn't come up with the money, they would have actually adopted out my mom's REGISTERED EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL that she got after losing her husband of 39 years!! The lady taking the money at the desk wasn't friendly at all and didn't seem to really care that my mom's dog was a Registered ESA. You'd think she'd at least smile since she was getting her precious MONEY. We don't have to worry about my mom's dog leaving the fence because she's traumatized by it now, so I guess thanks for that. She now knows she never wants to return to your "rescue league."

I got my dog here and he is amazing. I put my cats down here and it is an affordable place when it is that time. I do think it is odd they rarely have small dogs available.

Our dog was stolen from us back in August of 2021. My daughter found her at the animal rescue league in Marshalltown. They really worked with us on getting her back. I really appreciate all the hard work they did for our dog since they received her back in October. Thank you so much. She is back home and loving it. She remembers all of us and attacked us with her Lovings. I really can not express how much she means to us, and hope much we appreciate your hard work. Thank you again.

We picked up a dog that was supposed to be a pekingese with paperwork that was supposed to have a medical update for being spade/neutered.Neither are true. It's not the correct breed, and the medical history is sketchy. We don't recommend this facility to adopt a pet.

We had adopted a dog at the end of January that ended up biting my husband. We brought him back because we have a young child and my husband was bit so badly he required stitches in two spots. They were very accommodating at the time allowing us to bring him back and told us we could use the money we used to adopt that dog towards another dog within 90 days. We didn't ever find a dog during that time that we thought would be a good fit for us. We now were looking to adopt a cat and called to see if there was a possibility of using the credit towards a cat, even though we knew it was past the 90 days. Answer was no because it says 90 days in the contract. We understand that there are contracts for a reason, but feel like this was circumstances that maybe it should have been an exception. First experience with them was nice. After my call today, I won't ever come back or recommend this place to anyone else. 2 stars only because first experience was positive.

We lost our beloved lab to cancer. A dear friend adopted two dogs from you and he spoke highly of your staff and how the animals were cared for. I decided to look after much grieving time passed. I spotted a sad looking Moose on the web site. We went to meet him and the staff. Two weeks later we took him home. Our family is full of love again. Thanks to the help of the staff we got Sampson, new name, healthy, he is gaining weight and loving his new family. He has kids to play with land to run and play. DOG HEAVEN.Update. Sampson has just been enrolled in classes to be a therapy dog. When finished he will be a certified therapy pet and we are so proud of him. He is so much a part of our life we have to share his love with others that need it. Thank you again for taking good care of him until we were lucky enough to adopt him.

I got my precious kitten latte from here. She was already spayed and vaccinated which saved hundreds of dollars. I got her after my fiance got a kitten... A dumpster kitten that was vicious and attacked our legs after he had been with us for three days so I knew she needed a playmate. My fiance spent over $200 for her cat's first vet appointment just to get the stuff to the Animal Rescue League did for free. Now we have to happy affectionate kittens one from a private individual and another one from the Animal Rescue League. I'll see if I have pictures lattes the white one. I knew she was a kitten to get because when I walked into the kitten enclosure she was one of the first ones to climb up on my leg and climb all over me like I was a tree. She was hungry for petting. Now the girls are eating salmon and ribeye and soft cat food and living the life. And unfortunately latte still attacks my leg

This facility is always clean and well lit with happy staff. They take great care of the animals and pens are always kept clean. The dogs are walked outside daily and the cats have exercise areas as well.

The animals & their living quarters were clean in appearance & the dogs were especially eager to meet people it seemed. Our disappointment was that the “cat room” is temporarily open only to staff. A virus is the concern.

My dog slipped her collar off got and got out of her kennel. Town man finds her, takes her to arl.Picked up the dog at 9 am next day. Got her back, so why the 1 star? Here are my issues:Got charged $40 for 15 hours, with absolutely no reasoning for the bill. (It's $13 a day at a kennel). So basically the extra $27 I paid is a tip?????Didn't ask for any form of ID or make sure we were the owners. (I had pictures and papers)So be aware if you lose your dog, anyone can come up and take it, because they put the dogs picture on their website. Also, listed the dog on the website as a basset hound. She is a beagle, and purebred at that. Beagles do not look like basset hounds.

Love the self service aspect of the cat rooms. We were really able to interact with the kitties. Service from the front counter person was subpar. Felt like I was inconveniencing her by wanting to make a purchase.

My son passed away and I had to move. I could not have any pets. My two lab mix dogs, BB and Brandy, had to go to ARL because I didn’t know anyone who could take them in together. I did not want to separate them as they were 10 years old and had never been apart. While they were at ARL the staff would update me on how they were doing and send me photos via text messaging. They always looked happy and cared for. Eventually both of my girls were adopted by a wonderful girl, Christine, who loves them as much as I do. She has a male pit bull named Cowboy who has become great friends with Brandy and tolerates BB. They make a wonderful family. I am forever grateful to the staff and volunteers at ARL and to Christine. GOD bless you all.

The staff was very helpful they introduced me to a bonded pair of small dogs. Sadly I came to the realization that I am not yet ready for another dog. Since mine has passed away.
